We may see more trades and RFA deals this year
thundercleetz replied to vmax's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Another guy to keep an eye on is Nate Burleson of the Seahawks. He is an UFA and put up very solid numbers in only 13 games (63 catches, 812 yards and 3 TDs). -

That is a good point, but on the flip side Demaryius Thomas/Gilyard/LaFell are not proven 80-100-catch, 1000-1400-yard, around 8 TD guys. Boldin's ankle injury was a fluke injury, nothing chronic. Like I stated, his value is probably a second round pick, maybe a little less. For that, I think it would be worth the risk. -

I would guess that Boldin's value has dropped since last year because of injuries, he is in the last year of his deal (less leverage), and will turn 30 in the middle of this upcoming season. I would think a first rounder would be way too much. Possibly he could be acquired for a second rounder? Or maybe even for a Willis McGahee-type deal, a third this year and a third next year? I think either of those would be fair. Remember, we acquired TO back in 2004 when he was 30-years old for a second rounder (he would turn 31 that season, so he was a year older than Boldin is this year). I would guess that would be the most we would offer. -

I would be very happy with a WR corp of Boldin, Mason, Stallworth, Clayton, and a high round rookie (could be a tight-end like Gresham). Give us a receiver that can make plays like this and we will be just fine (fast forward to :45): http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d814c59c2/WK-13-Anquan-Boldin-highlights -

If it turns out to be true I'll take all the credit for it. -
I believe we also had the most road playoff wins?

Two posts from very reputable posters over on the Ravens board at the OH: Here is a quote from a guy who is an insider, his info is usually pretty legit. Take all this with a grain of salt, of course. But if we got Boldin for the right price, I would be extremely happy. -
I am scared to ask what you think about Ray Lewis.
-
I would without a doubt give Mason two years.
-
I am just saying, this guy over on the OH is legit in his info. He says TO is definitely in play. Take it for what it is worth.
-
Dont laugh crav but there is an insider over on the Ravens OH board that says TO is definitely a target. He also said that Mason is going to test free agency and is not a lock to come back to us.
-
That is probably a good comparison, except Stallworth has had much better production than Johnson. Lets just hope that Stallworth has better hands than Pat. I still say Pat would have been a solid receiver had he had any hands, but then again, so would have Travis Taylor...

You are now putting words in my mouth, I never said it was an excusable or acceptable behavior. I completely agree with you, it is something one should NEVER do under any circumstance, but drunk driving is not as black and white as you think. Force, you said you do not drink, so I am not sure if you would understand completely. I would say most drunk driving accidents do not happen when someone who is completely tanked decides to get behind the wheel. I would say a lot of these accidents happen with drivers who honestly think and feel they are OK and sober, at that point it not a right or wrong I am a bad person-type decision like you put it. Stallworth woke up from a five hour sleep and decided to go get breakfast. I seriously doubt he thought "I'm drunk" when he got behind the wheel. I am not trying to justify what he did, I am just saying he is not a malicious killer like you state. Would I feel different if he had killed someone I loved? Probably. But Stallworth is not a bad person. I actually see this as a Kelly Washington-type move. It will not be a huge one, but he will contribute in some way. Ozzie said they worked out Stallworth, and he still has the physical skills that made him a high round draft pick. Defense cannot take that type of world class speed lightly. Get him into workouts, get him in shape, and have him work with Joe. Stallworth took a year off of football so he should be relatively fresh. The big thing with Stallworth is that, like many fast guys, he is too fast for his own good. He has been pleagued with hamstring problems his whole career, but lets hope the time off and starting workouts early will prepare him for a 16 game season.

You would be pretty naive if you did not recognize how many people make the mistake of driving when they shouldn't be on a daily basis. Whether it be sleepy, drunk, buzzed, tipsy, whatever.

Sources: Chargers shopping Cromartie for RB?
thundercleetz replied to SpearSrai's topic in NFL General
You are absolutely right about Cromartie's attitude and work ethic. Like I said, it would be a risk, but I think it would be justified. Look at Willis McGahee, Harbaugh turned him around. Willis was in excellent shape this season and a complete team player. Playing in a Ravens defense tends to motivate people. -
You are right, there is a difference between someone with bad character and what happened to Stallworth. Someone with bad character is habitually bad, thus they are constantly vulnerable to getting in trouble. Stallworth is a guy with a clean past who made one bad mistake. Like BMoreHon said, many of us have made this exact same mistake, we just got lucky. Stallworth is not a habitually bad person. And how is he a bona-fide killer? He killing was not malicious in any way. It is not like he is going to drive drunk and purposely kill someone again. He paid his price to society.

I do not think it is ability that makes him a bad tackler, just his effort. He obviously has the tools to be an excellent tackler, the instincts are there are well. Maybe putting him in the Ravens defense will give him some attitude as Ray, the guys, and the rest of the coaches will definitely make him accountable for his play. Is it a risk? Yes. But I think it is a good one. As for Foxworth, his tackling got substantially better as the year went on. -
Ravens' Top Needs Going into the Draft
thundercleetz replied to nfldraft2010's topic in Baltimore Ravens
What I am saying is that the prospects of getting that alpha receiver is unrealistic. So our best bet would be to get three #2-type guys. Floyd, Mason, and a high draft pick could solve that (and now possibly Stallworth?). -
This is a low risk, potentially high reward-type of deal. As long as Stallworth is in shape and still has his world class speed, this could be a really good move. I wouldn't expect huge numbers from him, but if he can connect with Joe for a big play or two a game, his speed will keep defenses honest. More than anything this move tells me that Ozzie is serious about finding talent at wide receiver and is exploring all routes to get that job done.

I'll take him. Two years ago Cromartie was the Revis of this league. Put him in a good defense like ours that is not helpless against the run and he becomes an elite cornerback again. Lets make the move! -
Ravens' Top Needs Going into the Draft
thundercleetz replied to nfldraft2010's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Exactly my point, he is not a #1 guy, but he is a solid part of solving our WR equation. -
Granted he has a young Ray Lewis playing behind him in Patrick Willis that commands a lot of the defense's attention. But yes, he has developed into a solid player.
-
McNabb to the Vikes is a real possibility if Favre retires. It makes perfect sense, McNabb has played under Childress's system his whole career. There would really be no learning curve. Anyways, I think Pennington would be a real good backup and mentor for Joe if the price was right.

Ravens' Top Needs Going into the Draft
thundercleetz replied to nfldraft2010's topic in Baltimore Ravens
I think Malcom Floyd or Antonio Bryant would be very solid acquisitions who would not break the bank. Like I said, add in Mason, Clayton, and a couple of high round draft picks at WR and Joe will make this thing happen. This will be Joe's third year in the offense, he should know it like the back of his hand. He know his potential, it is limitless in the right situation, we saw it in the first half of the season. The next step Joe needs to take is making audibles at the line and doing a lot of the little things like changing the snap count and pointing out blitzes on his own. Joe's numbers are certainly on par with most of the elite QBs in this league throught their first two seasons, those guys took this step in their third year, I expect Joe to do so as well. It all comes down to Ozzie getting Joe talent to work with. We have the line and the runningbacks, we just need some receivers. Do not worry max, I am sure Ozzie will get it done.
