  1. Just as legit as the Ravens.

The best AFC team so far is the Broncos. That hopefully changes by the end of the year, but every other AFC .team needs significant improvement.

Ravens, Bengals, Chiefs, Texans, Colts, Dolphins and Patriots all seem to be in the hunt for playoff berths. So who is going to step up, we will see over the next few months. But the Bengals will be one on those teams.

  2. Dalton has to do better, much like Flacco had to improve a couple years ago.

These guys seem to think Dalton will do OK.

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/23346776/nfl-expert-picks-bengals-bandwagon-filling-up-can-they-win-it-all

Of course those same individuals picked the Bengals as the worst team in the league three years ago.

Let's play the season, Bengals look good on paper but the game is played on the field.

  3. These preseason polls don't mean much. Two years ago the Bengals were ranked 32. Best team is determined on the field not on paper in preseason.

I'm pretty confident that the Bengals will be competitive in the AFCN.

  4. Good luck tonight.

Bengals are grateful to Art too. If he hadn't fired Paul Brown there would have been no Bengals.

Bengals have to stop Rice and win the turnover battle to have a chance. Green and/or Gresham have to have good games. Looking forward to see where Green lines up. Chad used to be able to play only one receiver position, which meant doubling him was pretty easy. AJ will lineup at all positions so it should be a little harder to double him. Bengals preseason running game has not looked good, so Dalton might have to beat the Ravens through the air - not the best option, but we shall see.

Game starts at 7:00 instead of 8:00 and the Steelers losing already puts a smile on everyone's face.

  5. To be fair to Simpson he was one of the best Bengals with charity work. When he was sentenced so many people showed up to vouch for his character that the judge was overwhelmed. He couldn't listen to all the people there to talk. Nice guy, stupid decision.

  6. I assume you mean UMD downtown?

Lots of great options there, though not cheap - Redwood, Sail Cloth, etc are all loft style apartments in big old warehouses that are very cool. Across MLK the UMD BioPark is developing a nice area (technically part is in 'pigtown' as we call it). There are some nice new apartments coming up there but also lots of rowhomes being renovated for rent or sale. I have several friends living in that area. It's not quite as close as the others, but you can walk it. Better yet, Baltimore's new free shuttles go straight in from that growing area to the university.

Speaking of which, the N-S shuttle (the other was the E-W) would make it possible to live all the way up in Penn North or even Charles Village (Hopkins). Again, neither is cheap, but both are great, safer places and everything is easy to access. And lots of options along the whole strip.

Thanks for the help dc & dee, I'll pass it along to him.

Cravn I don't think he would like the purple curtains.

  7. Nice pics. The bald eagle was close enough to get a very good pic. Better than I did last year at Yellowstone when the bald eagle was flying over our heads.

So the best part was the?

  8. A very big factor is Carson's wife. She doesn't want to live in Cincinnati anymore. When she left town last November before delivery their third child, she reportedly said she would never return to Cincinnati. Carson did not renew his local golf club membership last November. He had been a member there for 6 - 7 years.

Carson was the main reason Owens was in Cincy last year.

So to blame it all on the Bengals is not completely correct. Unhappy wife is a major factor.

  9. She should definitely have a jeans ad after this. Calvin Klein where are you?

How long does it take her to get her jeans on? Probably doesn't have as much trouble getting them off.

  10. That's funny. Peter King has the Steelers winning the Super Bowl, finish third in this article.

I'm tired of all the predictions let the season start. Injuries will probably determine the winner of the ACFN. I won't be surprised if the Steelers, Bengals or Ravens won the division.

  11. That 2009 Bengals team won the AFC North, swept the division opponents, and made the playoffs for the first time since 2005. Yet in most preseason publications, the Bengals are not getting any consideration to repeat.

Duplicating their run through the AFC North won't be easy, but this Bengals team is clearly better than the one that ended the 2009 season with a disappointing playoff loss to the New York Jets. Most preseason picks have the Baltimore Ravens as the favorite to win the division, with Pittsburgh second.

Third for the Bengals? Does anybody pay attention to this team?

Well, the rocket is still orbiting. I'm still out there, thinking the Bengals will win the AFC North again. With a break or two, they could even wind up in the AFC Championship Game or even that last big game at the end of the season.

"How do we deal with the respect now that we have the targets on our backs?" Palmer said. "That's new for us. We swept the division, so you know those guys are gunning for us. But I think we have enough guys who will be able to react to the situation."

It's clear that Palmer and his teammates, and even Lewis, think they have a good team.

    Why, then, doesn't anybody else?

If you don't, you will be mistaken come January. This will be a playoff team again in 2010.

