TBird Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 This is a cool article from Wall Street Journal describing how new technology, namey tablets, are killingthe defenses. Players carry tablets around and can watch game film in the grocery store or in the bathroom. They pick up the simplest or most subtle keys like eye movement by linemen or if a safety lines up2 yds inside the hash mark. Players have to know this stuff because if they give out the keys they willbe picked up immediately. And it favors the offense on top of all the rule changes. On Sunday Big Jen scorched Indy with 522 yardsfor 4th highest total in history while Rodgers, Luck and Foles threw for over 400 yds each. Score one for the tablets. But then technology intervened. For about the last four seasons, players have had tablets to watch film on. This year, the effects are being felt for perhaps the first time. “Things that used to be subtle, like a safety lining two yards outside of a hash mark, is now a dead giveaway,” said former NFL lineman Shaun O’Hara, now an analyst at the NFL Network. http://online.wsj.com/articles/how-technology-is-killing-defense-in-the-nfl-1414523159?mod=WSJ_hp_EditorsPicks Quote
TBird Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 I remember when Billick came here he was one of the first coaches to use lap tops. He used computers, instead of the oldchalk board for diagraming plays. He had pass routes in bright colors and each player got a lap top and could been seenon the practice field with them. Gruden was one of the first coaches to put the entire offense on a computer disc when he was an assistant coach at SF.When Holmgren went to GB as head coach he took Gruden with him and said bring your discs with you.
