  1. And a few more ORLANDO, Fla. -- NFL owners agreed Tuesday to move the trade deadline back one week to the Tuesday after Week 9 and authorized a significant expansion to the league's replay assist program. Three penalty categories -- intentional grounding, roughing the passer and hits out of bounds -- were added to the list of plays replay assist can advise officials on
  2. More changes approved In addition to approving a rule change allowing for replay reviews to see if the game clock expired before a snap, the NFL announced on Tuesday that reviews of rulings that a quarterback was down or out of bounds are also going to be allowed. The Competition Committee proposed that rule change and it was approved by a vote of teams at the league meetings in Florida. 24 of 32 teams must approve a change for it to take effect. Reviews to see if a quarterback was down or out of bounds were already allowed, but they were not permitted to overturn an incorrect ruling the other way by officials. This will now change and the new rule says that a completed pass will stand if replay shows the officials were wrong, but no yardage gained after the catch will be added to the play. If the pass is incomplete, the down will still count but the offense will not lose any yardage that they would have under the original ruling
  3. NFL owners have approved a rule proposal to ban the swivel hip-drop tackle, the league announced Monday. The violation will result in a 15-yard penalty if flagged in games, but Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, strongly implied last week that it is likely to be enforced similarly to the "use of helmet" rule, which typically leads to warning letters and fines in the week after a game rather than flags during play https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39806754/nfl-owners-approve-ban-hip-drop-tackling-technique
  4. Paul wouldn't be bad, a bit of a reach at 30, if there is such a thing that late in the 1st.
  5. Ravens sign "offensive lineman" Josh Jones, per Espn. I say lineman because he has played every position except center. He struggled at both guards and right tackle, but found his calling at left tackle with the Cards. Then they sent him to the Texans where he got injured and struggled more. Could be a project, a resurrection project, or just a shot in the dark to see if he can settle in.
  6. Jeremiah's latest mock has the Ravens taking Cooper DeSean, corner/safety out of Iowa. 6'-1, 210 pounds. Good height and size, timed a bit slow, 4.5, but he does seem to play faster than he times. Very good instincts, which allows him to play free, faster. Excellent return man as well. He could seemingly back up corner and safety, and be a return guy, not a bad pick at 30 if they go that route.
  7. Maybe his momma is the one who needs encouragement to get her son to restructure a bit
  8. I'm surprised he didn't come back for a 1 year deal here, unless the team either wanted a 3 year deal or decided he was no longer needed.
  9. Baltimore made a $17.5 million payment to the MVP that’ll reduce Jackson’s 2024 base salary from a fully guaranteed $31.75 million to a fully guaranteed $14.25 million. Jackson’s 42.75 million base salary was guaranteed for injury. $22.5 million of the $42.75 million was fully guaranteed at signing. The remaining $20.25 is fully guaranteed. Jackson’s injury guaranteed $750,000 2025 workout bonus is also fully guaranteed. This was the deadline for the Ravens to exercise an option for linebacker Roquan Smith’s 2027 contract year worth $16 million. Baltimore paid $12 million to lower Smith’s fully guaranteed $18 million 2024 base salary to $6 million. Smith’s $15 million 2025 base salary was guaranteed. Ravens tight end Mark Andrews was paid a $4 million roster bonus due. Tomorrow- Cornerback Marlon Humphrey has a $6.5 million injury guarantee that vests to a full guarantee for skill, cap, or injury. https://ravenswire.usatoday.com/lists/baltimore-ravens-news-2024-nfl-offseason-key-dates-contract-options-salary-cap-lamar-jackson-mark-andrews-roquan-smith/
  10. Oh that's right, they have to do it by May 2nd, this year!
  11. Yeah, if they pick up his 5th year option, they are on the hook for $25 million, other wise it is either extend him or cut him. That is the tricky part.
  12. If not for the 5th year option, it would be a great, cheap move. But how do you judge if either is a long term solution or if Fields is the "heir apparent" after sitting for a year?
  13. It was a good gamble by the Steelers, Wilson only has a year or two left in good play. Fields, can learn under him, maybe, if he can learn how to read defenses, his biggest issue, then he should become a decent qb. The issue the Steelers have is that both qbs are on one year deals essentially, if Fields doesn't play, how do you work out a contract for him going forward?
  14. What a steal, a 6th round pick that could become a 4th. Real nice pick up
