  1. Congrats on a great season.

Forget this Lewis thing. If the Ravens want him, they won't lose him. Lewis won't be stupid and go to the mess that is the Dallas Cowboys when he finally has a QB that can lead the team. The Ravens just made it to the conference championship; Dallas couldn't even make the playoffs. And Lewis ain't getting any younger. His best chance at another ring is where he is.

But if the Ravens don't want him, then you've got a problem. But that won't happen.

    See you next year.

  2. Big props for coming back and posting! Don't let these guys get to you, they can get a little crazy sometimes, but they calm down 24-48 hours after the game. :D Definitely hang around in the offseason, it is always nice to hear the perspective of fans from different teams (as long as they are not Steelers fans!). I am sure the Dolphins are going to be an exciting team to watch in the offseason. You guys have the right blueprint for success and should continue to get better.

Thanks. Good luck against Tennessee. Tough game; Tenn will be tough. But with those monsters on the Ravens D coupled with that solid o line and running game, not to mention a remarkably calm and cool rookie QB, you have to like the Ravens' chances. And although I don't have the stats on the following statement, in the divisional playoff round I like a physical team like the Ravens that is not rusty over an idle team. Of course, with all the wrong things I have said here these last few days, maybe you would prefer that I called for a Titans victory. So I'll say Titans win if you want me to.

  3. gg oggs.

Just got home from the game... I managed to stay out of any altercations (there was only one fight that I saw, at the end of the game) and surprisingly I didn't give any flack to the Dolphins fans. Believe it or not, I actually felt bad for them (I wouldn't have felt bad for Steelers fans or Eagles fans...). Most of the trash-talking I did was done pre-game...the post-game mostly consisted of celebrating with fellow Ravens fans who made the trip down from Baltimore. I did, however, receive some interesting words from some Dolphins fans as we exited the stadium. For example:

"Ray Lewis is a murderer." I didn't even respond to the guy as we walked by.

And my favorite, as we walked past the (post-game) tail-gaters in the parking lot...

"Keep moving... go shovel some snow." I told him we weren't going to Baltimore...we were headed to Tennessee.

glad to hear you had a good and safe time at the game. I have been to football games and baseball games in many cities (including Baltimore) and the only city that has fans more likely to start a fight than miami fans are philly fans.

  4. Oggie we all live and sometimes die a little on each play, quarter, game and season. When the Ravens lose any game my week following isn't as bright. Sometimes I wonder if it would be healthier to stop watching the games. But the rush of winning is to strong a drug. The point is we all hate losing. I fealt the way you did when the Ravens lost to the Colts in the playoffs. Grasping to any statistic or moments in the regular season that might spell a win for my team. Ultimately we lost. I was there and yes I was devistated. It hurt like hell for over a week. I can't blame you for your posts. The thought of losing congures up excuses or hopes that this or that will save you from the pain of a loss. You are a good fan keep being a good fan. But for god sake change your favorite team to the Ravens. We could use another good man here.

thanks, but I will stick with the fins until the day I die---and hopefully even after that.

But football is painful. And tonight I have to watch my buckeyes lose--- and I am out of statistical arguments on that team. And then Thursday I will be forced to watch the hated Gators win another one. So this is definitley not a good football week for me.

  5. Congratulations Ravens Fans. I have read all in this thread and I deserve it all. Obviously, not what I expected out of Pennington--and the Ravens D played its game. Hats off to Flacco--he scared me going into this game and my only hope was if this rookie losing stat would work in Miami's favor. But I was wrong on that and a lot more.

Miami has more rebuilding before it can play with the Ravens. Miami will be back. Good luck with the Titans and hopefully you can get the Steelers. Good luck.

  6. Why is Harbs a creep?

And its going to come down to Harbs and Sparano.

    Look out for Fisher though.

calling harb a creep was a joke.

Fisher is in it--but I think it will go to a rookie. It's just an amazing thing to do what Smith, Sporano and "harb" have done ths year. It truly proves the power of good coaching to turn a franchise around in one year, as a rookie. And to have 3 doing it the same year? There has to be a stat on that!

  7. Joey Porter...LMAO..Dude Joey Porter wont amount to squat against us, you act like we've never punched him in the mouth before.

You sound just like the Mayor of Delusionville. You're right---after all, who did Joey Porter get all those sacks against...blah blah blah blah.

Now is a good time to get that "gas" you talked about yesterday. "Dude", you're going to need lots of it.

  8. ... oggie... don't you have a Dolphins message board to troll?

In case you were wondering why there are no Ravens fans over at the Dolphins message boards talking crap...

It's because we don't consider you a serious opponent. We're already trolling the Titans boards in anticipation of our game next week. Good luck next season.

You are mighty cocky and arrogant. But there's a reason why they play the game. Just ask Indy. Your team is on the road facing a team that has won 9 of 10 NFL football games. And you're overlooking this team? You're a liar. Period.

On second thought, don't take any crap today from the Miami fans at Joe Robbie. Be the jerk you are and wear that black eye proudly--you'll look just like Joe Flaccid will look after a little greeting from Joey Porter.

