Source: Ravens, Cundiff agree

The Ravens and Pro Bowl kicker Billy Cundiff have reached agreement on a five-year, $15 million contract, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The deal is expected to be signed this week.

January 23, 2011

Report: Cundiff to sign five-year, $15 million deal

The Ravens and Cundiff's agent didn't immediately return messages from The Sun.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that the sides were in negotiations.

"I’ll be very surprised if something doesn’t get done with Billy Cundiff, and I’ll be disappointed," Harbaugh said Jan. 17. "But I think it’s going to happen.”

Way to go Ozzie! Cundiff more than deserves this deal and now we won't have to worry about our kicker for the next five seasons. If Cundiff was this easy lets hope that Koch is next! Then on to Ngata. However, pending the CBA, Koch and Ngata could be RFA this upcoming season:

Ravens Operating Under 2010 FA Rules

Newsome pointed out that the Ravens are still operating under the 2010 league rules regarding free agency, which could leave Baltimore with just seven unrestricted free agents.

“We’re still working under the 2010 rules,” Newsome said. “Up until that changes, I think we’ve got [seven], maybe, UFAs that we’ll be dealing with going forward.”

Here’s how it all works:

In the final year of the near-expired collective bargaining agreement, the rules changed regarding when players are eligible to become unrestricted and restricted free agents. Originally, players only had to have four years service in the league to become an unrestricted free agent.

Last season, it went to six years, meaning many players who would have been free to speak to any team were instead restricted, giving their current club first right to negotiate, among other perks.

Those rules are still in effect until March 4, when the current collective bargaining agreement ends. If there’s not a new agreement by that time and a work stoppage ensues, teams cannot speak with players or their agents to explore a new contract until there’s a new agreement.

When that agreement is reached, it’s generally expected that the rules regarding free agency will return to their prior four-year format.

I think this is the most the Ravens have ever paid a kicker.

Special Teams is a big part of this teams winning formula. Pin them deep...force teams into long drives to score points.

Koch is next. Then bring in some vet ST specialists like they did in 99 and 2000.

This is really good news. Now for Koch and Ngata. I'd also like to see them sign Josh Wilson and Chris Carr if they can afford them.

If Ozzie is rigth the 2010 rules will be back.. and 2006-2007 draftpicks just like the 2008 draftpicks will be RFAs..

If so Koch, Ngata, Wilson, Gaither, Chester, Yanda, McClain, Landry, Burgess will be RFAs and all of them will likely be Ravens in 2011.. But some of them will not be happy.. see McClain, Landry, Wilson and Koch... And Ngata maybe Dallas or that neighbour will break the bank, sigh.

Leaving Bulger, Carr, Houser, TJ, Stallworth and Fabian as true FAs.

None of those is really needed.. I would like Carr back and maybe TJ/Stallworth but TJ migth give us a 3-4 round pick in 2012 if we let him go.

I see Ngata getting a huge deal this season. The question is can the Ravens afford it.

Bisciotti so far has been very open with the check book. If there is one guy you break the bank for, it's Ngata. On the topic of free agents, I would give Santonio Holmes whatever he wants to come here. He is exactly what our offense needs.

I am seeing a $110 mil over 7 yrs with $40 in bonus money. That is a lot of cash. Will it make it that they can't keep many other people because you sign the one guy. I wanted the ravens to sign him 3 yrs ago. That was before fat Albert and Suggs got their deals. If they had done it then it could have been 7 yrs $66 mil with $20 min in bonuses.

We'll have to see how much the contract comes out too, but Harbaugh, Ozzie and Bisciotti all realize that Ngata is the best player on our defense. Big NTs can play well into their 30s, if there is someone you break the bank for, it's Ngata. You don't let your best player walk. The fact that Ngata showed up for Pagano's press conference at the end of the season, even though he isn't under contract, shows he wants to be back.

If it is an crazy deal then keeping Ngata can hurt you more than letting him go. If him staying makes you lose 5 solid players then it is a bad signing.

Ngata is absolutely someone we need to bring back. I'd like to avoid paying Haynesworth money if possible. We should probably offer to make him the second highest paid DT in the league, behind Haynesworth. Ngata is prob the best DT in the league and if Haynesworth's deal wasn't so ridiculous, Ngata should be the highest paid DT. the one difference between paying Ngata big money and Haynesworth.......Ngata is a football player with heart and passion. You're not gonna keep him off the field. Ngata will earn his check, no doubt in my mind.

But if Ngata can get crazy Haynesworth money that is what the Ravens would have to give him. The question is can the Ravens go there. If it gets into the $100 mil range I don't think they can.

Agreed..50-70 mil should be the price... Much more than that and Ngata is destroying more than helping.. Same money as Suggs 38 mil guearanteed and a total of 63 mil.

That is unless he gets an offer like that from someone else. Then the Ravens would have to match.

What would it take for you to trade Ngata? Two firsts?

I think nearly every GM in this league realizes that the Haynesworth deal was an enormous mistake. Who knows, all it takes is one insane GM. I would like to think we could sign Ngata for less. I could very well be wrong though.

We have seen plenty of insane GM's over the yrs. I doubt you can trade Ngata now. He is not under contract. As of right now there is not franchise or transition tags to use on a player.

Well if we are gong by 2010 rules Ngata would be a RFA, wouldn't he? It would also be an uncapped year. If we go by the 2009 rules we would be able to use a franchise tag, I believe. So we should be able to keep him for this upcoming season at least.

Anyways, assuming we tag him or he's restricted, would you trade him? If so, for what?
