  1. I think this year will tell the tale, he will be well set in Todd's system, study film to see what defenses are doing. With Henry, the backers will have to step up, or freeze in place for a beat which should open the middle up more, a place Lamar is most accurate and where Bateman & Flowers flourish

  2. Lamar was still adjusting to becoming a pocket passer, so he often didn't get to his 3rd read, Bateman.

I expect that to be much better this year. It wasn't just Bateman that was open often and not thrown the ball, there were times when Lamar locked in on one side of the field, and missed open guys on the other.

He has been great when he can throw on time, but he tended to lock in when the timing was off.

  3. First Higgins requests a trade, now their best pass rusher, Trey Hendricksen wants out too, despite getting $14 mil and $15 mil this season and next.

He has been a Ravens killer, would be glad to have him gone from that team (and on the Ravens)

Hendrickson has non-guaranteed base salaries of $14.8 million and $15.8 million for the next two seasons. Per the report, he is looking for more long-term security and the Bengals have not been willing to fulfill that desire.  Hendrickson has spent the last three seasons in Cincinnati and he’s posted 39.5 sacks in 48 regular season games. He also had 3.5 sacks on the way to Super Bowl LVI, but his next sacks could come in another uniform if the Bengals decide that it’s best to part ways now.

  4. I've seen mocks have 5 qbs go in the top 5. Wow, that would be a waste.

History tells us that only 2 of the top 5 qbs in a draft will work out, at best.

I cannot believe JJMcCarthy is a first round qb, no way.

Nor Nix nor Penix, both struggle reading complex coverages, at least Nix can scramble a bit.

  5. Bateman extended, good move, takes a while to recover from Lis Franc, he will break out this year... 3 years, $15 mil, great deal, if true, (the 5th year option due next week is $14 mil for 1 year)

    Per Espn

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Wide receiver Rashod Bateman is staying in Baltimore, after all.  Bateman reached a two-year extension with the Ravens on Wednesday, which keeps the former first round pick in Baltimore through the 2026 season, the team announced. This surprising move was made eight days before the Ravens had to make a decision on whether to exercise Bateman's fifth-year option.

  6. Ladd, good, very good receiver, great hands, smart player who understands where to go against defenses to get open. Runs well after the catch.

However, he has missed numerous games, not finished games because of a back problem.

He may have a nice career as a slot receiver, but I would rather that be on another team, let them take the chance that he can stay healthy.

  7. Eric on who he thinks will be the next break out player like Brandon Stephens was, was quite telling, perhaps.

He said Bateman, that they feel they had too many receivers last year to get him the ball. But they feel comfortable this year with Bateman, Zay, Mark and Isaiah.

So, maybe he is telling the truth, and they will NOT, go after a receiver via trade, nor reach for one in the draft.

However, this could also be a smoke screen, Bateman is on the final year of his rookie deal, pick up his option or not in a week and a half...

Now, Bateman looks great in his work out video, now going on year two removed from the Lis Frank injury, a time when most who suffered this injury usually rebound.

    Should be interesting.

  8. I don't know that the "quality of player" is that great once you get outside the top 12 or so. Thus, moving up would be, essentially  a waste, given how much it would cost to move that high, or even to move up to the mid 20's to nab a player you can essentially get at 30.

If anything, I would hope that they move back, gain an extra pick or two if there is nothing obvious about who is there at 30.

They lost a lot of free agents, many of them role players, some, special teams players and they need to replace them, cheaply

I think they're in a self-destruct mode. That has to rate as one of the worst trades in NFL history.

Maybe, he is over 30 now, a time when many/most slow down. Without his speed, is he worth paying the last two years of a $90 mil contract?

Better to get rid of one a year early than a year late.

Maybe, likely the best deal that they could get considering

  10. Meh, window, smindow, can Stone continue to play at that level, without the schemes and players to back him?

How about Queen, is he that good, that Smith next to him good, with out Smith next to him?

A better offensive line, better understanding of the offensive system, more comfortable with it too boot, means the offense will be at least as good, if nor better.

They were already one of the top teams in the league in redzone efficiency, at Henry to the back field, yeah let's  party.

Last year the defense had a number of injuries in the secondary, some, many of those players are not just back healthy, but get to go through an off season where they can rest and train, not recover from surgery.

Yeah, call me optimistic about the defense being better, not just as good.

So a closed window? Yawn, over speak, dead season speak just to get clicks.

  11. And a few more

ORLANDO, Fla. -- NFL owners agreed Tuesday to move the trade deadline back one week to the Tuesday after Week 9 and authorized a significant expansion to the league's replay assist program.  Three penalty categories -- intentional grounding, roughing the passer and hits out of bounds -- were added to the list of plays replay assist can advise officials on

  12. More changes approved

In addition to approving a rule change allowing for replay reviews to see if the game clock expired before a snap, the NFL announced on Tuesday that reviews of rulings that a quarterback was down or out of bounds are also going to be allowed.

The Competition Committee proposed that rule change and it was approved by a vote of teams at the league meetings in Florida. 24 of 32 teams must approve a change for it to take effect.

Reviews to see if a quarterback was down or out of bounds were already allowed, but they were not permitted to overturn an incorrect ruling the other way by officials. This will now change and the new rule says that a completed pass will stand if replay shows the officials were wrong, but no yardage gained after the catch will be added to the play.

If the pass is incomplete, the down will still count but the offense will not lose any yardage that they would have under the original ruling

  13. NFL owners have approved a rule proposal to ban the swivel hip-drop tackle, the league announced Monday.

The violation will result in a 15-yard penalty if flagged in games, but Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, strongly implied last week that it is likely to be enforced similarly to the "use of helmet" rule, which typically leads to warning letters and fines in the week after a game rather than flags during play
