Has Billick commentated on a Rams game this season? I would love to hear him commentate with Kyle Boller playing.

This is very sad. It seems the guy had really turned his life around and was staying out of trouble. RIP

I love the Gonzalez signing, he has been solid his whole career and has experience closing in Pittsburgh. The question is how will he transition to pitching in the AL? Atkins is a low risk-high reward type player. I love how this is a one-year deal, it clears the path for Bell. And Atkins also has experience at first base should Bell force his way to the majors earlier then expected.

2009-2010 Offseason/Spring Training Thread

Here are some rumor updates: I know this is never likely to happen, but imagine if we got both Holliday and Gonzalez! I think a package of Arrieta, Britton, Pie, Snyder, and possibly Scott could get the deal done for Gonzalez. Imagine a lineup of this: 2B. Roberts RF. Markakis LF. Holliday 1B. Gonzalez C. Wieters CF. Jones DH. Reimold 3B. Atkins (later Bell) SS. Izturis I can dream, can't I? If we want to contend, this is the type of lineup it will take. We have money and prospects to spend, this would definitely be the way to spend it! By the way, the Cards right now are the only serious bidder for Holliday. Their offer is currently at five-years, $80 million. I think we could beat that. Of course, if we get Holliday, we are going to have to shift into contention mode, in which we should make an immediate play for Gonzalez as well. Holliday in Oakland did't do too well being "the man" in the lineup, but he excelled hitting next to Pujols in the lineup. If we could get Gonzalez and Holliday, our lineup would be able to contend with the big boys in the division. It would certainly attract people to the Yard too. -

I don't want to see Washington injured, for he is a guy I think could step up if he was given more PT. However, like max said, this will be a huge opportunity for Williams and Harper. Williams is exactly what this offense needs, a big, fast deep threat who attacks the ball in the air. Maybe even more impressive then his deep catch was the catch on the sideline for a first down. He caught the ball with his hands and got his feet in, we are not used to having hands catchers on this team, Mason, Clayton, and Washington are all body catchers. Can D-Will step up? A receiver like D-Will stepping up could determine if we go to the playoffs or not.

Ray Lewis doesn't care: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/blog/2009/12/ray_lewis_not_interested_in_billicks_return.html

Thanks for the insider info Colin! As a Tulane student, I root for Matt Forte whenever I can. Too bad his offensive line has been absolutely terrible for him this season. As good as Forte is, we should be able to stop the running game, and at that point it will not be very hard to get Cutler to throw some INTs.

Completely agree. I think things are fine the way they are.
-
I think this kind of thing is typical for this time of year. I would expect JJ, Suggs, Ngata, and Birk to play, maybe Gaither and Washington. Reed will probably sit out again and try to play against Pittsburgh. Clayton can sit for the rest of the season for all I care.

BTW, does anyone think that Oher could win offensive ROY? I mean no rookie on offense is tearing it up, and with the media exposure Oher has gotten, it could be possible.

Rice won the Steelers game for us. Other than that, all of our wins have been blowouts (save the Chargers). In our loses it was more Cam's fault for not running the ball then Rice not getting the yardage. And even then, it is not all completely Rice's fault, the line is to blame as well. But you are right, if there is one area Rice needs to improve upon, it is his short yardage/goaline running. He is very explosive, so he should get better. You could say the same thing about guys like MJD and Chris Johnson, these guys are more gamebreakers then grinders. Chris Johnson leads the league in rushing, but his team has nine loses. MJD is kind of similar to Rice. Anyways, there is nothing wrong with Rice being spelled by a bigger back. There is a reason why we have a 265-yard fullback.

Good stuff from Ogden! I don't care who plays at LT and who plays at RT, I just want to see both Gaither and Oher on the field together for a long time!

Ray doesn't take a lot of punishment though. He has a low center of gravity, it is hard to get a good lick on him. Ray currently has less than 200 carries on the season (tied for 15th in the league). Then you have to consider that a lot of his runs are on the outside with him going against corners and safeties, or being pushed out of bounds. Yeah, he has 68 receptions, but it is the same deal, he is going up against corners and safeties on these receptions. Ray does not take nearly the amount of punishment that guys like Benson, Peterson, Mendenhall, Jackson, or Grant take.

And next time you better bring a note from your parents!

I would love to have AD back in a supporting role. But I am sure he would love to go to the Jets, not only reunite with Rex but get to play the Pats twice a year. -
Ray has much better numbers than Benson, and I think Benson is in the same boat as Ray Rice as far as fan voting goes. Benson really only had that three week run on media exposure. I would say Ray Rice has caughten up. Ray was really impressive in SNF against the Browns and MNF against the Steelers. I think MJD and Chris Johnson are locks. Thomas Jones is the guy who is going to challenge Ray for the third spot.
-
The thing I think Ray Rice has going for him is he has definitely caught the attention of his fellow players and the coaches. He leaves an impression on every team we play. The media attention is starting to catch up. About the stats, the scary thing is that Ray is only 22 and in his second season. He may be only scratching the surface of what he can do. Who knows, maybe 1000 yards rushing, 1000 yards receiving is in Ray's future. I definitely believe that Ray will become a bigger TD threat next year if Willis leaves. Having gotten enough of a feel for Ray's game, I see him as a Brian Westbrook/Marshall Faulk hybrid. He has Westbrook's low center of gravity and quickness, and he has Marshall's vision, ability to stop and start on a dime, and is a horse who can take a full workload. And like both guys, Ray is a great receiver. This is where Ray will definitely improve as he will learn to play as a receiver being flexed out and finding holes in the zone.

So as long as Manning is standing upright, the Colts should take care of the Jags.

Week 15 is way too early to start benching your players. At that point you are risking losing your momentum and rythm going into the playoffs. I could maybe understand the last two weeks of the season, but resting players week 15 would essentially give your guys four bye weeks in a row.
-
Don't worry, geo, I am sure that Ozzie, Harbaugh, Matsko, and Cam realize Gaither's value. We will pay him.
-
Remember that we played the Lions. Gaither has had a very good season save last Monday. I recommend you to read these posts: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=118&f=1666&t=5239025 http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=118&f=1666&t=5190748

Barnes did a good job of providing pressure. It was good to see Barnes and D. Williams contributing out there with some big plays.

DEMETRIUS!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS WHAT WE NEED AT WR!!!!!

Wow, Schaub has 338 yards passing in the third round! I guess it is pretty easy when you can just chuck it up to Andre Johnson.
