now that-that debacle of a game is over

My gosh, it is a good thing the Bengals have the worst offensive line in the league or this could have been flipped score wise.

Can't run block, no, stats lie. Can't pass block, no, "gelling" is not an excuse when you get bull rushed. Can't call plays nor design plays nor get them in on time.

6 turnovers and only 20 pts? Wide outs with "speed" who can't beat man coverage?

Why did they keep Jensen again? Oh yeah, so he can keep holding defensers, hey he only got caught 3, 4 times....

They might win 4 games, maybe...

9 of 17 for 121 yards with 1 td and 1 pick is not sharp. Yes, some of that is on the line, some on rust, but he missed a few big plays out there & instead checked down.

158 yards rushing looks good, but how many 3 & outs in the 4th quarter?

5 turnovers, 5 sacks, if this defense has to play like that every game, they will wear out quickly... Keep in mind, Dalton missed a few touchdown throws.... One wide open long one on broken coverage, again..

Didn't miss a wide open receiver 30 yards down field by over throwing after the db and safety to that side forgot what coverage they were in?

Miss an open Green in the end zone? Over throwing again...

He missed, maybe we can blame it on being hurried because he was being battered.

But, yes this defense played great, shutting out any team in the NFL is not easy.

However, once again the coaching, and offense was horrible.

If I thought the team was going to be really good I might be less happy about this win. However I thought/think this is going to be a really average team so I am pleased and surprised by the win. Offense was not good though.

After all these years you fall for this crap?

Spen, what do you expect? The offense did it's job. It kept us in the game and the running game ate up most of the clock in the second half. You can't ask for much more. I agree with Craven- don't let these swindlers take you off your game.

I was impressed with the defense today. Looked like the ravens of old. Suggs played great it must be easier with a supporting cast. If this defense can stay healthy it can be a vaunted defense. In my mind one of the question marks is how good correa is gonna be. I hope he surprises me. Woodhead came out on fire. He could be one of the catalyst for this offense. Jenson either is over matched or maybe teams are teeing off on him because of the media/preseason. I'm not sure hes the answer at center. Whats with max Williams not being utilized more in this offense? Hopefully Joe can mesh with Macklin and Wallace both have great speed. I'm a defense fan so I'll be happy with a strong defense and fair to good offense not necessary for great offense.

I totally enjoyed this game.

20-0! Shit. Shut outs in today's NFL are rare.

Very impressive.

The Ravens showed up, executed, made the plays and played fundamentally sound football.

Except for the 11 penalties. That has to get seriously reduced.

This team is tackling great by the way.

They ran 47 times. For 3.7 ypc. Behind that weak, brand new O line. I'll take that any game, all year.

And they didn't win ugly.

It was a business like, methodical beating.

And they bought another weeks time for the offense to develop.

"Play great on defense, play unbelievable special teams, and play solid on offense -- that’s going to be the secret for us to win," Weddle said. "Don’t turn the ball over, create turnovers, play sound defense, no big plays. Whoever we’re playing against, it doesn’t matter."

Eric said this before the season.

They delivered.

Thank You, :gorave:

You are out of your mind, did you even watch? We killed the clock midway thru the 3rd and the entire 4th.

That game could have been flipped. The Offense was not on point at first. Had Cincy connected on a few of those then the running the time off in the 3rd would not have been happening.

Yes, I watched, that was nice but as I said don't be fooled. Oh they only ran fairly well in the 3rd and even then they were helped by somw very questionable penalties....

Totally agree.

Other than the first drive, 13 plays. 57 yards ( field goal), 7 plays 76 yards (56 on one play) (touchdown), but the 17 play 81 yard drive that was helped out by 2 questionable pass interference penalties, that also included 2 delay of game penalties against the offense and also 2 time outs to avoid other penalties of the same, the 2nd half offense was horrible.

Playing it safe? Ok, sure....

6 series of 3 & out, 1 of 4 plays & out, another 2 plays & a pick.

Sure, 1 play 2 yards for a touchdown awesome. But once again, 11 penalties, much of them were for delay of game on the offense or holding on the offense, our favorite center....

TOP was great, they took their time running 3 plays.....

A work in progress? Ok Max, haven't we said that every year? But I will go along with it, some teams start out slow for the first 3-5 games....

The Ravens ran the ball against an 8-9 man stacked box. At one point for 11 straight plays.

They haven't been able to do that since the days of Jamal Lewis. I'll take the 3.7 ypc.

The O line got serious road grading work that they needed.

This was smart coaching and game management.

"You Play to Win the Game."

This was a real NFL game. Not fantasy football.

They had an offense that had been together for 8 days.

A QB who hadn't thrown for a couple of months. He has a back they were worried about. And he has a backup quarterback they were even more worried about. Anybody who saw Mallett warming up outside the concussion tent that Flacco was in had to be thinking "We're done."

Up 17-0 at the half, with the best kicker in the league, and a defense that is feasting on Bengal flesh, the smart move is to take the ball out of the QB's hands. To avoid a turnover that could let the Bengals back in the game. To protect the QB physically. And to use the Bengals as a practice, scrimmage squad to try and get a non existent running game resurrected from the dead.

The goal was to win the game. A divisional game. On the road, in a stadium where they don't win.

Mission accomplished.

Max, I don't play nor expect fantasy numbers.

What you state about 8,9 man box is the point. True they ran against it, for ONE DRIVE.

After that, as I pointed out, 3 & out the rest of the game.

One would expect, after a 17 play, all run drive, they would at least go play action on first down of the next drive and try to pass.

But they did not, they just ran 3 times & punted.

8 times in the game they ran 3 plays or less in a series.

The line could not protect Flacco, the receivers could not get open, certain players kept comitting penalties on offense, 11 penalties, ALL AGAIN..

So nothing changed from last season, they still can't run, consistantly , still can't stop shooting them selves in the foot and still can't coach.

What more can you expect from a unit that's been together for 8 days?

I was very pleased. They could have, maybe even should have, looked like the Bengal offense.

Now they have a game under their belt and another week to practice and get more disciplined and cohesive.

The D and Special Teams are ready and have arrived.

The offense is a work in progress. The trick is to find ways to win while the O tries to get their shit together.

And they will.

Turn on the Vikes vs Saints game. Vikes offensive line has not played a snap together until tonight... See the difference?

The Ravens line was getting blown back, missing blocks, not getting to blocks. Sure, maybe you are right they just need time, 3-4 games. I hope so Max, you know that, but you also know I look at the game, not just the ball, and do not excuse away bad play.

11 penalties, 8 drives of 3 plays or less...

Jensen is not going to get stronger as the season goes on, he is what he is, bad. Stanley was not known for power, he showed no signs he has gotten stronger either...
