49ers, Ravens plan to scrimmage prior to preseason

The Harbaugh family is planning a little preseason get-together.

This edition of Brother-to-Brother will take place prior to the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers facing off in their Week 1 preseason meeting on Aug. 7.

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows reported Friday that Jim Harbaugh's 49ers are planning to travel to Maryland to practice with and scrimmage John Harbaugh's Ravens before the preseason edition of the Harbowl.

It's not unusual during the preseason for teams to work together and scrimmage prior to their meaningless matchups. However, it's just more interesting when it's the Harbaugh brothers going at each other.

I bet they do it the week leading up to their pre season game. This should be very good because both teams don't like each other. Hatred breeds great competition which get's you in the best shape for the regular season.

"Who's got it better than us!?!"

I don't like it, they play dirty and could cause an unnecessary injury.....Why would a team travel that far for a scrimmage ?? absurd....

Our scrimmages are with the Skins and Eagles, let's keep it that way.

The more I think about this, the more I think it stinks. We're trying to install a new offense, get the new OC acclimated, get the O-line guys practicing and learning together, and trying to keep everybody healthy.

I don't look at it as a good time to put on a 'family football show' just to satisfy the Harbaugh's.

The Ravens don't have a bunch of pussies on their roster and they know dirty and physical better than the Whinners.

They can't get great playing against the cannon fodder of the league.

The 49ers will remain in Baltimore to practice against the Ravens until Monday afternoon.

“I called Jim about a month ago and asked him if he wanted to do it, and I wasn’t really sure if he’d want to,” Harbaugh said Friday. “And he was like, ‘Absolutely. Let’s do it.’”

After the game Thursday, the teams will hold a light practice at M&T Bank Stadium Friday afternoon. The 49ers will then travel to Owings Mills and they will have three days of practice at the Under Armour Performance Center.

“We’ve been trying to figure out the last four weeks or so how we’d set it up, and we decided to do it after the first game,” Harbaugh said. “We felt like the first two weeks we needed to do our install process and it would be better after the game. Nobody has really done one after the game that I’m aware of, so this will be the first time.”

In addition to John and Jim coming together for the few days of practice, their father Jack is also planning to attend.

“He’s going to be the unofficial official,” Harbaugh joked. “He’s going to be in charge of breaking up all fights – different brotherly scuffles. If we start rolling around on the field my dad is going to have to jump in I guess.

“It’s going to be fantastic. We just can’t wait to do it.”

The Owings Mills police are going to be busy.

There back in the ranks of "cannon fodder teams"

The whole point is to play the good teams crav.

So you think Philly is fodder ?....You might want to take a closer look at that one....And how dare you diss RG-3, you should be fired from your job and never allowed in KFC again as long as you live..... :D

I agree. So for the lost revenue from two games, would you have these scrimmages held at the home team's stadium and charge an open admission price for the scrimmage?

I'm a diehard, but I would never pay to see a scrimmage..
