Edsall has to go

Terps down 35-0 and it's still the 1st half.

Yea...the players are playing touch football but he letting it happen.

His team was not ready for this game. They are being outperformed, out coached, no defense....no offense....

They suck.

It's not like Maryland is a small school. They have 587,000 students. They should be able to put together a great team out of that.

Oh no doubt. I said it to my friends up in CT, Husky fans who were not happy he left, who lucky they were he did and how miserable MD fans would be....

He is a terrible coach, surrounds him self with lesser talent at coaching to make him self look better. This is abismal where the Terps football program has gone. They don't teach the kids how to play their positions properly, even when they do get a decent recruit. Quite the shambles.

Edsall is going nowhere. Dwayne Haskins is a program changing recruit who has the influence to bring in other top recruits. Haskins is the reason why Edsall got the extension. Until Haskins signs on signing day the program is going to be on edge. Now if Haskins flips, the Edsall extension will have backfired.

UMD has the potential to be a national program in the Big Ten East. Location, academics, conference, TV network, and now the new indoor practice facility. Kevin Plank wants to be to UMD what Phil Knight is to Oregon. Remember, Plank originally wanted Mike Leach. I was talking to a Terp fan and he mentioned if Chip Kelly ever separates from the Eagles, he could be a guy Plank pushes the Terps to get.

Well I was dead wrong. Edsall is likely to be fired after the OSU game. Only one year left on his original deal, his extension only has $500K guaranteed. Big move here for the Terps. Even bigger risk with Haskins.

Yeah, they should have waited for the season to end. Maybe make a run at Chip Kelly..... :bleh:

Terps need to get back into the acc where they belong,

From a recruiting stand point, they should stay in the Big 10, or is it 12.... any who...... The ACC is limited in tv revenue, /exposure, the the Big 10 has more options, Also, the ACC is limited in the types of players who will go there and the best ones, group wise, go to Miami, FSU, GT, and now Duke.

MD just needs a real coach who can not only recruit well, but teach players how to play the game, the positions, properly. Edsall was not that guy. He had one good year in CT, caught lightening in a bottle, and jumped ship right after. That should have spoken loudly to MD officials, but they wanted to make a splash and now it has cost them.

The Fridge is the type of coach they need, one who can teach as well as coach. There is some one out there like him, MD just needs to find him and properly research. This is why I don't understand firing him now, unless they have already done the research and have their guy.

Easy explanation. The donors and alumni aren't putting any money up right now. They make the decisions, and with the new complex looming, they're making this one with their checkbooks.

If the athletic department had its way, Edsall would absolutely finish out the season, especially with the extension fresh on our minds. But it doesn't work that way.

Winning brings recruits, not so sure about the TV revenue, we do have the ACC channel on our local network, and college football is absolutely #1 in the south. Every Saturday is equalivent to a super bowl Sunday here.

Back to MD, firing edsell mid season and telling the man the week prior that after ohio state your gone, is bad publicity.if I'm being pursued by the terps I'm going elsewhere.

Talent starts at the high school level I love the daily paper here on Tuesdays they recap all the central Florida players in the NFL, pretty entertaining read. High school football in MD is bland, majority of football games here are played Friday nights under the lights. The other thing in our paper is they highlight the stud high schooler and their verbal commitments to division 1 schools.

Until MD improves at the high school level the Terps will be second fiddle in the Big 10, if money is more important then national embarrassment, then maybe the President and athletic director need to be investigated.

Crav, it is at every school. Bottom line says they have to make money or end up like SMU, or UAB, who had last minute saves by former alums with an influx of money.

Disagree with you 100%, Crav. Yes, money was a big part of the equation, but the school's AD was deep in the red. The ACC has some excellent academic schools, but outside of UNC and UVA, UMD did not have much in common with any of the other schools. The conference had compromised some of its academic values with recent expansion. I also think UMD was tired of being controlled by the Carolina schools who brought nothing to the table from a football standpoint, which is the ultimate money maker.

Now UMD is in a conference mostly comprised of fellow large, public flagship, AAU universities. The Big Ten's Committee on Institutional Cooperation brings in millions of dollar's worth of research.

