My two early predictions were Aiken would be the opening week starter at split end and Carter would make the team. So far so good!

Completely agree with DC... Papa you're not giving enough weight to how risky prospects are. Even a 25 HR, .280 average 1B, take Texas for example: at one point they had Chris Davis, Justin Smoak, and Mitch Mooreland, each was a top prospect and none of them panned out for the Rangers. You also mention the Bedard trade... A whole front office got fired because of that. Not the norm, that trade was the exception.
-
Who are these prospects you are talking about? Watch out Chris Davis is getting hot! A .818 OPS now!

I don't care about not trading Wieters or Davis. We'll get draft picks like we did with Nellie. Baseball is different than football because prospects and draft picks are such a crapshoot and the amount of development time is long and costly. What gets me mad is we invest the money in a prospect, take the time to develop them, they don't produce for us. We trade them only to have them become great for another team. See Arrieta. We gave this guy every chance in the world and he was absolutely terrible for us. We trade him to the Cubs and he becomes a star. He's under team control for two more years. Bad trading a cheap guy under control with talent, no matter if he's a bust or not. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched a gem for the Sox last night. Only 22-years old from the DR. We always talk about signing these international prospects and when we finally get a good one we trade him. Granted, Rodriguez was a B-level prospect for us and Andrew Miller could have won us a World Series. It's frustrating, we trade Arrieta, keep Matusz. We trade Rodriguez, keep Bundy. The guys we keep don't work out and the guys we let go become better. Hindsight is 20-20, but man does it seem like we have terrible luck with pitching prospects! There is definitely some sort of organization problem with pitching instruction. Looking at our current roster, there is no home grown talent outside of can't miss guys like Machado and Wieters. Duquette is great at finding other team's leftovers and under the radar free agents. But we have a big problem with developing home grown stars, much less serviceable players.

Real shame but watch out for DeAndre Hawkins! Another undersized receiver who's a gamer. Big time stats his last season in college: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-ravens-undrafted-rookie-wr-deandre-carter-plays-with-chip-on-my-shoulder-20150527-story.html http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=129501&draftyear=2015&genpos=WR Look at the short shuttle time (3.80!) with the vertical jump (38.5) and bench numbers (17)! Very explosive athlete! 40 is not bad either (4.44), but with that sort of quickness he probably plays a lot faster than that straight line time. If Camp is not ready to go this guy will. We need a returned too. We usually have an UDFA make the team each year, here's my pick.

We have a great group of guys with a diverse collection of skills. I'm going to predict Kamar Aiken will be the starting X with Steve Smith as the starting Z. Marlon works best out of the slot, struggles with the press. Perriman is a rookie, it might be a lot to expect him to start right away at X fighting off the press. However, I expect him to see a lot of field time when the defense is playing off, allowing him to use his speed to blow by the coverage. He's a good blocker, so we could see him in there on run downs, then utilize his speed on play action. As he get experience he'll settle into that split end role. Aiken and Smith starting at X and Z, respectively, with Perriman rotating in at the X. Campanero as a slot guy between the 20s (if healthy), with Brown working the slot in the red zone (he did a lot of this in 2013, he has a knack for finding open spots in the red zone). There should be some good competition in training camp. Jeremy Butler is a guy the Ravens are high on. Big possession receiver who had a good preseason last year. He will be ready to compete after a year in an NFL program.

Haha thanks guys!

Happy birthday Dan!

Another great start for Wright. Shame we couldn't get him some run support. Also wonder why Buck didn't challenge the play at the plate on Wright's single. It was close, certainly worth a challenge in a close game.
-
He just qualified last night officially! He's third behind De. Brown and Nellie. If we could sweep the Marlins that would be huge. We have a tough stretch coming up with two series against the red hot Astros and a series against the division leading Rays.
-
Paredes is now officially third in the league in batting. He's been huge for us this season. Once we get Schoop and Wieters back our offense will be very strong.
-
Good stuff! Thanks for the fact check He's also a big Harry Potter fan so how can we not root for him? http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/blog/bal-mike-wright-and-his-harry-potter-world-and-quotes-about-the-rookie-20150517-story.html

Since you brought up the WCO, yes, I would say he has. A TE in motion, H-Back, motioning a TE from the backfield in the shotgun to the slot, it's all the same. A 'Y' receiver (flex) can be a 6'5 250 "tight-end" or a bigger receiver like Anquan Boldin or Marlon Brown. Everything I just mentioned are traditional uses of a tight-end. It doesn't matter what the position title is of the player performing the tasks, it's the same in the playbook. Juice can do all the responsibilities listed above, all of which are traditional responsibilities of a TE. If you're asking me if he can line up in a three point stance at the LOS and block a defensive end, no he can't. So in that aspect, yes, we are taking a risk not having a vet. In all other aspects of the position, we are just fine. I'm OK with betting on Gilmore or Boyle being a serviceable blocker for us. Heck, Hurst could come in and be "TE" and block at the goaline. Title means very little, we have a diverse set of talents that can each do their part to fill the role.
-
Well if you want to get technical I'll group Juice with the TE's and say we are just fine.

Really big guy with a an impressive two-seamer that was routinely hitting the upper 90s. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he has been a relief pitcher in the minors until this season. As such, he was always projected as a relief pitcher with closer potential and did not receive the hype some of our other pitching prospects have received (this might be a good thing if you're superstitious). However, yesterday he proved he can maintain his velocity late into games. With Bud pitching poorly, and Tillman a little hurt, it can't hurt to give Wright a chance. At the very least, Wright should be able to be a big contributor to our bullpen!

Out of all the positions on the field, tight-end is probably up there about being least worried about as far as having a veteran presence.

Anybody else hear about this

Young had a noted temper as a younger player. Anyone remember this? However, from everything written about him recently seems to suggest he's calmed down a lot. I agree with DC, this was a single incident in regards to the Jewish comment. I think that incident moreso highlights his noted anger problems in the past than being a racist or bigot. -
We reached on a first round talent? We'll see how you feel when Williams grabs a TD over your 5'8" CB you drafted.
-
Won the series! Gonzo and Jiminez stepped up big time! Paredes is continuing his tear as well. One step at a time. Last year we were .500 at the end of May. Hopefully we can be above .500 this year by month's end.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/158585/recapping-rashaan-melvins-rough-game Melvin had a really rough game against the Pats. Granted it's hard to be tough on a guy who was an undrafted practice squad player, but make no doubt Brady exploited Melvin as the weak link in our secondary. As far as signing Arrington and how that affects Tray Walker: I think they will play two different roles for us. Arrington is going to play the majority of snaps for us as a nickelback. His strengths are covering the slot guy, or blitzing from the edge. Walker's going to make or break his NFL career on how efficient he is pressing receivers. If he has a strong camp, he will get time right away on the outside on the other side of Smith. Webb or Arrington don't have the ability to press receivers like Walker has, so if Walker can play, Webb and Arrington will play inside, with Walker and Smith on the outside giving us plenty of different blitzing options. On paper it's a good group with a diverse skill set.
-
Arrington is also a MD native. He grew up and went to HS in PG County.

I don't think this is a big deal.
