Gruden basically gone.

If word on the street is true Gruden is all but gone, just a question of which deal is the sweetest.

COACHING UPDATE: The buzz out of Washington continues to be that Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is the top choice to be the capital city's head coach, but he apparently left Wednesday's interview without an announcement amid reports there is a potential "tug-of-war," for his services with the Titans, as reported by The Washington Post via ProFootballTalk.com

Gruden met with Tennessee on Tuesday and is reportedly meeting with the Vikings Thursday. Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer met with the Vikings in Cincinnati Wednesday before heading to Nashville Thursday to meet with the Titans. Tennessee is reportedly going slow and appears to have other interviews lined up.

Every year I get my hopes up that someone will take Zimmer from you guys and every year i'm disappointed. He must be a terrible interview because his defenses are always impressive.

Guys like Dan Snyder who want full personnel control and are too close to how the team side runs dont want him because he is a hard nosed old school coach and won't put up with that crap.

And quite wishing our Defense to suck! lol

Gruden apparently prefers the Tenn. job, but Washington is apparently going to make an offer that'll be hard to pass up.

BTW: Gruden has been to 3 playoff games as an OC and his offense has only scored 2 TDs. #Whybadteamsstaybad

If he doesn't want to destroy his career he will take the Titans job even if it is less pay.

Gruden’s coordinators expected to come from current Redskins staff

In 2009, Jay Gruden served as the offensive coordinator on head coach Jim Haslett’s coaching staff with the UFL’s Florida Tuskers.

It looks like the two men will be working together again, although the roles may be reversed. Gruden has agreed to become the head coach of the Redskins and Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports reports Haslett is expected to remain in the defensive coordinator job he’s had in Washington for the last four years.

Adam Schefter of ESPN, meanwhile, reports former Buccaneers head coach and current Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris is a possibility for the defensive coordinator post. Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports Haslett “could be” the choice and that both coaches are candidates to remain with the team so it remains to be seen how things play out in the end.

Haslett’s unit closed well as the Redskins took the 2012 NFC East title, but, like most of the Redskins, the group isn’t coming off its best season. The Redskins finished the 2013 season ranked 30th in the league in points allowed and they ranked 18th in yards allowed as Washington slumped to the 3-13 record that opened the door for Gruden’s arrival.

Schefter also reports that the offensive coordinator on Gruden’s first staff is also expected to be a holdover from Mike Shanahan’s staff. Tight ends coach Sean McVay is expected to get promoted to the coordinator position and is familiar with Gruden after spending the 2009 season on that Tuskers staff as a wide receivers and quarterbacks coach. He is the grandson of former NFL coach and executive John McVay.

I wonder if he is being told who his assistants will be.

Hue Jackson expected to become Bengals’ offensive coordinator

With Jay Gruden headed to Washington, the Bengals are in need of a new offensive coordinator. They apparently won’t be looking far.

Hue Jackson, whose current title in Cincinnati is special assistant to head coach Marvin Lewis and running backs coach, is expected to take Gruden’s place as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator, according to Albert Breer of NFL Network.

Jackson has plenty of experience as an offensive coordinator, having held that title in the NFL in Oakland, Atlanta and Washington (as well as in college at USC and Cal). He was also the Raiders’ head coach in 2011.

Promoting Jackson would be a sign that head coach Marvin Lewis wants to more or less stay the course with the Bengals’ offense, rather than make a major shakeup by bringing in an outsider. And as Lewis has said he still has faith in Andy Dalton as the starting quarterback, Jackson’s most important task will be getting more out of Dalton, who turned in an enormously disappointing game in the Bengals’ season-ending loss on Sunday.

You maybe have scored a really good replacement
