  1. No one's expecting glory, crav. Just competitiveness. It was incredibly frustrating last night, but we've all still got our unis on today.
  2. Max... All the young guys are popular... Jones, Wieters, Markakis... Roberts is still very popular too. I would avoid: Tejada, Izturis, Millwood, Guthrie (any pitcher not named Matusz, Tillman or Bergesen really)
  3. I think Gaither and Oher need to switch sides... but keep 'em both.
  4. Cousins was an absolute joke last year... it wasn't just the unsportsmanlike... he looked un-athletic-like. I tend not to rip players, but if I had to choose a few to really give a verbal beating to (for their play alone), Cousins would be high on my list of Ravens. I don't know too much about him... hell, I hardly know age or experience... I just know he looked BEYOND lost out there. And in terms of pure physical ability, there aren't many that can compete with Gaither. But we are also talking about a young kid who was pretty much kicked off his college team for being unable to keep his grades and academic performance up. People mature, but that should tell us something about his starting point for work ethic, commitment. Suffice to say he was not (is not?) a Ray Lewis or (insert several dozen players from any sport) who spend all off-season prepping for those 16 games...
  5. Cuellar died of cancer today. Multi-time 20 game winner, including the O's 1970 team with 4-20game winners. Also won a Cy Young. And as I have heard many times today... owner of one of baseball's meanest screwballs. RIP Mike.
  6. I want Rackers.
  7. screwed up the pro bowl? what was RIGHT about the pro bowl that they screwed up? couldnt have made it any worse than it was.
  8. Ugh. Heartbreak indeed. Of course, like many games this year... the Terps had no business winning it. If they had pulled it out, amazing. If not, we deserved the loss. And really... I think that final minute summed up Greivis' career at UMD. Amazing run and a great few shots to put us in a great position... and then we lay off the pressure on thefinal possession and they get it all.
  9. MD's path is getting more and more open... unbelievable. Just need to get through tomorrow, though.
  10. For every Guthrie bad outing... you can look forward to this. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/bal-sp.osgame20mar20,0,3458664.story Brian Matusz no hitting the Phils through 5 and a third. We actually kept the no-hitter going until the 8th. Please, friends, continue to say we are doomed!
  11. VA... I have to assume you meant their 97 appearance against the Mariners. Certainly not 07. Secondly... this Spring has been rough, but it was expected. The Orioles will likely not be a winning team this year. Perhaps 500, perhaps a game or a few over... but that's expected. We should still be 10-15 games better than we were last year. As has been said, you don't make a team better overnight. But the core of players is there and growing and will continue to grow. I stake my hopes in the likes of Markakis, Jones, Wieters, Reimold, Pie, Bell, Tillman, Arrietta, Matusz, Erbe, etc etc... as much as I like Guthrie, as much as I hope for Millwood... they are still placeholders
  12. Har har har... Couldn't resist. Just flipped on ESPN to see Torry Holt sitting there as an analyst... with the title "11 year NFL veteran, free agent" under his name. I mean, I have no clue on cost, etc... but does anything know anyone about his situation? Do I want to invest long-term in an aging receiver like Mason or Holt? No. But would I gladly put a corps of Holt, Mason and Boldin against anyone in the league? Yes. And add in a rook (or two) to be mentored...
  13. I agree and disagree with points here... I mean, he has certainly improved in many ways throughout his career. In fact, I think his biggest jump was between last year and this year - between being a ball hog and being a team player, a solo artists vs a leader. I give GV a lot of credit for that actually - as much as it pains me. But at the same time, his annoying points were not only against rivals. He taunted his OWN FANS multiple times. Classic Albert Belle, even, at one time: when booed for his performance and attitude problems, he cursed out a large part of the student section. And as for his overall performance? Again, it's been stellar from an individual standpoint. But its lacked the great games and great results (as a team) that great players get. Two NCAA tournaments in four years certainly sounds a lot better than 1 in 4. But it's not fantastic. Early ACC tournament losses. Bad losses on the road and at home to bad teams (including this year!)... I just don't entirely feel it right now. If we have a good showing in the ACC tourney (2 wins?) AND the NCAA tourney (1 or 2 wins depending on matchups)... I might feel better. But right I feel icky thinking that GV is going to be one of just 17 (I think) players to have their jersey hanging above the court. For such a storied and successful program, I don't know how that makes me feel.
