As we put a close to the NFL exhibition schedule, here's where the AFC North led the league and AFC in preseason statistics:

Longest run from scrimmage: Adonis Thomas, Browns, 64 (led AFC)

Passing touchdowns: Curtis Painter, Ravens, 6 (led NFL)

Receiving yards: Antonio Brown, Steelers, 204 (AFC)

Receiving touchdowns: Antonio Brown, Steelers, 3 (NFL)

Total offense: Ravens, 390.5 (NFL)

Points: Ravens, 108 (AFC)

Pass attempts: Ravens, 189 (AFC)

Passing yards per game: Ravens, 275.5 (AFC)

Points: Justin Tucker, Ravens, 29 (AFC)

We know the offenses and defenses weren't game planning....the D's were showing nothing and a lot of these numbers were put up by the 2's and 3's.

I was a little shocked to see the Ravens at #1 in so many offensive catagories. After many pre seasons of dismal numbers by the offense, this is refreshing. It tells me the system fits the personel and that they are comfortable in it. That's all.

Of course the huge question is: Will this translate into the regular season?

Crav Painter has a body of work in the regular season. What in that body of work says that he is a decent backup? They guy beats 2s and 3s, that's all. As soon as he's put in against 1s he folds. I just dont think cutting painter was bad. He's not a field genral, he's not a good pocket passer, he's not a gunslinger, and he cant run. One would need at least one strength in those catergories to be a backup.

In the history of the Ravens franchise, they have had 2 back up QB's that I felt good about. Randal Cunningham and Trent Dilfer.

There were 587 others who were disasters waiting to happen.

I'm glad that Ozzie is staying away from the QB Scrap Heap Musical Chairs. I'd rather have young, new talent as a back up than the Sage Rosenfells of the world. If he were trotting out on the field, my feelings would be "Oh No..."

By constantly trying to find a back up from the draft, they at least have the door open that they may find and develop a winner.

That can't happen going to the Scrap Heap. :nono: No winners there...ever. :nono: They are there because they lose.

There are 32 teams in the league...it's semi QB starved....these guys can't find a starting job on the horrible teams. So...do you want one comming in for the Ravens with the playoffs or a game on the line?

Not me.

Not unless there is another Dilfer or Cunningham available and I don't see one.

Vmax Ray Rice will not be forgotten, trust me when I say that.

If your starting QB goes down for the playoffs its over anyway, waste of money to try and have an expensive backup at that position unless it's one of about 5 guys who could make an argument for starting... But those guys go places where they can compete to start (see Flynn in Seattle), we won't get one.