Turn out the lights...the party is over...Miami 13 Baltimore 10.

  9. And the trend continues as rookie QBs have a hard time winning playoff games, especially on the road. Today it was Matt Ryan, the offensive rookie of the year. Tommorrow it is Flacco. Welcome to the playoffs where 77.7% of rookie qbs lose their first playoff games. Rest well Mr. Flacco--tommorrow you learn a valuable lesson. Enjoy the show.

Division winners, like San Diego and Arizona, playing at home in the wild card round and winning? Nothing new there. Miami 13 Baltimore 10.

  10. We go to all of the Fins/Ravens games. If we made it out alive after last year, I think we'll be fine.

It's a playoff crowd that will be plenty drunk and rowdy by 10 a.m. when they open the parking lot gates. Seriously, if people talk crap to you, just let it go. I've been there for many playoff games over the years and I have seen lots of fights at the Orange Bowl and Joe Robbie. Just let it go.

  11. The difference of course being that we'll be here tomorrow night one way or another. But when we win, you'll never be heard from again.

Will you be at the game? I live in Florida, and we'll definitely be there.

You don't know me so don't assume what I will do. If the fins lose, I'll be back to eat my crow and congratulate the knowledgeable fans in this forum. If the fins win, I'll be back with some "final thoughts". But either way, I will be back.

I am originally from Miami (aventura) but I live in las vegas now. If you're going to the game, enjoy it. But be careful with the rowdy groups in the corners. If you are sitting there, the Miami fans there like to start fights with opposing fans, usually around the 3rd quarter. But most fans won't bother you. And you'll have plenty of ravens fans around you. Good luck.

  12. As I said in the other post... doesn't this actually increase Flacco's chances? 75% of the time rookies fail... one rookie already went down... that shifts the odds in our favor I think. But you're the stats expert.

If that floats your boat, go ahead and handicap the statistic. Whatever gets you through the night.

  13. I sincerely hope you come back and visit us again tomorrow evening. I can't wait for your reaction then.

    Good luck!

Thank you for inviting me back. I can't wait to see some of the real cocky members that have predicted 3 or 4 touchdown victories by the ravens come back here tommorrow with their tails between their legs. Let's see what they have to say after the Ravens get an old fashioned beat down in Miami.

  15. If the Ravens are evenly matched against the Dolphins then this season was a waste. If thats the case I'd rather have gas then watch the game tommorow. When I think of the dolphins of old the officials play a roll in tight games especially meaningful games. I hope thats not an issue in the game. Keep that in the back of your minds guys.

Don't worry, the Ravens are not evenly matched with the dolphins. Miami 13 Baltimore 10.

  16. The Dolphins are the best at protecting the ball but the Ravens aren't too shabby in this catagory either...+13 (NFL’s 3rd best).

    Wash.

Protecting the football is critical. It could come down to 1 turnover providing a Ravens or Dolphins win.

Yet, that's only 1 stat in a big picture.

Now...I like some of the Ravens statistics.

matheson.jpg"Shall we club each other to death with statistics?"

Ranked 2nd in the NFL, the Baltimore defense set 3 team records: opponent QB rating (60.6), rushing TDs allowed (4) and rushing 1st downs allowed (58). Baltimore led the NFL with 26 INTs, including 9 by S Ed Reed, which was also an

NFL high. Baltimore was 3rd against the run and 2nd versus the pass in 2008. The Ravens also were tops in the NFL producing “3- and-outs” (60). They did not allow a 100-yard rusher for the 2nd straight season (current string is 35 games, dating back to 2006).

The Ravens allowed the 3rd-fewest points in the NFL this season, permitting only 244 (15.3 per game). Baltimore only allowed foes to sustain 17 drives of 10 plays or more, tied for fewest in the league. Of those, just 6 yielded a TD.

    Whew! Hold on! There's more!....

The Ravens’ defense was stout on 3rd down this season. Baltimore only allowed foes to convert 33.5% of their 3rd-down attempts, good for the NFL’s 3rd-best mark.

The Ravens’ 34 take-aways ranked No. 1 in the league (26 INTs and 8 fumbles).

The Ravens’ “D” came up big in the red zone this season, allowing foes to produce a 35.9% TD-success rate inside the

    20. Baltimore allowed just 145 points from the red zone in 2008, the fewest in the NFL.

The photo below has a high statistical probability of accurately depicting the plight of the Dolphin offense tomorrow....

    sc08.jpg

    Ok...clubing away here!...

The Ravens totaled 148.5 rushing yards per game this season, standing as the NFL’s No. 4 ground attack.

The Ravens’ 18.1 average margin of victory ranked 2nd in the NFL during the regular season. Baltimore outscored opponents 333-134 in its 11 wins. NOT BAD WITH A ROOKIE QB!

Additionally, Baltimore only allowed a league-low 60 points in the 4th quarter while scoring 115.

