Keveeno Posted January 11, 2010 Share Posted January 11, 2010 I'm at a point right now (living in Minneapolis but grew up in DC) where I want to move back around the area. I'm not resigning my lease and will take a month off to live in Sicily to meet some of my cousins. When I come back I will be looking for apts in the area around October. BMoreHon Posted January 11, 2010 Share Posted January 11, 2010 If you don't want to live downtown I would recommend Timonium, Hunt Valley (North of the city) or Columbia or even Glen Burnie. All have access to the light rail which in 15 mins takes you right to the stadium. I have lived in Columbia for 10 years. Even after both me and my husband's jobs moved to Towson, I still live in Columbia. I love it. It isn't cheap but it is worth the extra couple $$. ForceEight Posted January 11, 2010 Share Posted January 11, 2010 I would say to look for somewhere around the Beltway (close enough without actually having to be in the city), and away from the west, east, and southeast sides (Catonsville, Randallstown, Essex, Dundalk, etc.). I think that the Timonium/Hunt Valley area would be best if access to M&T is that important to you (light rail). Owings Mills/Pikesville is probably the nicest area you can get to. Parkville/Carney probably has the most value for what you might pay. Glen Burnie is right in the middle. Craigslist is actually a very good tool. dc. Posted January 11, 2010 Share Posted January 11, 2010 Agree on all fronts with other posts... Owings Mills, Towson, Timonium, Hunt Valley, etc etc... In the city, you can actually find some decently renovated places in good areas (Mt Vernon, Station North, etc) at decent rates. But you do have to hunt. Finding a roommate is never a bad idea either. I have friends who found a great place right off 83 and Charles St, 1 bed, 1.5 bath, amazing renovations for about $1000. Split two ways its manageable, depending on income. I haven't done a ton of looking ... but Towson further up York Rd/83 has had a lot of growth in terms of pop-up apts/condos... no idea on prices, but I know that many, many of them have not filled because of the market, so you may find a good deal. I actually have a few friends who moved into some newly renovated rowhomes right near the stadiums, actually, off of MLK St. It's an interesting spot... there is the up-and-coming rowhome area, the U of MD BioPark... and then some gov't and city-owned housing right next to it. But they said it's been very good and very nice. And amazing location for social life and sports. And literally 2 minutes from 395 and the highways. Also... in reference to Crav's rec; the areas he mentioned are definitely nice (and cheap relative to the others), but quite a hike from the city. Aberdeen is a good 45 minute drive from Towson, even. But I have friends who live that way and don't mind the drive for the weekend.
