  1. To clarify as to why, if we win out, we would be the #1 seed:

If we win out, we win the division due to the fact that Pittsburgh lost to us twice. All the talk about conference records with them is pointless, because for the head-to-head advantage. As far as a hypothetical 3-way tie scenario with Cincy, us,and Pittsburgh if us and Pittsburgh were to lose a couple more games, we would still win regardless of what happens. The worst we can finish in the division is 4-2, which is equal to the Steelers' best possible finish and 1 game better than Cincy's best possible finish. In that case, Cincy would be eliminated at the divisional tiebreaker, and then us and Pittsburgh would revert back to the first tiebreaker, which is head-to-head, and we would win.

If we end tied with only Houston at 13-3, we get #1 overall seed by virtue of our head-to-head win.

If we end tied with only New England at 13-3, we get #1 overall seed by virtue of record against common opponents (Steelers, Colts, Chargers, Jets: Ravens 5-0, Patriots 4-1).

If we end tied with both at 13-3, with no head-to-head, equal conference records (10-2 across the board), and not enough common opponents, it would revert to strength of victory. The NFL won't calculate this far out who clinches strength of victory, but I've run the scenarios, and by my numbers neither team can catch us there. I may have made a mistake and haven't accounted for weird things like ties, but I'm 95% certain of that fact (and even if it is possible, it is exceedingly unlikely).

So yes, if we win out, we will be the #1 seed.

  2. Ravens sign Ricky Williams...

OK Oz, Im starting to doubt you now..Ar you freekin insane, 4 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crav, the $4 million number includes all of the incentives. The base salary is $2.5 million over 2 years, or $1.25 million a year. Considering the veteran minimum is $910,000, he's really not making much over the min unless he puts some numbers up to make him worth it.

  3. Give it a shot. The Reds were the last team to do it back in '90, but they too are off to a 3-0 start this year. How weird would it be for two wire to wire teams meet in the World Series?

Well, if you're talking about winning the World Series, then yes. But the Orioles actually went wire-to-wire to win the AL East in 1997 (which, incidentally, was the last time they started 3-0).

  4. Honestly, since it came up, I am getting sick and tired of the calls for Bulger. He has been terrible as a starter the last couple years he was one. Don't you think that if he had anything left, he would have been the starter in Carolina, Arizona, or Cleveland this year in place of Clausen/Moore, Anderson/Hall/Skeleton, and Delhomme

  5. In terms of playoff scenarios:

If we remain the 5 seed and win, the team we would face in the second round would be determined by who wins the other wild card game. If the Jets win, we would go to Pittsburgh. If whoever the Jets play wins, we'd go to New England.

    That being said, go Browns!

  6. I liked what Harbaugh said here:

"I think the fans care," he said. "I think they matter. Look, I was disappointed with our consistency. I think that's what they're saying: 'We need to be more consistent.' And we're trying to get that every single week. And to see it happen today against this team, yeah, it feels good."

Then, before heading off to celebrate with his coaches, he delivered one final message for Ravens fans.

"I want them to believe in us as a football team," he said. "Yeah, [the criticism] stings a little bit. But I know where they're coming from. Because they care."

  7. Pretty much. The records are now tied, and there is now no conceivable way that a tiebreaker can break for the Ravens. So, we need to win out and the Steelersa need to lose one (doesn't matter who its against, but Browns is obviously more likely). In terms of winning the division, the Ravens winning the game today actually didn't mean very much standings-wise, except for the fact that the loss doesn't HAVE to come against the Browns.

  8. With the win today, its fairly certain that we're going to make the playoffs. We would just have to win 1 of our final 2 to clinch.

Here's the problem, and why I REALLY hope the Steelers lose twice: As it stands now, we'd open the playoffs in Indy. NOT who I want to play.
