  1. They never had time to negotiate. That time was pissed away with the lockout. They will get it done or not.

Suggs was overpaid. I think he is drastically overrated around this town.

I am beginning to think that the public face is we want a SB but the conference room has translated into retool/rebuild mode.

Okay Papa how many Ws in 2011!

  2. This is getting crazy. The owners did not plan for this decision to have the lockout lifted and they look totally unprepared. What are they going to do if their appeal is denied?

The owners seems like childrens in court room, the owners; appeal..appeal and then the judges; No you are wrong, stop this sillyness!

I am guessing we will have some kind of FA starting next week, but the court circus will comeback in june/july (that is if the court is working then?) and hard to see where we are just now.

  3. Well if this arbitration on Wednesday does not rule favorably for the players then the union will have really screwed their own players. If it does rule in their favor, then they will be in good position to negotiate. In other words, the union is taking a big risk here. That offer by the owners before the deadline was by no means a final offer, it was meant to be a springboard for further discussion. That month of lost time could really end up biting the players in the ass as the owners are going to have leverage no matter what and that last offer is going to get less favorable as every day passes. There are nearly 3,000 players and there are only 32 owners, you tell me who is going to crack first (not to mention the owners have the commissioner in their back pocket). If this thing starts running into August and the union is still decertified, I guarantee you players are going to start running back to the owners instead of "sticking it to them".

3200 players should crack first, personally not that optimistic.. The unity thing with those 32 owners seems to me bizar, they are just too different. A team like our Ravens who needs to cut more players, still to little mediamarket therefore they would like the cap to continue.. then there are obvious teams who would benefit without the cap, then you have Bucs, Panthers, and Bengals who would be favoured if that deal was done, and teams like Vikes, Bills and Jax who just seems to be struggling for their live all the time. Seems to me the unity thing is as much troublesome for the owners.

Also in august it is still the owners who have the responsibility to media and sponsors, not the players.

Btw there is a reason why we are here, thanks to the owners who lost all the way in 2006.

  4. How so?

The 2010 FA rules migth very well return if 2011s FA is late and in a limited period. In that case Wilson would be a RFA.

I believe Carr is not going to demand starter salary and then I think he is one those they would like to resign, he seemed to be very positive about coming back just after the season, while Wilson and Fabian was more like so and so.

  5. It's too bad that Washington didn't work out, as his potential is through the roof. However, sometimes teams have to move on. With Foxworth, Wilson, and Webb, that's a good threesome. I would love to bring back Carr, I'm hoping he also has Wilson's mentality. Those four would be great together. I'd still draft at least one DB however, maybe.....a safety lol.

Agreed, and CB migth finally not be a weak spot. And the lockout migth help to secure those four.

  6. Breaking from the pocket early is a product of not having trust in your line. I think many issues with the offense go to the Line not being what was expected.

Agreed and then add the lack of speed from recievers.

In that Bengals game.. Pressure on Joe and Heap getting free happend almost at the same time, and then there is what two seconds when Joe just had to avoid the sack, yeah Heap is on a island, Joe is not! If he had released it sooner bad things migth have happend anyway, at least that was what Joe was thinking. Of Joes picks this one is not one of them I hate.

  7. 3 yrs ago we could have gotten a return on Heap. Now he is valueless. I think pass rushing DT should be added to your list.

Try 4 or 5 years ago when he resigned! What would be the point then, that we knew he would suck in 2007+2008?

Heap now had his best season since 2005-2006. 2007/IR + 2008 sigh, 2009 decent, 2010 solid.

  8. No. You understand that it is a rebuilding process. Had they done this in the past then I think you would be ready for a major run.

But they have been rebuilding just like Pats, Steelers and Indy. Since 2001 they have done that, and competing.

If you take away Ed, Ray, Gregg, Mason, Heap and Birk, replace them the next two years, we will have a pretty young team, but not that young, and we migth still have key players like Joe, Rice, Boldin, Oher, Grubbs, Dickson, Pitta, Ngata, Cody, Suggs, Foxworth and Webb, some of them are already there, some will rise others likely not, however those pieces should make us competing. We have 14-15 draftpicks in the starting line up, that seems to me like a pretty good indication that something is working well.

