I do not think it would have been extreme at all. Harrison did not knock the offensive player down once, but twice, THEN he punched him, and THEN pushed him again. Harrison's actions had nothing to do with the ongoing play, it is not like Harrison was trying to block someone until the whistle blows. The actions went beyond a single personal foul and were clearly malignant. I always thought whenever a clear punch is thrown, that is an automatic ejection. Harrison clearly punched the offensive player, that was not a shove. I doubt this is taken into consideration, but Harrison's penalty had a net change of a mere yard.
-
Add that to the fact that there was a 15-yard penalty on the field which would have given the Cards a really good shot at the endzone. ESPN.com's Mike Sando believes that Harrison should have been ejected from the game for his personal foul, I tend to agree with him.

We have a winner in this thread!

<_< Alright, that's pretty funny  In relation to the topic, I am just glad that today is the last day of the season. After today, the pain from our loss will go away a little bit, even if the Steelers win because it is time to move on. If the Cardinals win, the pain will go away completely. At least for me. Either way, I am just ready for all the fun of the offseason to begin!

You are right, the Bucs have $45 million in cap space, and they really want him back. I just hope Spear is right, and Bryant realizes that he could be a primary receiver on a team one win away from the Super Bowl with an emerging quarterback. This blogger from the St. Petersburg Times says the same thing: http://blogs.tampabay.com/bucs/2009/01/bucs-working-to.html

Alphonso Smith and Hakeem Nicks would both be excellent picks at this stage of the projections, in my opinion.

That is basically the whole article, with the rest of it explaining the math behind the projections.

What do you guys think about Antonio Bryant? He is young (27), has great hands, leaping ability, fights for balls, and is a true deep threat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMlN2I7B_oE...feature=related

Ravens' Flacco eager to keep learning
thundercleetz replied to cravnravn's topic in Baltimore Ravens
This article is a testament to why I believe we will not see a fall off next season, like after our 13-3 season in 2006 and our 10-6 season in 2003. When you have a franchise QB, it brings so much consistency to your team, you are going to compete at a consistent level every season (other than the Bengals  ). I believe we are ready to move into the category of perennial contenders with teams like Pittsburgh, Indy, New England, and San Diego. I am not worried about the free agents on our defense. We have a system in place, and Ozzie is great with drafting guys that fit what we want to do and retaining the guys we need. Getting the franchise QB was the hard part, now that we have that, it will be much easier to continue to get better. -
http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2009...hill_traded.php Rich Hill for a PLTBN? Wow, great trade! Hill is a guy who only a year ago in 2007 posted 183 strike outs in 195 innings (only 63 walks), went 11-8 with a 3.92 ERA. He only started five games last season and the Cubs gave up on him. Hill is a prime candidate to be this season's Gavin Floyd. McPhail is really working! How about that?

Me too. I could always rely on it to be there for me to read while eating my pancakes at IHOP.

28. Baltimore Ravens: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
thundercleetz replied to ravinmaniac52's topic in NFL Draft
Cal Poly WR Ramses Barden http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/ins...tory?id=3843880 http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/ramsesbardeninterview.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSIhHsa8otc (Bad quality, but shows his 12 receptions for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns against Utah State) Interview: http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/ramsesbardeninterview.htm Barden is projected as a third rounder. He has a lot of talent, but he is still raw when it comes to route running. He sees himself as a Colston/Marshall-type receiver, but I think a Vincent Jackson is probably a better ceiling (someone who uses his long strides to get deep, uses his big frame to fight for balls in the air, but doesn't go inside the numbers). His worst case scenario is probably a Clarence Moore, although he is more aggressive than Clarence. James Hardy of the Bills is probably a realistic example. -
I compare myself to Joe Montana, is that allowed? :P

Lets try and steer this topic back on topic. What does everyone think about that big receiver out of Cal Poly? -

