The Ravens currently possess six picks heading into the 2019 NFL Draft come April 25.

General manager Eric DeCosta and the front office are expected to add at least one more to their arsenal.

Each year, the NFL award can award compensatory draft selections to a team “losing more or better compensatory free agents than acquires in the previous year.” Picks are awarded anywhere between the third-seventh round based on a formula that takes into account salary, playing time and postseason honors.

OverTheCap (OTC) projects the Ravens to receive a third-round compensatory pick this seasonafter losing center Ryan Jensen in free agency. Jensen became the highest paid center in the NFL after signing a 4-year, $42 million deal with the Buccaneers.

Based on OTC’s projections, Jensen was one of two qualifying free agents the Ravens lost this offseason. The other was tight end Ben Watson but his departure was canceled out by the signing of John Brown.

Mike Wallace did not qualify after signing a 1-year, $2.5 million deal with the Eagles.

However, these are just merely projections. The Ravens were expected to receive a third-round compensatory pick last year, but received a sixth-round selection.

There’s no way of predicting an exact result but Jensen’s payday and the fact that he played all 16 regular season games this year bodes well.

Compensatory picks are typically announced in late February and it’s an area the Ravens have dominated since the franchise’s inception in 1996. They currently lead all teams with 49 total compensatory selections.

They’ll get No. 50 this offseason but what round is still up for speculation.
