ForceEight Posted December 27, 2008 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Derrick Mason, who is suffering from a shoulder injury, will play on Sunday against Jacksonville, Ravens coach John Harbaugh told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio on Saturday. "The shoulder is getting better, but he's dealing with some related spasms in his neck. We'll work those out before game time with some deep tissue massage and he'll go," Harbaugh said. In last week's win at Dallas, Mason caught six passes for 66 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown, despite having to leave the game twice after aggravating the injury. He was listed as questionable in the team's injury report. ForceEight Posted December 27, 2008 Author Share Posted December 27, 2008 I got the 2000 season playoffs on DVD, and I just finished watching the Titans game in the divisional round. 2000 was the season he emerged as a starting receiver (he was already KR/PR), because Thigpen was injured. In that game, he was injured twice (helmet to helmet hit and awkward leg landing) and came back into the game both times. True, but the dude was running routes with one flap, and he crumpled like a sack of potatoes after big contact against Dallas. I'm sure he'll be pumped full of cortisone to minimize pain, but he's going to take some serious licks if he tries to cross the field. I'm not saying that he should only run sideline routes, but this - of all games - is the one for Clayton and Heap to step up to take the heat off of Mason. Until then...he has to play. Sad thing is that this is Marcus Smith's opportunity to step up...and he hasn't. However, Harbaugh is on record as saying he guarantees 100% that the Pats are beating the Bills. So I doubt that situation is even being considered.