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/13694394/bengals-camp-report-perception-aside-cincys-even-better

Pete Prisco still likes the Bengals.

    a second article

    Love and hate

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/13694414/bengals-love-and-hate

What Pete loves and hates about the Bengals. Doesn't like Roy Williams, Andre Smith, not passing the ball more and the kicking game.

  12. TO is certainly not the receiver he was a couple years ago but he can still stretch the field. Inputs from Turk Schonert and Ryan Fitzpatrick had him working hard in practice last year with the Bills. So the Bengals don't have too much to lose. He could blow up but he's not going to get another chance to make the playoffs. You would think that would make him a model player but we shall see.

Antonio Bryant participated in the first practice if his knee was that bad they would have put him on the PUP list. Because he had a meniscus tear they plan on practicing him only once a day. I think he will have some pain this year.

Biggest news was Andre Smith started on the PUP list. I think they want to get him in better shape before they put him into practice. He's looking to play the last two preseason games.

Anyway all the season has started. thank god.

  13. Welcome back bearcat..

Yeah, 1 week we going to have some battles, cant wait for week 2.

    Thanks, I've been around.

I was hoping that this article would keep you up at night.

The 2010 Bengals certainly are the best Bengal team I can remember. The defense is very good which is what they've needed to get over the top.

I do think character will be their undoing...there's some reason for their late season fade last year....that's a huge red flag.

A lot of injuries caught up with them at the end of the year. TE, DT, LB, SS, WR, and RB more so than character.

  14. On paper this is the best Bengals team in the history of their franchise. They are absolutely loaded with talent.

they’re as good as any team on paper in the NFL right now.

They have a chance to win 12 games. They really do.

So I think it’ll come down to the Bengals and the Ravens.

    http://blog.playmakermobile.com/blog/2010/07/cincinnati-bengals-20102011-scouting-report.html

only one week to go until training. Looking forward to the battle for the AFCN.

  15. Gresham missed the entire year last year, my money is the Bengals reached for him.

All I hear is how "great" this Carson Palmer is, if hes that great then he should of put monster numbers up if his WR's were TD Taylor and Double D Darling and throw in a little Patrick Johnson. Bottom line is, Bengal Fans are using Chris Henry as an excuse, and dont want to face the reality that the Ravens with Mason passsed for more yards than Carson Palmer led Bengals. We picked up firepower in Boldin & Stallworth, they drafted a TE that missed an entire season because of a knee injury!!!!

There DB's aint shit, teams went pass happy against the Bengals, we'll pick and choose and light them up.

Gresham could have played at the end of last year but Oklahoma decided not to take any chances with his knee. It wasn't a bad tear. Your best hope is that he signs late and missing training camp. Doesn't sound like it though.

What's Palmer's record against the Ravens? Remember Carson played with a bad left hand all last season. He had no dependable TE to throw to - Coats had 1 or 2 drops against the Ravens last year for TDs.

The Bengals DBs >>>>> Ravens DBs

    I give you three.

    1. Jets! Pats and Phins could be better. Sanchez will not help them win many games and their leading RB is gone. Jets FO this year reminds me of Skins FO for ever and Bears FO last year. And first of all I believe the FOs in Boston and Miami is simply just the better ones.

    2. Cincy! Ravens and Steelers will be better. I doubt they will be 6-0 again in the division, they were 4-6 outside last year and now their schedule is worse with Bolts and Indy. And Crav is not always wrong, and a team who take a change on Pacman, and just now they are hyping him.. seriously this is so not serious! Pacman just like Gresham coming back from injury there are reason to doubts this year. Their defense was promising but the depth? Play the game first, until then a no from me. And first of all I believe the FOs in Baltimore and Pissburgh is simply just the better ones.

    3. Indy! I wish.

Doubtful the Bengals will be perfect in the division again after all they could be resting their starters in the last game of the season.

4 - 6 outside the division which included freak losses to Denver and Oakland. And in the Jets game the starters were sitting on the bench.

Adam Jones would be the 3rd cornerback at best. Very good depth at all positions on defense right now. Maulauga (2nd year) and Rivers (3rd year) are just now understanding their roles on defense.

    Papasmurbell

Shipley has been alternating reps at slot with Caldwell. Has looked good in shorts but we'll see how he looks with pads. Dex Briscoe has been out with groin pulls, not sure he will be in good enough shape this year to make an impact.

Looking forward to the season - the next five weeks will be slow.

  16. Ravens Insider and others are reporting that "The Bengals used bracket coverage to take Mason out the game and his signature routes."

Meaning? Fancy word for double team.