What is a major run really? Brady without PO wins in the last 3 seasons, Steelers who is in the SB, then next year out of PO and then in SB again, or Peyton who only has one SB, despite dominating their division for more than a decade.

31 other teams likes to have some of the cake.

  9. Max,

Good post. Harbs is winning - that you cant argue. But can/will he elevate the team to the next level ?

What next level?? We are there, we kicked the lion in his freekin teeth Championship weekend, we just didnt scream like a banshee and spear the sumbitch..

I dont get all this doubt Ive been reading since the season ended..It must be in the gene's also, because as a Baltimore Football Fan, Ive never experienced this much success, consecutively..And to know we are doing this with a QB thats going to be our franchise for years & years well that suits me fine.

I'd hate to see this town if we throw a Bungle like decade together, or if we did you would understand why irsay left.

This post makes more sense than most these days.

  10. yeah nothing else than keep winning, sigh.

Not sure that it is that simple, we have a team who still have Ray and Ed, soon their will be some kind of rebuilding.

He has already done some kind of rebuilding mostly on O.. also ST and some D, can he continue that proces together with the FO, this is way more important than Ws.

Ws is only for Bisciotti and the fans.

Max who is the other HC.. I guess the first one was a former Baltimore Colt coach.

  11. I have pretty much no problems with our offense in 1+2 Q all season, but the second half almost the entire season, sigh. Especially when we were leading, safety first and 3 and out, so predictable.

Btw all of our 3 overtime games pretty much same thing, Cam would go no where, and only thanks to ST/D we were 2-1, and hard to blame ST/D for the Pats L in OT.

  12. We will see if it is a good idea or now. I think it maybe bad.

Why? You are not a fan of Ozzie I know that. Harbs too?

If we have not resigned him now, he would think shortterm and hard to blame him, and he would surely not be here in 2012, especially not if he would have his forth winning season and our team would most likely be in a worse condition in 2012-15. Winning in this league is not so simple.

The record in 2008+2009+2010 is fare better than most would have expected, and at least what you expected from what I remember.

Pittsburgh and Patriots has 38 W, Harbaugh has the third best record in the league with 36 W. Impressive when you think Pittsburgh is in our division, and that we still have not an elite QB, an offense who still struggle and a defense who is declining. And our two last drafts has not been helping.

Before this season most of us were pretty upset about the disciplin and ST, and the 2010 season proved huge improvemente in both areas. And we continue to win against lousy teams, this is a sign of a good coach.

  13. Well Harbs is now 36-19, most W in a 3-year period.. In 1999-2001 we had 35-19.

So if players and Coaches respond like they did in 2006.. after the 2005 season when the chemesty also were down, we are safe and the logic answer has to be 19-0.

I am not disputing that there are some kind of tension, there are obviously.

    However Harbs is now 36-17.. and 13 Ws this year would not happend if Harbs has not most of his players back. we are good, not that good that we just win without some kind of overall understanding. And;

    - Also it has probably been the first season when all three units did their part. Also again a solid positive turnoverratio.

    - And something you have to give Harbs for is the total turnaround in penalties.. fewest penalties ever! And winning the yards + 673 yards against 984 yards (it was 3. most only 98-98 the opponents comminted more yards against us) + 311 yards this year, last year it was -353 yards.. If this team has broke that bad boys image, it is fine by me, hardly a sign for a dysfunctional team.

  14. I am not sure whether Cam has had game plans to protect his other QBs, I just think he is doing that here. At least I think that's the reason Joe and the offense is being kept on a short leash. I also assume that is why Harbaugh doesn't have a problem with Cam and brought him back.

The last two years for Joe have been pretty close. The difference between those and his rookie year to me is largely the emergence of as a dump off target for Joe. Joe passed for 2971 yards his rookie year and 3613 his second year. He also threw the ball to Rice 78 times for 702 yards his second year. (compared to 33 for 273 his rookie season) Thats your difference right there.

Yeah we are just going to disagree. With the exception of the first Browns game this season I have seen every game Joe has played and have not really been pleased with his progression. We'll see how it plays out this year.

Oh so now you compare the starter Rice, with what? He was the starting RB in four games in 2008.. Btw all RBs (including QBs) had 708 passing yards in 2008.. 952 in 2009 and 745 in 2010.

