Wow, that was a bad start
  6. On Sunday, the Washington Redskins will be the first team in NFL history to face win-less teams in its first six games. Here's the Skin's opponents so far, and their records at the time. Giants 0-0 Rams 0-1 Lions 0-2 Bucs 0-3 Panthers 0-3 Chiefs (this coming Sunday) 0-5 Other than the Giants, the records of the Redskin's opponents right now is 2-22. And both of those wins came against the Redskins (Carolina, Detroit)
  7. Even if we grant your scenario here (.500 in the tough games listed, meaning all those outside Cleveland) and the best case scenario of winning 3 of the last 4 here (even though Chicago is no gimme game), that would still leave as at 10-6, which may not be good enough for a playoff spot in the AFC. I think its likely that one of the wildcards comes out of the AFC North, while the other one will be whoever finishes 2nd in the East of the Dolphins/Pats/Jets or the Chargers. I doubt, since all 3 teams have to play each other still at least once, the Ravens, Bengals, and Steelers will all make the playoffs. Its possible, but unlikely. So, this is why I'm worried.
  8. My only concern with us being 3-2 at this point is the schedule coming up: @ Minnesota, who is 5-0 and who will be very tough to beat in the dome. vs Denver, also 5-0, and just beat the Pats @ Cincy, who just beat us at home @ Cleveland, which we should win going away vs Indy, who we played in 2008 (L 31-3), 2007 (L 44-20), 2006 (L 15-6), 2005 (L 24-7), 2004 (L 20-10), and 2002 (L 22-20). The last time we beat the Colts was 2001 (39-27). That was, like, 15 QBs ago. Also, anyone notice a trend with those victory margins? We might lose by 35 this time with the way our secondary has been playing. vs. Pittsburgh, who beat us 3 times last year, who will have Polamalu back, and the game is on Sunday night @ GB, this time on Monday night. As of right now, I think we'd be a favorite in maybe 3 of those games (Cleveland, GB, and Pitt, and those last two are a stretch.) Now, I think we are a better team than we are showing right now, but we'll have to change real quick to prove that. At the end of this stretch, I think we can be anywhere between 9-3 (cause I doubt we're gonna beat Indy) and 4-8 (cause we ain't losing to Cleveland). Any record between there though, and it would not surprise me at this point. And that is what frightens me about this season.
  9. As to when an official's call last helped us win, I can think of the playoff game against the Titans and the non-delay of game call on the last drive for the FG, but other than that and getting an extra TO against Seattle back in '03 (the Wright huge comeback), I can't remember another.
  10. Well, sometime between 5 and 10 years ago, they had a rash of injuries with receivers getting absolutely clobbered while diving or jumping and after the ball had passed them. That led them to give an interpretation on the following rule to say that it included any hit on a "defenseless receiver" after the ball had passed and there was an opportunity for the defender to not hit the receiver: unnecessarily running, diving into, cutting, or throwing the body against or on a player who (i) is out of the play or (ii) should not have reasonably anticipated such contact by an opponent, before or after the ball is dead; It does not matter if the contact is in the head or not, if the defender doesn't need to hit the receiver, the penalty is called. I have seen this called on at least a half-dozen occasions over the course of the past few years that did not involve contact to the head or leading with the head.
  11. I'm already worrying. We play the Vikings in Minnesota next week. With the way Benson's stats look (I was working and saw only the last few minutes of the game), Peterson is going to run all over us. After that game and the bye, we have Denver, who is also putting up a hell of a fight against NE right now, and is 4-0. Then we go to Cincy, and since they just beat us here, we'll probably be underdogs for that game. After a brief respite against the Browns, we host the Colts and the Steelers. Looking at that schedule, while I don't think that it will happen (at least I hope not) there is at least a semi-decent chance we could end up sitting at 4-7 if we don't start getting better right quick. I'm seeing flashbacks of 2004/2007 right now. Today, despite how poorly we played, we had multiple chances to win, and couldnt come through. 3rd and 16 and we take a penalty. 4th and 1, and let Carson scramble for the first down. A bonehead play by Lewis to give the Bengals 15 free yards with the clock stopped (and he didnt hit with the helmet, but they probably would have thrown the flag anyway for hit on a defenseless receiver). But to be honest, there is one play that haunts me more than any of those about this game, the first play that I saw when I sat down at the bar and had the bartender turn the TV to the game. Without that overthrow on 3rd and 10, none of that matters. Flacco has got to make that pass. As much as we rag on Clayton (and a lot of it is deserved), he was wide open on that play. That connection has to be made. I think, on that play, Joe lost his cool a bit, adrenaline got to him, and he put too much juice on it. That is going to be the what-if that nags at me from this game.
