I don’t live in Arizona, but I’ve heard more about the 7-5 Steelers than I have about the Cardinals as a possible Super Bowl team.Again, I don’t live in Arizona. I’m sure in Phoenix and Tucson the buzz is palpable about this team. But for a national discussion? I’m just not hearing it.Look at the numbers: Offensive yards per game, Arizona is averaging 417.5, best in the league. Passing yards per game, third behind New England and New Orleans. Rush yards per game, they’re top ten. On defense, fourth in yards allowed and fourth in points allowed. This is a top five offense and top five defense, and every day I have to read about if Cam Newton’s dancing will deter the Panthers from winning a Super Bowl.The Arizona Cardinals are going to have a lot more to do with the Panthers not winning a Super Bowl than any dance moves of Newton’s.Carson Palmer isn’t just having a nice season, he’s having one of his best seasons ever, and should be in the MVP discussion. He’s already thrown for 4,000 yards this year, with 31 touchdowns to 9 interceptions. Larry Fitzgerald just passed the 1,000 yard mark for the season, and has been spectacular, catching 96 balls and not looking a touch slower at age 32. Michael Floyd just had his fourth 100-yard receiving game in five games, and seems to be peaking at the perfect moment.On defense, they’re fearsome, and they have one of the most exciting secondaries in the entire league. (Forget the “Legion of Boom,” I’ll take Tyrann “The Honeybadger” Mathieu and Patrick Peterson any day.) This is a complete team.So there it is, my plea: Let’s stop sleeping on the Cardinals. I know head coach Bruce Arians probably appreciates how little hype his team is getting, and would love to enter the playoffs under the radar. Sorry, coach. I won’t allow it. Your team is too good. Let’s get the hype train going. Palmer has to stay healthy and his arm better not wear out, but I like the Cards right now.