And Mason and Clayton had 1732 passingyards in Joes rookie year, and 1508 in 2009 and Boldin and Mason had 1639 this year.

And the former bengal and ST player KW had 431 passingyards last year and the former Bengal and pro bowler TJ had 398 yards this year.

  15. I still think Joe is a good quarterback and that we really don't know how good he could be because of Cam being a control freak with the offense. If we give Joe more latitude to call plays and check off and run an offense for which he is better suited (perhaps a West Coast offense) and THEN he fails, I think we'll have at least given him a chance to be 'elite'. Right now we don't know and we won't know as long as Cam has his arms wrapped around the offense as much as he does now.

Joe's critics used to say he couldn't throw over the middle, he couldn't throw against the Cover 2, etc. He proved a lot of them to be wrong on those counts this year.

    Agreed.

And when Cams runninggame and the OL fails to run blocking and in pass protections, and that we even more than in 2008-09 lacked the deep threat.. (at least Clayton and DW did something sometimes when they were healthy), and our defense is regressing and still we are a winning team, that tells me something about Joe.. We did win more games this season thanks to Joe not the other way around.

  16. 25 years ago I was figthing the Ivans, well not for real, but USSR and the other Warzaw pacts countries were the enemy for the NATO-pact, when I did my military service (obligations). We had the cold war in Europe.

And I was probably also doing a lot of drinking and smoking and dancing, a crazy soccer fan too, and never heard about Johnny U, but I recall Joe Montana he and his 49ers was the first time we saw the game, the SB came to Denmark in the early 1980s and was the only football we saw in Denmark, at that point we basically only knew the QBs, RBs, WRs and then something happend.. a dane a Kicker! named Morten Andersen. Then in 1994-5 we began to see more games, and from 1998 we began to see 1-2 games.. (and a lot of Morten Andersen games, sigh.) and finally I began to love football and defense and Ray Ray first of all, well also some Goose and Boulware.. and Jermaine and Priest and later Jamal was the obvious reasons why I became a Raven. And now we have +4 games every week.

  17. I have no problem with Joe complaining about Zorn's firing. Otherwise I agree. Sadly I think Joe is as good now as he will ever be, which in my opinion is nothing better than a journeyman QB.

My gut feeling is a new OC would improve the offense about as much as firing Cavanaugh did, firing Fassel did, and firing Billick did. The amount of receiving talent we had on this team was greatly underutilized. Sure there is some blame to spread around but to me the lions share of the blame falls on Joe.

I have been defending Cam, but the conclusion is hard to ignore.

I am hoping for more for Joe. And I find it unfair to say that his learning curve should stop at this point.

And our passing game were better last year. Even though Heap clearly were a better player, and Rice pretty much the same.. Mason, Boldin, Stallworth and TJ were not a better combo than Mason, Clayton and KW.

Btw this Falcons game was our 9th game, that Falcons game were the eigth game when he had for more than 100 passing yards in the second half.. He never passed for + 100 yards in the second half.

In the first nine games Joe had 2132 passing yards and 15 TDs/7 Int., the last nine games including PO he had 1916 yards and 13 TD/4int. Well this is not telling much but when you compare first half and second half.. first half season he had 986 and 6/2 in the first half and 1146 and 9/5 in the second half.. In the second half of the season he had less yard.. but not in the first half when he had 1304 yards 17TD and 4 int but only 598 yards and 2 TD and 2 int in the second half.

To be fair there were probably a reason why we did not pass much late in the second half, we would like to improve our runninggame and control TOP (and defend our defense), but overall he was handcuffed this year, and after the Falcons game it was also evident for me!

  18. I believe Willis has a yr left. Ialso understand it is for about $6mil. Theere is noway they will have him around at that number. If Willis comes back he would have to take a pay cut. The question is will he.

Oh it is worse..from yahoo..signed a new six-year contract extension worth more than $32 million. Agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed the deal, which included $15 million in guarantees. That guarantee comes in the form of a $7.5 million signing bonus McGahee will be paid now and guaranteed option bonuses of $6 million in 2008 and $1.5 million in 2009. Beyond that, McGahee receives base salaries of $595,000 in 2007 (final year of original deal), $605,000 in 2008, $620,000 in 2009, $3.6 million in 2010, $6 million in 2011, $6.5 million in 2012 and $7.2 million in 2013.