I never said he was a horrible receiver. But in comparison to Fitzgerald? Yes, he is near horrible. If you are going to say a guy has a similar skill set to an All-Pro receiver like Fitz, but never put up anywhere near the production Fitz did in college, then you have to make clear that he is nowhere in that league. Is horrible a little strong? Probably. But it makes the point. I can see the similar skill set that you mention to Fitz, but Robiskie has nowhere near the aggression that Fitz has. That is what makes Fitz so good, his ability to attack the ball in the air. -
I do not disagree with you at all. However, with one timeout, down two, and only about 4-5 minutes left, you have to think that we are in four down territory. A check down to Clayton would have gotten the first down, or close to it. It was the only time all day we had a receiver underneath as a check down for the blitz, essentially what the Steelers offense did the whole day. The Heap crossing route a few plays earlier was also the type of pattern we should have been running.
-
Nope, just me being an armchair coach
-
I have to disagree with you dc. While Flacco was not rattled per say, on his first two interceptions you can definitely see he rushed his decision making in anticipation of the blitz. He looked a little skittish when he knew the blitz was coming from the back side. The good thing is that he knew the blitz was coming, but the bad thing is he threw into bad windows. If you look at the second INT, Clayton was wide open underneath over the middle, essentially a check down. It wouldn't have been a large gain, but it was what we needed at the time only down two points. Flacco did not even look at him. While Polamalu made an excellent play on the ball not many safeties could make, the defender covering Mason certainly had a beat on the ball and would have at least broken the pass up.
-
I hope one thing that changes is the ability to switch out of the blitz. The Steelers were killing us by delaying their snap counts for us to show our blitzes. Why would we run the same blitz when we have already shown the offensive line what we are going to do? Either have another blitz to switch to on the fly or check out. That was one of the things that annoyed me the most in that Steelers game.

While I also do not think Ozzie will go crazy, it is certainly a different situation than Pashos. Pashos was an average player, Brown is an All-Pro talent who still has his best football ahead of him (this was his first full year at center since his Senior year at UNC). There is a lot more flexibility with what we can pay Brown for he deserves to be a top paid center in this league. When the Jags gave Pashos a contract comparable to a Pro-Bowl tackle, we knew he was not worth it because he was/is not a top offensive tackle. Jay Brown is definitely worth top center (even guard) money. So if Brown gets that big offer, it would be worth it for us to match. Unless the offer blows away the previously highest paid center/guard, then we are certainly justified in giving Brown top five center/guard money.

:P Is this conversation really necessary? I see both your guys points. Nest is trying to say that Robiskie has a similar skill set to Fitz. They are both big, have strong and soft hands, good jumping ability, and good route runners. There is nothing wrong with making that comparison. Nowhere does that imply the Robiskie is anywhere in the same class as Fitz. For example, those are simply Robiskie's best attributes. So what does that say about the rest of his game? It is pretty horrible. So on a larger scale Robiskie would probably be rated as having good hands, decent jumping ability, decent route running, whereas Larry coming out of college was rated as having excellent hands, jumping ability, and route running. It is just that Robiskie is bad at everything else which gives him a similar style of play to Fitz. This is all according to RavensNest of course, I am just trying to help him with his point. Anyways, I agree with Spear. Michael Jenkins is a better comparison for Robiskie. Robiskie is not nearly as aggressive as Fitz when the ball is in the air, and is thus more of a Jenkins-type receiver. Robiskie does not have a comparible YAC ability to Fitz. Once again, he is more like Jenkins, IMO. -
Brown is one of those guys that we should match whatever offer he gets, regardless. He is young, talented, and his best football is still ahead of him. You could argue that he deserves to be a top paid center in this league. Brown has stated he wants to be back, so as long as we at least match the highest offer he gets, he should be back. Jason knows that we are in a much better position than Miami or Jacksonville to make a run at the Super Bowl. While he is close with Pashos, I am sure he is just as close with the guys along our o-line. Plus, who knows how much longer Pashos will be with the Jags.

This is exactly how I see it. I do not have that same comfort that I had when Nolan took over, then when Rex took over. Both of these guys had that "up and coming" quality to them where you could see that this was a stepping stone for something bigger. I do not see that in Greg, I think he might be in over his head. We would have probably been better off just raiding the Steelers staff. I hope I am wrong though, I will give Harbaugh the benefit of the doubt.

I do not know anything about Mattison except he has big shoes to fill. Hopefully there is no drop off.

Is there any chance that Bisciotti could negotiate with the Colts to get the history back? Has such a thing ever happened?
