He absolutely is. He is a different breed and dominantly anchored the Ravens defensive line for nine years. In the words of Owner Steve Bisciotti, Ngata is an iconic Raven and will be greatly missed. papasmurfbell Posted March 12, 2015 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Yeah. He was a FA the same off season McNair was traded for. Brees was at first going to Mia but failed the physical. Then NO was the only other team to give him a look and got a NO friendly deal. There was an out after 1 season. thundercleetz Posted March 12, 2015 Share Posted March 12, 2015 I remember that offseason as well. A lot of us on the board were hoping for Brees. I forget what our cap situation was. I think it was tight, but not terrible. I'm sure we could have made a competitive offer. Maybe Billick was still holding on to hope that Boller could develop and an older QB like McNair as a short term option would be better. Thinking positively: - He didn't really take over the full workload until the third week or so, there might be some untapped production there (although added durability risks)- A full offseason with the Ravens to prepare (has been working out at the Ravens facility up until the March 10 start of free agency). - We saw Forsett start to be utilized in the passing game and he has the quickness and vision to cause mismatches. Trestman loves throwing the ball to his RB's. Obviously there are risks with Forsett that have already been mentioned in the deal. Pending the breakdown of the deal, I like it a lot. I figure it is basically a no lose situation for the Ravens at this price. If he produces great, if not, they lose very little on the cap, comparatively speaking. I would rather have seen some cap money spent on Chandler the Bill's big TE that they cut. RB's just have so many durability issues. I know he's a 'young' 30, but I still have doubts.
