The Bengals whip the Jets with depth.

And a pretty good defense too. I'm a bit concerned with the injuries, but none seem too bad.

Bengals roll Jets with depth

Even if their head coach couldn't quite say it, the stat sheet and the scoreboard did.

The Bengals' 17-6 victory over the Jets Friday night at Paul Brown Stadium was as sharp and fast and as physical and as total as any preseason opener they’ve played in Marvin Lewis' 10 seasons.

Exhibit A: The 17 points are what they scored in the three previous preseason openers combined.

Everyone from Pro Bowl quarterback Andy Dalton (a 15-play drive), to free-agent rookie middle linebacker Vontaze Burfict (an interception) to special teamers Dan Skuta (blocked punt) and Cedric Peerman (two touchdowns) to long lost third-rounder Dontay Moch (1.5 sacks) contributed to an effort the Jets were briefly in the red zone once, the Bengals had five sacks, the Jets could muster just 173 yards, and the Bengals had no turnovers.

"I thought we tackled, which was key, because coming into the first preseason game, just making sure we do a good job of tackling is big, because in training camp we haven’t had many opportunities to do that," Lewis said. "So that was a positive. Overall, my impression, I thought some of the young guys got an opportunity to play more than we expected, and that will be a good chance to evaluate them. I thought in special teams, we handled the substitutions well, so we played with poise. Starting out, that was going to be big, and we can build upon that."

There were things to work on, of course. The offense took off on a brisk 15-play, 76-yard march the second time they had the ball, but the problems in the red zone and on the goal line that have hampered them for the last several years surfaced when they stalled at the Jets 4 and had to settle for Mike Nugent's 22-yard field goal.

They had a big penalty on special teams when they lined up illegally over center while receiving a punt and gave the Jets a first down on the defense's second series. And they averaged just 2.8 yards per rush on 31 rushes.

Granted it's only the 1st preseason game, but we played and won against a pretty good team.

Granted I liked what I seen, the Jets are cooked, Bart Scott looked absolutely lost out there, huff n puffin..Just cant belive the Bengals havent built bars & restuarants around that waterfront..

That blocked punt ws something else, the punter only had 2 seconds to catch the snap and get it off, thats called blowing up the line by the Bengals front 7

It's almost impossible to firgure out if a team is going to be good from the 1st preseason game.

It's just like the Ravens game...all it proves is the team with the better depth won.

It took an x-Raven to get the Bengals the win too...Peerman acounted for the scores. :gorave:

The Bengal defense looked solid.

The Jets are not a good team. They don't stink, but they are the most over-hyped team in the NFL. a .500 club and probably no better this year. The Bengals only TD score in the first half was a blocked punt with 22 seconds. However...I love it when an AFC North team beats the Jets no matter when the game is played.

On the Jet hype thing...Tebow is not an NFL caliber QB even as the #2 or #3 QB on the depth chart. He's awfull.

I do think the Bengals will field a very solid, competetive team this season and that the franchise is moving in the right direction. Like the Ravens, this injury thing is becoming a concern....but there is still plenty of time for a lot of these players to be healthy for the season opener.

I was down there a year ago crav, and there are plenty of places to eat and drink at on both the Ohio and Kentucky sides of the river.

Really?? when I flew in there I said oh man, 2 stadiums right on the river like that, this should be a hell of a place for waterfront nightly activity...But it looked bare on our descent..And we were low, so low that I seen the workers working on the Bearcats Stadium.. Has a TON of potential..

You flew over and think you know about the Cincinnati riverfront. Like I said before I was there in person. Personally I think the Kentucky side has a better choice of venues. Hooters and what not, but all are in easy walking distance of the Stadiums.

Dude, you've gotta quit drinkin', and if you don't... start.

Man, you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself. You don't have to go there is not an answer. I don't care if it's Philly, Cincy, or Buttfuck Egypt. You know nothing about the place until you put your boots on the ground there. Get a grip old man.
