Someone who can teach him about pocket awareness, mechanics, stepping up and holding on to the rock. Otherwise, Lamar like RG will have an abbreviated career. Aside from a miserable OL, which needs to be addressed in the off-season, Lamar will need some mentoring on the above issues. If that doesnt happen we are back to square 1. oldno82 Posted January 7, 2019 Share Posted January 7, 2019 Tough choice but while RGIII would be a fine backup it's definitely true that Lamar needs some intense teaching for the pocket. I'm not sure who would be available to mentor him as a pocket type passer. I think that's more up to the coaches to drill him on. So bottom line for me is that I dunno at this point but I'd be leaning for also getting a young qb who's shown some promise as a pocket passer and who can back him up. Lamar won't last a whole more season running the way he does now. Of course, carrying a pocket passer as your backup also means the team has to practice both types of offense. If he repeats yesterdays performance next season, we will quickly find ourselves in the AFCN cellar. I’m hoping he does and works his arse off in the off-season. If so, kudos to him and things will trend upwards. If not, we will have already seen his ceiling this season. And that is why we need a contingency plan to compensate For Joes loss plus have a QB for the future. The QB situation should become a big deal this offseason. Find Lamar some weapons a legit mentor/back up and give him/them a year. If it works, great. If not, return to QB drawing board in 2020 which would not surprise. He is a better passer than he gets credit for. As afar as backup, RG3 is perfect. Hes a good teammate, has experience doing similar things to what Jackson will do, still relatively young and I think has good value for what he can bring on the field. vmax Posted March 21, 2019 Share Posted March 21, 2019 I'm with Spen and OTR on this. I see the same things so far.Lamar was thrown in cold and had to learn and adopt on the fly. I'm re watching his games and at times he shows very good awareness and good accuracy. That's something to build on. He has a great QB coach in James Urban who did a great job with McNabb and Vick.Roman will put all the pieces together.Lamar has valuable experience after playing 7 games. The size, strength, speed, athleticism, and strong arm are all in place. Sitting for 3 yrs and learning maybe they can work on the accuracy. With a 5th there is time to groom.
