  1. Wow angry much? Just kidding, I know how you feel but in a different way. I'll explain: I myself am a registered Republican but there is A LOT with Tea Party I do not agree with (I consider myself more of a libertarian with a good mix of a constitutionalist). While I do admire the "party's" ability to invigorate a rapidly becoming lethargic voting base, I do not like the means they have taken to get to their ends (and the Republican party did need to get its voting base enthusiastic. Obama ran an excellent campaign in 2008 getting a record amount of people to the polls). For example, the video above I am pretty disgraced by. I think it is a low blow to say President Obama is un-American. Quite simply, he just genuinely has a different view for the direction of the country. That does not make him un-American. I myself think President Obama is a good, family guy who is a great role model to the younger generation. I think Obama has good, honest intentions for the country, I just do not agree with many of his political views. When Paul Ryan was selected as Romney's VP candidate, I think President Obama described it best, in a respectful manner, when referring to the difference in opinion: There is nothing wrong with a difference of opinion. I actually think it is healthy for the country. What I do not like is the hate that comes from both parties toward the other. I feel like there was a time when two people could have a difference of opinion and still be respectable. What made the Kennedy-Nixon debates great was how civil they were, it was a true debate of two different platforms. No media bias, no dancing around questions. I could be wrong, but I do not remember the crowds booing one candidate or the other. Both candidates presented their views for how to better the country and those who listened to the debate could make an educated informed decision. In my opinion both the conservative and liberal media have created an "us versus them" mentality that spews hate and anger. And we wonder why we are not able to reach a common ground in Congress or the Senate. There is a lot I am embarassed by with my registered party. I read a lot of uneducated, blind, and arrogant opinions out there which I feel like set our party back 150 years and give Republicans a terrible name (Hank Williams Jr. is a prime example). The amount of time attacking Obama's birth certificate and "religion" is ridiculous! It's really unfortunate too, because I feel there are really good Republicans out there with great ideas about how to better our country, such as Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, and even Paul Ryan (I do not agree with all of his views, but I think he is a smart individual with some good ideas). But going back to your original post dc, I feel the same way from the other end of the spectrum. Because I am a conservative my opinion is automatically cast as uneducated, ignorant, and I am treated almost as if I am a greedy, inconsiderate person. Funny story, but in college one of my fraternity brothers and I were complete opposites when it came to politics. We were the same major. He is Jewish, I am Catholic. He is very liberal, I am very conservative. Despite all of this, at the end of one of our economics courses we came to the conclusion "hey, we really agree on a lot more than we disagree on." A lot of our conversations ended up being on the the blind, uneducated stereotypes demonstrated by classmates that embarassed both parties. Once we got beyond that we were really able to have healthy discussions. Bottom line, I think there is a lot of cloudiness out there in the media that is really hindering the progress of our country.
  2. I am going to go against you guys and say he should be pitching. Sure the Nats looks like they are ready for the long run but as an O's fan, didn't we think the same thing in 1997? Chances to win the World Series are hard to come by. You know the Phillies, Mets, and Cubs are going to use their large payrolls to reload soon. The Dodgers have already shown they will spend whatever it takes to win. Bottom line this is the most wide open the NL will be for years. The Nats have to take advantage.
  3. http://espn.go.com/b...ns-terps-future Wells will enroll in classes this week and try to obtain a waiver for immediate eligibility. Turgeon already has a top 25 recruiting class for 2012 solidifying the front court with Shaquille Cleare (6'9" 270) and Jake Layman (6'8" 180 wing player) as top 100 players, and Charles Mitchell (6'7" 250) as a four star center recruit. Turgeon has also landed Michigan transfer power forward Evan Smotrycz (6'9" 235), who was a top 100 recruit in 2010. He will be eligible to play for the 2013-14 season. Most importantly I love the recruiting effort Turgeon is giving to get the "Harrison twins", Andrew and Aaron, to Maryland. He only has two scholarships left for 2013 and he is basically putting his whole recruiting class into the second and fourth ranked players in the nation (Andrew is a PG and Aaron is a SG). Gary would have never taken that kind of risk. Both guys have said they are going to committ to the same school, and Maryland is considered a strong contender in the top three with Baylor and Kentucky. From everything I have read the Harrisons have a trendous amount of respect for Turgeon, and Turgeon has recruited them since they were freshmen and Turgeon was at Texas A&M. The Harrisons are also close friends with 2012 recruit Shaq Cleare, who is said to be heavily influencing their decision. The Washington Post said that the Harrisons are originally from Baltimore before moving to Texas and their whole family still resides in Baltimore. Even if we do not land them, I love the aggressiveness Turgeon is showing. If we land the Andrew and Aaron Harrison, our 2013-14 team is going to be scary good! I am talking like top ten potential good. Even if we do not, Turgeon still has the program in a great position. He is aggressive on the recruiting trail, has the right assistants in place to make the connections with the local AAU teams, and has a disciplined system on the court that the players have bought into. His efforts will pay dividends very soon in my opinion. You have to love what he is doing.
  4. McKinney, Oher, I don't think there is that great of a difference. I think the real reason behind making this move is that KO forced his way into the lineup. There may be a little drop off from McKinney to Oher at left tackle, but I think we gain strength as a unit by having KO at RT, or placing KO at LG and Jah Reid at RT.
