Remember three years ago when Rex Ryan, who had just been hired as head coach of the New York Jets, showed up at Bart Scott’s home in Owings Mills shortly after midnight -- minutes after the free agency period began -- and told the free agent he wasn’t leaving Baltimore without him? The honeymoon appears to be over.

Just another example of why players should know their value and not chase the money. Carl Crawford of the Red Sox is a classic example. In no possible way will he ever live up to his contract. He's going to be frustrated by fans his entire career as a sock until that contract runs out.

Back to Scott, chalk up another LBer that just wishes they would have stayed for less and played next to Lewis.

For over $100 million, I don't think Carl Crawford could possibly care less, regardless of what he says publicly.

Yes he does, and yes they do. It's why they look frustrated and stressed out when not performing. It's why they flop miserably. These guys are competitors (for the most part), they don't want to perform poorly or not up to par. Crawford was set up for disaster even if he hit .300 ball. For his contract, that was not good enough.

As far as sports in general, I can think of a million reasons players shouldn't chase the money. They should chase success and excellence and let the money fall where it may. It's not how much money you make that makes you rich. Most guys have and never will make the money that Pippen made, and he's broke. So is Terrell Owens and the list goes on and on. It's nonsense.

Find a place that makes you successful and HAPPY, then let the money fall where it may. Make WISE investments for your future and continue to work hard through retirement paying ATTENTION to your finances and I guarantee there will be ample happiness for an individual. More than one can handle.
