What he brings: Boyle is a team captain whose toughness and physicality jumped out during the week of the Senior Bowl and on the 2014 Pittsburgh tape. He's a throwback Y or blocking tight end that gets his hands inside, presses defenders off his frame and flashes the ability to move his assignment off the ball. He also gets into position and anchors well enough in pass protection. While he's not a big-play threat, he has the frame, wide catching radius and big hands to develop into a reliable target underneath.

More help for Joe in the run game and pass.

Supernaw's in trouble.

He's sounds like a solid TE who should wind up in our TE rotation. Appears to be a really good receiver but meh blocker. I think some time with Juan will help him. (never thought I'd be saying that about Castillo a year ago this time).

Weaknesses

Doesn't play to his frame in run game. Allows defenders to swat away hands and disengage too quickly. Sloppy footwork as blocker. Positional blocker -- doesn't consistently wall off against lesser competition. Tape shows questionable desire and competitiveness when asked to run block. Averaged 3.1 yards fewer per catch in 2014 than 2013. Looked quicker, more athletic and more energetic in 2013. Gets caught leaning into his break, giving route away. Dull out of breaks.

I wouldn't put Supernaw out to pasture just yet......

Just don't get the pick. How about getting a cheap vet for the rotation? Just not getting this pick.

Why of course you don't. MEMO : The Ravens draft best player available, NOT by position like the bottom NFL cellar dwellars do.

I heard, in a podcast prior to the draft, that he aside from being mostly a blocking TE is a great long snapper. I could see that being of interest given the injuries that occured at that position last year.

This also begs the question, if you 3rd TE can long snap and say one of your backup interior OL, do you actually need a dedicated long snapper on the active roster or could you save that roster spot?

Fifth round seems high for a prospect of his skill set and experience. But if he had a good Senior Bowl and game against his team's toughest opponent of the year, maybe we saw something. Scouting reports indicate he had a better 2013 than 2014.

The Ravens offense is a TE offense which was a weakness last season instead of the killer strength it could be. They badly need depth at this position...and blockers.

Now they have 2 legit blockers in Gilmore and Boyle. This is a very important element that forces teams to play honest due to the threat to run the ball.

In that case it is pretty smart.

Do you trust a 2nd yr and 2 rookies with 1:40 65 yds to go and down by 5? I would like to have the option of a vet on the field.

ESPN Scouts Inc. likes Boyle a lot more than the other scouting report in this topic:

HWS: 2

Ideal height and weight for a Y prospect. Thick with big thighs and defined shoulders. Big hands and average arm length. Short shuttle is quicker than five-year Combine average for position and very good for Y prospect but vertical jump and broad jump are both below average. Marginal top-end speed on tape.

COMPETITIVENESS: 1

Hard-nosed brawler that hasn't backed down going up against higher levels of competition (2014 Pittsburgh game and 2015 Senior Bowl). Gets under defenders' skin. Plays to the echo of the whistle and drives defenders out of bounds. Aggressive and searches out contact when gets into space. Takes eye off the ball to locate defenders but also exposes frame to big hits and makes plays over the middle.

BLOCKING: 1

Footwork is a touch inconsistent and whiffs on rare occasions but generally gets into sound position. Gets hands inside initially and above average resetting hands when they get knocked down. Above average upper body strength. Presses and steers defender. Inconsistent pad level but above average power base and flashes ability to drive defensive ends when stays low. Adequate angles and body control but limited athlete that struggles to adjust to moving targets at second level. Gets into position and anchors well in pass pro.

A 1 is Scouts Inc.'s top grade and is considered 'Exceptional'. Receiving skills aren't there yet, but he had big hands and a very good short shuttle. Sounds like he will compliment Williams and Gillmore well.

Taking Boyle was a smart move. In the offense we run, you've got to have multiple tight ends (and what if there is an injury?). In any case, I still wouldn't be surprised if they pick up one of the last FA vets just to have around. Could still pick up Gresham or Miller for the vet minimum.

Really looking forward to Maxx.

So how many TE's can they use at once? Gilmore and Williams are the future. If they bring in the vet doe Boyle make the roster? I just don't see it. Maybe he had a mysterious injury towards the end of camp and ends up on IR.

Try some optimism.

If he is PS then he will be cut and brought back. Again I don't get the pick there as a dev player.

They send him thru waivers and if he isn't claimed he goes on

PS. They've drafted 3 TEs in 2 years. They want to be prepared

if Pitta doesn't come back and now have the youngest 1-2 TE

punch in the NFL.

They also have depth with Boyle.

I am saying that Gilmore, Willaims, ans a vet would be a better mix. At some points you want a vet to have a little more responsibility. Also I looks at the Rookie Wall so having 2 rookies is not helpful there. I would also add that most rookie TE's are not that productive the first season.

Ozzie drafted Dickson and Pitta the same year and won the

SB with them. Take out Pitta's TD and they lose.

Now he's injured and nobody knows if he'll ever play again

so drafting two more rookies should have the same result

in the end, ie, another SB trophy.

So who was that guy on the roster. Todd something who was a tight end. What was his last name? I guess he just sucked and was a nothing though.