Part of the Ravens’ success can be attributed to sustaining long drives and controlling the clock. This season, Baltimore’s 33:10 average time of possession was the highest in the NFL (sorry Chad...wait in line to get the ball!) :)

In their 8 playoff games, the Ravens have only allowed 143.4 passing yards and 90.4 rushing yards per contest. Those figures rank as the fewest per game in NFL postseason history(since the 1970 merger).

The Ravens have allowed just 11.0 points per game in 8 career playoff contests. That figure ranks as the lowest opponent playoff scoring average since the 1970 merger.

OK...OK...I'll stop. Those are playoff numbers...but there are a ton more stats if you want to keep clubing away!

    "It's in the hole!"

    cs_258.jpg

Boy, you really made a compelling argument in support of what I said earlier. Baltimore has the best defense. That is the only opinion I ever stated on the Baltimore defense. So we are in agreement there.

But you went one step too far in talking about Baltimore's playoff defense. I am sure it has been stellar. But the real numbers regarding the playoffs is that Ray Lewis & Co., as good as they are, are 0-2 in their last two playoff games. And despite having the best defense in the league overall the last 6 years, Baltimore has not won a playoff game. Of course, now you will respond and point out the fact that this Ravens team is different because of Flacco, and I will give you no argument there. But I'll take my chances with a tough Miami team playing at home against a rookie quarterback, coached by Cam Cameron, in the playoffs any day.

  17. Good stuff, you have definitely done well in explaining your prediction, and I could certainly see the game playing out that way. I have to give you some credit, you are one Dolphin fan going up against ten Ravens fans! I see the game in a similar fashion, except I see Ravens winning a close one, but I would not be shocked if it went the other way.

Let me just throw out one final point. In a game of field position, special teams is going to play a huge role. Sam Koch has been on an absolute tear the past few weeks and finished second in the league with 34 punts inside the 20 yard line and a 45-yard net average. According to Scouts, Inc., the Dolphins have been weak on kick coverage and return this year. Do not be surprised if this game comes down to special teams.

Do not forget, we had a little home-field advantage during the game in October. Hopefully you and your Dolphin fans come out in full-fleet tomorrow afternoon :D

Special teams concerns about the Fins? Absolutely, although they have made some changes in that department. But I hold my breath on every kick/punt return against the Fins. And although don't like Ted Ginn, I wouldn't be surprised if he (or Bess) broke one tommorrow because they have made changes. But I'll give the edge to Baltimore on that one.

As for the crowd in Miami, Joe Robbie is no Orange bowl for crowd noise. But Miami fans will be there for the playoffs and they will be loud.

As for yuor home field advantage in Miami, don't pat yourself on the back. Every opponent playing in Miami against the Marlins or Dolphins has plenty of fans showing up at Joe Robbie; but Baltimore's contingent was small compared to most others.

    Good luck

  18. Good points, and this is where I do believe Pennington can hurt us. The Dolphins have the best take/give away ratio in the league (+17 I think? We are at +13). The Dolphins do a great job of protecting the ball. Ultimately, if the Dolphins offensive line can give Pennington time to throw, there will be opportunities downfield. I agree with you in your earlier post, Pennington can make plays downfield, if he has time. However, Chad is not the type of QB to buy time with his feet, then chuck one downfield (ala Big Ben). These are the QBs that kill us. In October the Ravens were very successful in pressuring Pennington, even if the sack numbers don't suggest it. If the Ravens pressure Pennington and shutdown the run game like back in October, the Dolphins will be in serous trouble.

This is why this game is going to be so good. Both teams have progressed a lot since October, which means anything can happen tomorrow. While Pennington was only in Miami for 2 months, Flacco was only 5 months out of a D1-AA football! Remember, we were both 2-3 going into that October matchup. That Dolphin game was the turning point in our season. So while you guys have progressed since October, so have we.

about your comment that Chad isn't one to scramble and throw a bomb. I think that has more to do with the Miami receivers than it does with Pennington's arm. And I recall many a bomb he threw against Miami in years past even when he was scrambling. I remember those throws well. But I do acknolwedge that he can't throw it on the run like Big Ben.

  19. This so-called streak that the Fins have went on to end the season..Not 1 playoff team did they play..

Buffalo,Denver,Seattle,Oakland, New England,Rams,Bills,49ers,Chiefs and the Jets.. WOW

Tomorrows game puts as much concern into me as the game we faced the Raiders

*** I'm stupid for thinking this game is easy ***

    Is it from British Columbia?

  20. Good points, and this is where I do believe Pennington can hurt us. The Dolphins have the best take/give away ratio in the league (+17 I think? We are at +13). You're right. Anyhting can happen. Note that I am predicting a close game. But I think that with the game being played in Miami, a rookie QB going on the road in a playoff game (even thoough he was better on the road this year), a tough atmosphere, and all the points I have referred to, the slight edge goes to Miami in the turnover game, which I think determines the outcome. But I wouldn't be shocked or surprised if it goes the other way. These teams are that evenly matched, in my opinion, at least for the game played in Miami. but under these circumstances tommorrow, I like Miami 13-10.
