Our Playoff push

Did the NFL look after Iny during their last 5 games or what?

3 out of the last 5 are at home, and they have Cleveland, Cinncy, Detroit, Jax and their last game is against Tenn who in all likely will be resting their starters. There's 4 W's right there guaranteed.

I guess we have to mimmick or better than, what New England does since they are also at 7-4.

Our last 5 Cinncy, Skids, Pittsburp, Dallas and Jax We need to go 4-1 thru this stretch we also play 3 out 5 at the ATM

New England 5 remaining are Pittsburg, Seattle, Oakland, Arizona and Buffalo, with New England playing 3 out of 5 on the road Seattle, Oakland and Buffalo. That Buffalo game could loom large for us, as they also have an outside shot at the wildcard.

Its time to start biting your nails, the road to Tampa starts NOW...

At this point, I just can't see the Ravens making the playoffs. I love it how every time the Ravens do better than expected, the fan base talks playoffs, only to be disappointed when they fall short or are one-and-done. Technically, I can pull up the old season prediction threads, and I challenge anyone to say that the playoffs were within reach for the Ravens this year.

For me, the bottom line is that I predicted a 4-12 season (or, at best, 5-11). These extra wins so far have been gravy and I'm really enjoying. It shows just how good this team (this offense in particular!) is going to be next year.

I don't see the Ravens making the playoffs. When they can beat two teams with winning records (and the Eagles do not count, as they were 5-5 when the Ravens faced them, and therefore not a winning team), then maybe I'll start expecting the Ravens to reach the playoffs. Until then, they need to beat the Bengals. And then Washington. And then the Steelers.

Coincidentally, I believe that any chance the Ravens have at the playoffs rest with their final game of the season. But again, they have to beat two winning teams first. Can they do it? So far, they haven't been able to. We'll soon find out.

I too predicted a 4-12 season and have been very pleased with the Ravens this year. Not just their record, but their overall play. The fact that Boller and Smith were unable to start the season could have set the team up for disaster but what it looks like it has done is to hurry Flacco's progression along. He had been good so far, think of how he could be in another year.

What are the odds of a 9-7 team making the playoffs in the AFC? I think the Ravens can easily be 9-7. If they and the Steelers play the same way they did their first match up then I think the Ravens win at home.

So, and I am surprising myself, I am cautiously optimistic about making the playoffs. I dont think they will go far, but even if they make it they can gain experience for young players and coaches alike.

I think I also predicted 5/6 wins, so the Ravens have exceeded my pre-season expectations.

Now, having watched this team in the regular season I don't think it's bad to raise expectations even more. I think nine wins is very possible, even ten.

If we make it to the postseason then the expectations grow even more. Unless we have to play the Colts.

You mention the playoff experiences as if it happens every year and we're dooming ourselves again. We've been one-and-done a grand total of twice, one of which included a first round bye postseason. They've had playoff expectations and fallen short a grand total of, what, twice? 2005, 2007? Do you bother counting 2004? Does it matter?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying and analyzing the prospects of a postseason in Baltimore. By the logic that, because the expectations were so low, we should just be happy with whatever comes at this point, why is the same formulation invalid when the team falls drastically short of the playoff expectations? Is it not absurd to expect acceptance with that performance?

The Ravens have an excellent chance to make the playoffs. There are essentially four teams in our situation vying for three spots (AFCN winner and two wild cards), and we have the upper hand versus one of them, and a chance to gain the upper hand against another in the next three weeks. Who in their right mind would reject excitement with those prospects?

What are the odds of a 9-7 team making the playoffs in the AFC? I think the Ravens can easily be 9-7.

No 9-7 AFC team will make the playoffs. The entire AFCE could finish at 9-7 or above, and the Colts (and Patriots to a lesser degree) will pretty convincingly get to at least ten wins.

That means that we must go 3-3 or better to assure a realistic shot. Looking at the schedule, I'm somewhat surprised that there's hesitation in the consideration that we can get to ten wins.

How about this scenario..Stealers lose to NE, we win against the Stealers, that puts us in first, NE then hoilds the tiebreaker over the Stealers..The Stealers are home for the tourney.

That's exactly the scenario I'm looking at. Plus, our stiffest remaining competition is Dallas. The Steelers still face Tennessee. Now, while we've gone over this simple scheduling already, I honestly think that it puts us a game ahead of Pittsburgh in the end.

Of course, New England has to cooperate, first.

This team is playing well at the right time of the season. Are they good enough to beat a playoff team? We'll see in the coming weeks as we play Wash, Pitt, and Dallas. This team has measured up so far, and gotten the job done well ahead of expectations. In order to make the playoffs we're going to be forced to hit one more checkpoint, beat a quality team that is most likely headed to the playoffs.

Remember we had Tennesee and Pitt on the roaps earlier this year. It can be done with a one game at a time metality. In order to accomplish great things two important elements are a vision and belief in that vision. I'm a beliver at the moment, I think this team is becoming something special.

I would think that 2 more wins and were in, one coming this Sunday Night.

Well, 2 more wins wouldn't win us the division, as I doubt that Pittsburgh is going to go 0-4 from here on out, and with tiebreakers they would need to finish 9-7 if we go 10-6. So, we would need two more wins plus each of New England and Miami to lose a game, which would be enough as long as one of the teams we beat is an AFC team. Miami's toughest game is against the Jets in Week 17 (which might be negated if they are locked into a seed by that point) and they play Buffalo, which could be difficult. New England's only really tough game is Arizona, plus a Week 17 game against Buffalo (who will probably have nothing to play for at this point). I'd much rather go 3-1, that would guarantee us a playoff spot so long as we don't end up in a wild-card tiebreaker Jets (which we would probably win anyway, but there is a slight chance we wouldn't)

2 wins could do it

3 will probably do it

Lets win the rest, starting with Skins

The team playing the best ball in Nov-December plays the deepest in the playoffs

Playoffs:

With a 5th seed

Beat the Jets, Stealers, Titans

Then a repeat of the 2000 beatdown of the Gaints
