  1. Deal is reportedly a four-year pact for $16 million The Ravens know how important Corey Graham was to their defense and special teams units the past two years, which is why they maintained interest in re-signing the veteran cornerback. View the full article
  2. Wide receiver was on free agent visit with Giants Known primarily for his game-breaking, kick-return ability, Jacoby Jones was viewed by some as a luxury item for the Ravens who seemingly had bigger needs. 5. I’m sure some Ravens fans hoped that the organization broke from its tradition of being patient at this time of year and went out and used much of the approximately $19 million of salary cap space that they had on the first day of free agency. Start out by signing one or two offensive linemen. Add a prized receiver. Go out and get a middle linebacker and then a play-making safety to anchor the defense. And then be done with it all until the May draft. Of course, that was never going to happen, even with the advantage of more cap flexibility than the organization has had in a good while. The Ozzie Newsome -led front office lives by certain philosophies or mantras, and one of them goes something like this: “The longer you wait, the less you pay.” I’m sure some fans, seeing the number of holes the Ravens have, don’t want to hear it. But the same patient philosophy did help them land linebackers Elvis Dumervil and Daryl Smith last offseason on cheaper deals than far less accomplished players at their position received. The Ravens will remain active in free agency, but my guess is they exited the first day with Eugene Monroe locked in as their left tackle and Arthur Jones headed to the Indianapolis Colts, thinking that things had gone exactly as planned. 20. When the free-agent market officially opens at 4 p.m. today, it isn’t expected to be long before the top available offensive tackles – Branden Albert (Glen Burnie), Jared Velheer and Rodger Saffold – have new homes. But what about Eugene Monroe ? Four days ago, when the “tampering window” opened and representatives of free agents were allowed to start talking with teams, it seemed inevitable that Monroe would be playing his football somewhere else in 2014. By the end of the weekend, things had seemingly turned in the Ravens’ favor and it appeared that the two sides were on the right track to getting a deal done. Now, it’s anybody’s guess what will happen. The bet here is the Ravens and Monroe work something out at some point today because the continued pairing seems like a great fit for both sides. But I have little confidence in that prediction, given the events of the past couple days and the fact that the Ravens have proven many times in the past that they are not afraid to move on from a player if they don’t like what they are hearing.