As I said above, football is king. Outside of Clemson, FSU and maybe G-Tech, ACC football is weak from a brand perspective. Home attendance is no comparison. Fan base travel is weak to the northeast even for the schools I mentioned above. UMD has already sold out games against Michigan, OSU and MSU. And the PSU game in Baltimore might sellout. Terps also had a near sellout against Iowa last year, and I'm sure the Wisconsin game this year will have a good crowd. It had been ages since UMD had a sellout. Big Ten schools have an enormous alum presence in the northeast.

The new practice facility doesn't happen if the Terps stay in the ACC. Crav, take a look at UMD's recent recruiting classes. They have been excellent. In the past, PSU would pick the midatlantic clean because they played in one of the top conferences. Now even Rutgers is fighting PSU and getting great recruits from the area.

The PSU/UMD rivalry has enormous potential to be a national must watch. The two teams recruit the same areas, the two fan bases already hate each other because of Ravens/Steelers or Redskins/Eagles, and the campuses are within travel distance.

Going back to the money, wait until the Big Ten's TV contract comes up for renegotiation within the next couple of years. Both the SEC and B1G timed the contracts perfectly where they will be able to negotiate an enormous deal for its schools. The rest of the conferences are locked in long term to network friendly deals, and will he left behind from a revenue perspective.

You can disagree all you want, MD cannot and will not compete in the Big 10 ,12 or whatever they think they are in, and today's game was a fucking joke, ohio st played with them

That's the point. They don't need to compete in the Big 10, especially not immediately. Being in the Big 10 itself makes them a better and more attractive sell.

So then hang up signs over campus, We're only in it for the money.

Cleet MD/PSU already was thing, we played each other yearly in the 70's and 80's. If I'm not mistaken MD opted out, because we could never compete with Joe Pa's teams. We were 1-23 vs PSU

To build on Force's point, UMD wasn't competing in the ACC either. So it's better being bad in the B1G and hosting top fifteen teams and selling out to road crowds than being bad in the ACC in front of empty stadiums and getting bad recruits. In basketball UMD has already seen the reach of being in a national conference with its recruiting classes, and is now a legitimate national championship contender.

To get better you have to play better competition. So I'm not just disagreeing with you, I'm saying you're wrong.

As for the PSU "rivalry", who was UMD's rival in the ACC again? I seem to remember the "you're not our rival" chant being quite popular among UVA, Duke and UNC fans. Sure, rivalries take time to develop. But neither PSU nor Rutgers have true rivals like UVA, Duke, UNC and even WVU already had. UMD has a similar student body academically and demographically as PSU and Rutgers, and athletically the three schools heavily recruit the same midatlantic region.

Edsall fired, if I'm being recruited by MD, I'm going to FSU,

Why? MD has a quarterback, a dual threat one at that; the kid can play, he just needs help... and a good coach.... Who is going to be the next coach?

Bret Bielema maybe? He could be in hot water down there with that very disappointing season for the Razor Backs....

Did Charlie Strong do enough by winning the Red River rivalry, or would he be a good choice?

Greg Shiano, would he come out from behind the desk and would he be a good fit?

Maybe just maybe Shawn Paeyton would move to the college ranks?

Kyle Shanahan would be a great fit; offensive mind, NFL expereince to lean on, would he leave the Falcons?

Steve Sarkisian is burning his bridges at USC. Doubt it would ever happen, but Coach Ken from Navy would be an interesting choice.

USC fired him a little while ago..... Hadden should be next.....

George O'Leary just stepped back from the AD role at SFU, but will still coach them for now. I wonder, I know he wanted to rebuild that program, but the man can still coach & teach the game, would he come back to the ACC, ooops, would he come to MD.....

Bad timing for UMD, USC and SC will be open jobs, and Arkansas and Texas will possibly be open as well. Texas and USC are top five jobs in the country and will surely attract big names (Chip Kelly).

If UMD wants to look south, the Memphis, Houston and SMU head coaches are solid prospects.