And what does that mean? It means two things... if Mason was double covered ALL GAME we should have known and adjusted - it should have created some openings elsewhere on the field when we spread the defense and it definitely should have created some holes for our running game. But Flacco and our run game both failed to find those weaknesses.

Secondly... it again tells us that the Bengals succeeded where we failed. First, we failed to neutralize Chad Johnson. Then, when we did quiet him a bit, Palmer and the Bengals were able to rip open the rest of our secondary as well as run through our front seven - with the help of some missed tackles and stupid plays.

Bottom Line: They simply executed. The Ravens didn't.

Bengals have pretty much shut down B. Marshall, Jennings, Santonio, Edwards and Mason. They've taken the other teams number one receiver away all year. Yesterday just made it 5 out of 5.

  17. I still do not mean to take any credit away from the Bengals... because really, they played one hell of a game... but I still just not sure about them.

I mean, despite a downright overpowering performance on both sides of the ball for most of the game... you were losing going into that final drive. And if not for a few penalties (justified or not), the final score would have been that much less likely.

You should have been winning going into those final minutes, not trailing. Just like in Cleveland.

And after all that - the defense's numbers (again, outside of the pass rush) are pretty darn average. Just like I worried for the Ravens in their 3-0 start, I would worry for the Bengals... the lead-up and the final product don't entirely match-up. How long can that keep up?

    Average numbers?

The defense held the Broncos to 200 yards and 6 points before the fluke play. The Broncos did not run any plays inside the redzone. Bengal's offense had about 8 passes dropped and a dozen penalties. Bengals missed a FG from the 10 yard line and the Broncos took over at midfield.

GB had pick 6, and were shut out in the second half until two minutes were left and a prevent defense was used. GB put up 100 yards of their 300 yards in the last two minutes.

Steelers had a great first half 270 yards but only put up 13 points. Second half they had 7 points and 100 yards.

Browns had 400 yards in 5 quarters. Browns had turnover on a kickoff return that they kicked a FG. Cribbs returned a punt to the Bengals 15 yard line and the Browns got another FG. Cribbs had another punt return to the Bengals 40 yard line where DA threw a perfect pass to Massaqui(?)for a TD. so the Browns had one drive for 7 other points.

The Ravens had one drive for 7 points and a pick six. How many passes did Coates (TE) drop for TD's?

The offense and special teams have struggled. At least 6 bad snaps on FG's and extra points. Carson has been rusty having missed most of last year and most of preseason with injuries. He is just now getting his timing back.

It's actually scary that their record is 4 - 1 with the offense being mediocre so far. Look out second half - Henry now appears healthy from his injury, Andre Smith still hasn't played, Carson is playing better and better, the OL with many new players is getter better each game.

So I'm not sure why your so doubtful (or maybe hopeful), the Bengals are going to play better in the last 11 games. Scary that they've beaten the Steelers and Ravens and haven't played their best yet.

  18. Here is the difference from before, we now have a QB who has just as much ability to lead his team down the field at the end for the win as you do. So basically, if the game is close in the fourth, I believe whoever has the ball last will win.

Me personally as a Ravens fan, I think this will be a decisive win by the Ravens. It will have its close moments, but the Bengals have shown this season that while they can play up to the level of their competition (e.g. Steelers, Packers), they can also play down to the level of competition (e.g. Browns, Broncos). Since Harbaugh has become coach, the Ravens have not played down to the level of the competition, for the most part, and have played excellent at home. So if the Bengals come out slow like they did in the Browns and Broncos games, it will get ugly. If the Bengals come out playing tough like the Steelers game, it will be very close.

I have been impressed with your run defense at times (Maualuga, Rivers, Odom, and Roy Williams have been solid in the run game), but is the front seven as a whole (mainly the play of those defensive tackles) going to be able to be physical enough with our offensive line who have dominated every opponent thus far? I am not sure. On the offensive side of the ball, the league's #4 rusher goes up against the league's #1 run defense. This will be a good match-up and possibly the key to the game. Carson has been sacked nine times this season, this could be a big factor as far as the need to get the run game going. On the flip side, if Jared Gaither is not good to go, Odom and Gaithers could be a big factor in pressuring Flacco.

Bengals trailed the Steelers by 13 points in the first half, the Bengals kicked a FG as the half ended.

Bengals lead the Browns 14 - 0 until the Browns scored with 2 minutes left in the 1st half.

So your info is a little wrong.

I like the Bengals chances as Carson plays well against the Ravens.

  19. Bengals 3-2 after next week.

At the beginning of the season you would have been happy with that record.

The offense went MIA for 2 1/2 quarters (27 yards and 0 first downs)and Cribbs had 200 return yards.