  5. And there are laws about what a broker can and cannot do (Anti-fraud provisions of the Uniform Securities Act). Once again it is sales. When you apply for a mortgage, you have to be aware of predatory lending. When you try to find insurance, you have to do research to make sure you are getting a fair deal. I am not saying it is right, there are plenty of dishonest people in the world in any industry. I am just saying whenever you are "buying" something, you always want to do your research. People should approach buying investment products with the same approach when they walk into a car dealership, do not trust anyone.
  6. That is not their job description though and that is not how the industry works. You would basically be asking brokers to do a completely different job. Within the industry there are clear guidelines that define what an "investment advisor" is and what an "agent" of a broker-dealer is. There are separate registration requirements with either the SEC or the State Administrator. Brokers are salesmen, nothing more. For example, a broker for Franklin Templeton is selling Franklin Templeton products. Franklin Templeton does not offer financial advising services. If they did, they would be required to register with the SEC as an investment advisor in addition to being a broker-dealer. That is not the nature of their business. I think the 'criminal element' you are referring to is the unethical nature of the business. This is present in almost every sales industry. If you're searching for a new car, would you expect the Mazda dealer to say "well looking out for your best interests our cars are less reliable than Honda's, so you should go across the street." He wouldn't be in a job very long. Even if brokers had the same fiduciary responsibility as investment advisors, there is just as much dishonesty in the wealth management industry.
  7. Too bad we could not just cut Considine. I am pretty confident Gorrer could play safety better than Considine could.
  8. Your Reds are really hitting a nice stride as well. I see Votto is in rehab. He is going to be a huge boost to your offense. It seems we're destined for a Nationals-Reds NLCS.
  9. He was on a Two and a Half Men re-run last night. Really sad.
  10. Man this season has been a dream! We need to sweep the Jays and the stage will be set for an epic four game series with the Yanks at home!!! Time to pack the Yard!!! By the way Thursay is Cal Ripken's statue day! Could Cal have picked a more epic game?
  11. Because they do not have to and would be out of a job if they did. It is no different than any other sales job you see. What you see in the media about Goldman Sachs brokers probably represents the 1%. Most are struggling to get by. Anyways that is my point exactly. With a little research any person of average intelligence could find out you can just open up a Scottrade or E Trade account.
  12. As the article states, people confuse the difference between a stock broker and a financial advisor. Brokers do not have a fiduciary responsibility to look out for their clients, just cannot make unsuitable recommendations. Suitability is very general. You could go to a car dealership and the salesman will convince you that any car on the lot is suitable since it gets you from point A to point B. With a little research you could ask the stocker broker how they make their commission and they are required to tell you. That alone will help you figure out if there is a conflict of interest. Believe me I agree with the article, there are definitely crooks out there that are trying to take your money. I am just saying you don't throw your money at every get rich quick infomercial you see.
  13. By the way I eat my words on Reynolds. It seems like the pressure of playing third base was really getting to him earlier in the season. Now that he has settled in at first (and he is playing a really good first base too!) he can focus on what he does best: hit home runs and take walks!
  14. You pretty much made DC's point You are able to get such good deals when you did because retailers, dealers, and sellers are facing sunk costs at that point. They have to sell the items, so they would rather sell them for whatever they can instead of throw them away. For real estate in the winter those are often the houses where the sellers overvalued their house or over priced it because they are trying to account for renovations that they put into it. Retailers and dealers are able to have these "sales" because low production costs lead to larger inventories. If all the parts were made in the US, there would be a lot smaller inventories and you wouldn't have such dramatic end of the year sales.
  15. Is anyone else just so pumped about the O's you're not even thinking about the Ravens? I mean I'm looking forward to games every single day. It's awesome that every game is important down the stretch!
  16. I mean that is stating to obvious. Who goes to a stock broker for financial advise? Recommending products to sell is in their job description and is how they make their living, it's an inherit conflict of interest. Shame on you for not doing any research before throwing your money into something just because someone says it's "suitable".
  17. HUGE win!! We needed to take this series. We have the Yanks coming in for four games on Thursday. We couldn't lose this one. Time to sweep Toronto who we have been dominating as of late! (Although that dome does give us trouble...)
  18. What DC is saying is the cost to manufacture would be higher in the US causing the prices to raise and supply to drop.
  19. Might have been the toughest loss of the season today. But these guys are fighters they'll be back ready to go tomorrow to take the series.
  20. I cannot believe we cut Brown either. What more could he have done to prove himself? Especially surprising considering Sean Considine is always one sneeze away from a concussion.
  21. Upshaw re-injured his shoulder. Kindle might have lucked out.
  22. Britton final line: 8 IP, 7 H, BB, 10 K. All in an efficient 104 pitches. WAY TO STEP UP!!!
  23. Dude, Hensley is terrible. I thought he was bad when he was with the Sun and he has been worse with ESPN. If you follow his blog, he tries to overcompensate with other teams in the division. I think he felt going in as the AFC North blogger people would have a natural bias against him because he's followed the Ravens his whole career. Anyways, it's pretty awful. Poorly timed observations, dissing of the Ravens for no reason, and just overall bad commentary.
  24. Britton is dealing.... in front of seven thousand people....
  25. There has to be more to the issue than simply employing a tariff. One would think if it was that simple we would have implemented something like that by now.
