Ranking the Ravens Defense after today

Sorry for the typo in title. I can't edit it.

After 7 games it has done very well.

  • In four of their seven games, the Ravens (5-2) have allowed 17 points or fewer. No team has scored more than 23 points against the Ravens, and the Bengals did that in Week 1.
  • The Ravens have yielded just 10 touchdowns all season.
  • In their last two games, the Ravens have a total of 10 sacks.
  • The Ravens have three linebackers who are terrorizing quarterbacks Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, and Pernell McPhee plus an inside linebacker, C. J. Mosley, who might be the Defensive Rookie of the Yea

and HARBs even sees confidence in the secondary and getting

Will Hill is a big plus and Webb is getting better. The pressure came from the front 7 today and Matt

Ryan was impressed.

He was blitzed often and sacked 4 times including a safety. On that play Brandon Williams was double

teamed on the right side and Ngata was double teamed on the left. Suggs blitzed but kind of hid behind

the massive Ngata, then cut to his left and went right up the middle untouched for the sack and safety.

Ryan never saw him coming or knew what hit him. D did a great job disguising that play with Suggs

hiding and then coming up the middle.

The play before that Dooooom just missed a sack and safety as Ryan got rid of the ball while going down.

As I said earlier....with Webb getting back to 100% the Ravens are very close to 2 shut down corners.

Factor in the pass rush and QB pressures and this unit can be very, very good.

I'm officially getting off Pees' ass after today.

I have been very critical of him in the past but I guess his bend but don't break D was there because he didn't want to over blitz and expose the weak secondary. Now he has Webb rounding into form and a really good FS in Hill he just unleashed the hounds and it looks really good. I'm looking forward to the rematch with Cinci now. We win that one and we really get a strangle hold on the AFC North.

That is exactly what I was saying weeks ago.

Hold the phone, they beat on a terrible offensive line with their 3rd string center in this last game. The one before, same issue, a terrible offensive line... Just like last year, Dumervil & Suggs make their living off poor teams and are no where to be found when it matters.....

I fully expect the Ravens to win Sunday. I think injuries will be so much for Cincy hey won't get past it.

While I think Hurst and Urschal performed admirably for the last 3 weeks and will both be very productive in the future, I hope we have a healthy Monroe and Osemele for this game.

Hold on there. Suggs was stoned by their OT. He only did something when they stunted him through the middle of the OL. He came clean on that play. Suggs still isn't doing anything of valuet.

Suggs broke through the middle because he disguised the blitz

by hiding behind Ngata who took up 2 blockers. They didn't

even see him. Then Suggs cuts to the center and blasts

thru untouched. Ryan said he never saw him coming because

he disguised the blitz. That's how. Ryan said they did a great

job disgusing all their blitzes.

Suggs was injured earlier with a back prob and a thigh prob

that he played thru but he has 2.5 sacks in the last 2 games

so he has impacted.

MOsley is getting free because Suggs is getting blocked so

much so that gives him room to roam but HARBs said that

Suggs is still playing at a high level.

Suggs is getting blocked by one man, usually the tackle, some times, the tight end. He is rarely, if ever double teamed to the term, "blocked so much" so does not apply.

I was shocked to see Dumervil with 7 sacks on the season. Why? Because he has been a no show in big games, or in times when the defense really needs a sack. He is usually blocked by a tight end, sometimes by a tackle, but like Suggs, rarely, if ever, double teamed.

I expect those two to turn up more in games, in big drives now because of how well McPhee is playing along with Williams and Dino Nuggets . They need to lock up McPhee now, not let him hit the oen market...

Suggs didn't have anyone blocking him on his sack and safety on Sunday.

He only gets one blocker because Ngata and Brandon are taking up all the

rest.

Look at the Jackson hit by Mosley. It was early in game with 3d and 1 and

Atlanta can sustain a good drive with a first down. Jackson gets the hand off

and Mosley runs around the entire o-line untouched to nail Jackson in the

back field.

Atlanta's zone blocking had everyone pushing our giants to the middle from

right to left and from left to right. That left the right side completely open for

Mosley who laid down some serious shit all game.

It was the same with Suggs who went up the middle untouched. They can't

block everyone. Suggs has 2.5 sacks in the last 2 games and the Ravens

D has given up the fewest TDs in the league and scoring amongst the most

themselves. I think Haney said on radio they are scoring the most

That goes without saying. It is good PT for them though.

So you think Suggs came up with the stunt up the middle? Pees didn't call the play to get Suggs involved? Why is it he gets stoned against OT's? He used to bullrush or put moves on them and get to the QB. Where has that gone?

That has nothing to do with what I said. Anyone can get a sack even for a safety if they are not being blocked. Suggs has his sacks against poor offensive lines. Just like last year, all his sacks cam in the first half of the season, the easy part, and he was no where to be found, nor was Dumervil, in the second half of the season.

We shall see if he and Dumrvil can get consistant pressure with the way the middle of the line is playing.

And you keep missing the point why they aren't blocked. It's the giants taking up blockers just like Goose and Adams did on the SB 35 team. Again, Suggs was injured early and Doom was slowed down. He just got his quick first step back which is why he got his big sacks Sunday. You have an excuse for everything like the poor teams. Luck was sacked up the middle too and the guy was untouched. It keeps happening

vs all the teams, good and bad and that doesn't happen very often to Luck but it did for the same reason as Suggs was open.

Sunday will be a good test but the D kept Cinci to 23 points in Week 1 and it's much better now and as bad as the right side of

the secondary was that you always bitched about before held Julio Jones to just 1 TD and that was over Dominque Frank whom

we just took off the streets and in gravey time. That right side held the last two Os to 2 TDs and Ryan is a good QB with an arsenal

of weapons.
