"Look, this is a young man's game," Belichick said during Super Bowl week. "The young guys coming up are putting pressure on the veteran players, and I know at some point they are going to push them out.
"You just try to remain competitive by bringing in good quality talent, let them compete against each other, and take the best players."
New England faces what may be an agonizing offseason decision concerning Wes Welker, who leads the league with 554 receptions since 2007. With 122 grabs this season, he had 22 more than runner-up Roddy White of the Atlanta Falcons to go with a franchise-record 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns.

Welker might not be back in NE.

I'd love Welker here, but Rice and Grubbs are more important

Our offense doesn't have any routes in it that Welker could run.

He's mostly just good at the effective stuff.

You're right Spear.
Why play here for 40 catches a year?
“Here’s a reality of this league,” John started, “you never pick up where you left off the season before. We’re never back to a minute left in the AFC championship game ready to take it to the Super Bowl. We’re not there until we earn our way back there again. Every team starts over, and the foundation for us starts right now. We build the whole thing from scratch."
