No tag for Monroe

I think Ozzie is confident that we can retain Monroe. The question is what if the Dolphins or some unknown team wants to offer him 6 yrs 60 mil or something. How do you think that impacts what we do moving forward? I think we sign Oher at a workable number and draft an LT. But that also means our plans at WR change also. Hakeem Nicks may be the answer because I don't think any FA WRs are going to get huge money. We still have 8 days to sign Monroe so I'm jumping the gun a little but it could happen. Monroe is our ideal answer at LT.

If they put Oher at LT. We are screwed, this non tagging of Monroe is puzzling, they could of tagged him and worked a deal, some team is going to be sitting on bis front porch at midnight on free agency night and he will no longer be a raven.

And when that happens it's going to be raven egg on their face. I don't understand trading for a player to let him walk away 6 months later.

He is not worth the tag. He is not muh better than what is on the market, the left tackle position is at an all time low for talent. So you don't over pay for what is essentially an average player.

It's not overpaying. It's using the tag to make sure you get to negotiate with him. As you said it's a weak lot of LTs out there. And if he's the best of the weak lot then we need him as protection of our investment at qb.

This has been my stance all along. Unfortunately, it might mean that the Ravens didn't feel they would be able to get a deal done (in which case they would indeed be stuck paying him the $11.5mil or so).

The good news is that the Raiders didn't tag Veldheer and Albert is available as well. I'm guessing they wanted to leave their options open.

We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

Here is the rub. He is the best of the weak, but not by much. You can find tackles like him, poor against power ruhers, only good for zone blocking, not good at anticipation and prone to giving up a sack once every 15 drop backs because he tires easy and gets lazy with his foot work.

There are definitely options. Besides Veldheer and Albert who I mentioned above, there is also Anthony Collins. Collins was actually very good for Cincy last year and would most likely be cheaper than any of the other guys.

What's Monroe worth per year? 8 mil 9 mil? Hensley has him in that range but I offer no more than an average of 7.5 mil because he isn't top 5 good and barely top 10. He is only 26 but is he ever going to get top five good? I doubt it. I kind of agree that someone is going to overpay. I think he's gone. Think Ozzie is losing his touch Cravn? I don't but still may have been a misstep here.

No. They would have gotten the comp picks no matter. It looks like they threw away picks.

No. The comp pick they receive next year for Monroe (if he's signed by someone else). Unless, of course, they sign another UFA themselves.

Well if we have new LT and RT then the coaching staff has to earn it's money. It's been said that Castillo works better with young lineman. I hope that's true and that zone blocking done right can hide some shortcomings.

I smell a ton of transition for the O line.

Look out Joe!

I think it's obvious that Monroe and the Ravens weren't even close in negotiations. If they were, the tag would have been used. Ozzie had no problem using the tag on Suggs, Ngata and Rice because he knew long term deals would get done. He obviously was not confident about Monroe.

There are still a ton of moves that can be made. There are several good LTs and numerous Cs available in FA.

Suggs-One of the best pass rushers in the league at the time.

Ngata-Th ebest DT in the league.

Rice-Top 5 RB.

Monroe is what 12-15 LT. He isn't a top guy so you can't give him that leverage to get that money.