  14. I often wonder about how Vasquez has made the climb too... but he's been starting for just about his entire four years and for the middle two of them was about the only 'weapon' the Terps had - as much as I dislike him for many reasons. I remember discussing with my friend at a game earlier this year if his jersey will be retired... and at first it was kind of hard to fathom. Despite some of his numbers, his teams had only made the NCAA Tourney once in his three years. And this year was not looking great at that point.
  15. Terps fans in trouble again for the cursing at the game which came through on air... again. Now, I don't really advocate chanting the f-bomb so loud it's heard on national tv. Or chanting the f-bomb at all, really. I mean saying it, whatever. Chanting? eh. But, some people are going overboard on it. I tend to agree with the sentiment that it's certainly no worse than when Duke fans would change "Crack head parents" to Juan Dixon or "USA" at Greivis. I also tend to disagree with the sentiment that it's any less mature or less creative than those. I don't need witty chants. That's what signs are for. Terps fans make plenty of witty signs. Anyway... I wish Terps fans would cut it a bit. I was as rowdy as anyone at the games, but the f-bombs are silly. So is the rioting. What's sad is I still remember some freshman coming in when I was there saying stuff about how "they came here for its rioting and ridiculously stupid fans!" ?? Really?? That's how you chose your college? 27 fans arrested for rioting after the game. UMD's policy says they all get expelled. I bet that will quiet it down.
  16. I would be in, I think. I also do one league with a group of friends and am now in one with some co-workers too... multi-tasking multiple leagues has never been my strongsuit. Fair warning. Also... I assume we're doing head-to-head? Can we avoid the likes of categories like complete games, shutouts, strikeouts (for batters)??
  17. Happens about every other year on the major networks... some intern (actually, usually it's the real staffer subbing in at the intern's job) doesn't follow-through and verify who is calling and bam. I remember it happened famously with Steve Bartman.
  18. I actually heard it wasn't even on a road. And Donte wasn't really drunk. He was trying to get his DeLorean up to 88 MPH ... but the movie wasn't real and he wound up hitting a guy sleeping at home. The whole jaywalking thing was just BS.
  19. Just what you'd want ... distract us from discussing the truly important matter at hand: DUI. Apologist!
  20. I thought we established it wasn't a highway... ;) I just think we can look back through 7 pages of convos here and find half the posts offering some excuse for him driving drunk. And that sickens me. That's all. Again, this isn't even about him being Donte Stallworth or the Ravens signing him. I have always just been responding to the apparent "oh well" attitude towards DUI.
  21. Oh, right. People who drive at .13 but don't get caught are that much better for society... pardon, had forgotten! But we've also already established that the courts generally take this issue too lightly - which is why it remains an issue. I also like that "Maybe" it's a big deal. It is a big fucking deal. He drove drunk. Very drunk. And he hit a guy. Quit acting like it's NOT a big deal. Also, what exactly is every other DUI driver's intent when they get behind a car? Or what was Stallworth's? You're right. It's not murder. It's also not rolling through a stop sign. It's a serious fucking issue that kills 1,000s of people a year in this country and ruins many more lives. And yet, we say "oh, everyone makes mistakes!" instead of "shame on you."
  22. dc.

    Snow!

Could be all rain... could be a mix... could be 1-3... could be 5+ (up to 10 I've heard) PA and north are likely in the 20 range.
  23. Not as bad as in the Duke game. But yeah... Terps have rebounding issues... especially when Jordan Williams is off his game.
  24. I also don't mean to say that the article is entirely wrong... or to undermine the impact of the Williams case has had on Marshall... It's just that this article didn't actually illuminate anything. It's as good as my guess or anyone else... "I haven't actually asked him, but uh, you know, here's a good bet..."
  25. In a word.... meh. The writer consistently mentions how he's never spoken to Marshall about the event, his feelings on it, etc... Seems like a Preston-esque attempt at creating a story, explaining the unexplainable, etc etc... No chance Marshall's just a punk like many other prima donna NFL players? Was he any better attitude-wise in college? He was arrested in college on assault, disorderly and refusing to obey an officer. Sounds like just a punk.
