World Cup Soccer

In our score predictor in work I have the US backed to win 1-0 against Ghana. However, I like what I have saw from Uruguay and while that is a winnable game for the US should they beat Ghana I will be backing Uruguay.

Now watch South Korea go and beat Uruguay and throw a spanner in the works.

Great Vid..Yeah its amazing, even thought I knew the outcome, I still had that same reaction watching the replay of the game.

Some idiot that I guess is not a fan put up how the WC is being smashed in the ratings by stupid shows like Pawn Stars and Pickers.

Duuuuhh, he failes to realize that the games are being played at 9:30 EST during the week while 90% of america is doing something called W-O-R-K.

Wait til today, I guarantee the ratings will be up there.

I got up early today and turned on the Uruguay vs. South Korea match. Not as easy for me to watch as when the American team is on the field.

Ghana just beat us up and down the field for the majority of that game... just showed us what real speed, athleticism and soccer skill can do. Made our defense look silly quite often. And by comparison, made our offense look feeble too.

Just glad it is done. Now maybe the sport will be ignored by the US media.

Not until the World Cup is over. I see either Brazil or Germany winning it all.

Wow, the world cup has come alive now. Great performances are being put in now with Argentina and Germany looking good and some really bad refereeing decisions being made that creates a great talking point. People are going mad about the non use of video technology and how the idiot in charge of FIFA needs to get his head out of his arse and sort it out.

I can't wait for the Spain Portugal game. Should be one of the best last 16 ties.

Back in town after traveling; I spent the last week-plus of group play in chicago area, got used to having my daughter wake up in the hotel room to the sound of vuvuzelas and me staring at the tv in earnest. I wasn't confident at the beginning that the US would make it out of the group, they got lucky IMO to do just that, given that they have severe early-game deficiencies (those finally caught up with them vs. Ghana), so I'm not really disappointed in their accomplishments, they're still learning how to compete at the world-class level. I saw the Ghana match in a Morgantown bar PACKED with 'fans', and when on the next afternoon I went to the same bar for more soccer, that bar was EMPTY. Most USA fans are not soccer fans, that's understandable. That speaks really to why our national team is the way it is. Meanwhile, Germany-Argentina looks like the match of the Cup so far.

Uruguay vs Ghana was relatively exciting to watch. Well at the end anyway. As far as Germany, the appear to be the class of the field.

Germany had nothing today, very weak effort. Even without Mueller they should have been pressing more, but they couldn't muster sustained attack, or really much of any attack. Spain played well, but I think this had more to do with the youth of the German team flinching. anyway, the Dutch will be a better opponent for Spain. And Uruguay maybe as well for Germany.

I think we actually saw a little more clearly what makes Spain so good... they have a strong attack when they truly need it - Torres should have scored if he got the ball late - but it is their defense and consistency front-to-back that makes them troubling.

I think Spain-Netherlands will be an amazing game to watch. The Netherlands super-organized attack vs. Spain's super-organized defense. Spain's speedy, score-at-any-moment attack vs. the Dutch solid but bendable backline...

Spain 2, Dutch 0.

Yes, congrats to spain, who many felt rightly was the best team going into this Cup. I confess I thought really germany and brazil seemed to have the most going for them (including history) and was rooting for the Dutch (despite history). I was happy Iniesta got the finals-winning goal, after failing to pull the trigger twice earlier in the game when he clearly had it on foot. I also got really sick of Robben's ref-lobbying. It was an ugly final, but it went to the right team in the end. I think mostly with this Cup I was impressed with Uruguay, disappointed with Italy, and yet again shrugged at the US team.

Thank god thats over, now Americans can stop pretending to give a crap about soccer. I swear I dont know how anyone can possibly watch people run around for 90 minutes just to see one goal. 90 minutes to see 1 point.

I'd spend 90 minutes to score once. Only with a chick though.

Thats the beauty of soccer, points are overrated.

excitement, and the use of upper-bodies is also overrated in soccer. Im sorry to rain on the thread with negativity but I seriously do not get any thrill from watching it. Even a tie in regualtion forceing OT for the world cup finals is not enough to get me to tune in. Id rather watch old fresh prince episodes on TBS. Remember when Will gave Carlton speed instead of asprin? Hilarious

On July 6, self-proclaimed #1 Dutch porn star Bobbi Eden made a promise to all her Twitter followers that if her national team, the Netherlands, won the 2010 World Cup Final game, she would perform oral sex on all of said followers.

She has 108,000 mad followers.

I dont mind the lack of scoring, its the lack of overall scoring chances that ends up boring me. If there was a lot of action by the goals I'd be more interested even if the scores were the same. I think Spain had one shot in the first half yesterday and the Dutch had 3.

I like the tournament structure and think they are great athletes (and actors!) but I just dont enjoy the game itself. Oh well everyone likes different things.
