  1. I seem to have that effect with my proclamations... Really, the 'Hawks are playing quite well right now, as are the Flyers. I couldn't predict right now who will go to the finals, but a Chicago-Philly Cup Battle would be cool. That photo is cool, I can't imagine what it must've looked like in person.
  2. So the Q-Stache will have (only the 5th) 2-0 road-victory-start of a playoff series in Blackhawks' history?! awesome, and original 6 team making some headway to advancing to the finalsss....... anyhoo, I still want a SJ jersey.....
  3. Looks like Chicago means business. And so does Philly. So, remembering Rocky III, the prognosis... "PAIN". Like Clubber Lang said, should the current scenarios holdout, and the Flyers face the 'Hawks.... Clubber v. Rocky...
  4. I will issue a warning, especially for 'Hawks fans... HOSSA IS CURSED... coming from pens and 'wings fans alike...; it's amazing to watch these guys skate and fight and compete, they look like focused zombies, so compelled yet machine-like, who's gonna break? holy shit now hjalmersson (or however it's spelled) gets a slapper past Nabokov, and christ it'll be a home meal for the Blackhawks on Thursday. Chi up 4-1 now on SJ.
  5. Okay, challenge for some (non-hockey person) to pronounce the name of this Blackhawk: "Byfuglien" I fully admit I had NO IDEA how to pronounce this, and yet was surprised to know it was simply like B_ _ _ _ _. edit: Captain Toews is truly kicking ass, coming into the prime of what hopefully be his team's best year...
  6. wow Chicago's up 3-1 on SJ after trading 9 shots apiece on goal in the 2nd period, 20 minutes coming for the Sharks to decide if they'll stay competitive or succumb to their "history"... of not living up to the expectations of...? edit: BTW WHERE THE HECK ARE BOYLE, THORNTON AND ESPECIALLY PAVELSKI? HENHH???????!!
  7. I'll admit I've only paid a sideways glance to this next game, but the Blackhawks are takin' it to the Sharks, even though SJ just scored to make it 3-1 Chi'town; Marleau's shot was an awesome 1-holer past Niemi BTW. top-shelf indeed. but, if Chicago manages to take this BACK home up 2 to 0, then I think it's Manifest Destiny for the 'Hawks, maybe about to do what they were supposed to do and should do soon, win a cup.
  8. KC fans too cheap to come out for a fat Attman's sammich; maybe we should import some beef ribs and KC masterpiece, like on that MASH episode... Maybe that'd bring the closed midwesterners out to the yard... it's late, I'm hungry... really, flirting with record-low attendance is saying something..., like the umps could probably hear my belly grumbling from section 358...
  9. Patterson looks like Desi Arnaz crossed with Obama... He's kept us in the game... (I can hear something going on on the scoreboard, Mario Bros. music, is it the Crab dance? DAMN that stadium is quiet) Dude, Izturis was NOT safe at first! The foot was down! IT WAS DOWN!!! ahem, I don't care; now Markakis gets the hit, lugo scores, and the O's win a game.... Millwood must be just shakin' his head...Now to Sharks v. Blackhawks...
  10. good call, and damn, makes me wish I'd seen the Flyers at the Igloo circa Lindros era, I didn't like that guy. Although Hartnell I really dislike. anyway what the heck is it with those Philly folks? I mean, Rocky was never like that Sorry to hear you were pelted with cheap arena snacks. You laid out some great visual imagery, you should write short stories for this site, little vignettes. edit; actually I should admit that I've seen plenty of "good Baltimorons" that have their share of embarrassing moments, and also alot of WVU fans (especially at football games). But not so prevalent and consistent as with our neighbors 1.5 hours up I-95
  11. well, at least Millwood won't get an L, and his ERA should drop..., or, not go up much... ... and, we're going 'extrees' at thu yurd ... and now, Simon, the literal master of disaster the other night, is out on the mound.... ... and, gives one up the box, KC has the 1-out go-ahead on 1st...KC's road unis are kinda goofy lookin'...
  12. My, how the Orange turns. Halak, once the enigma of the first two rounds, has now been "touched" by the Flyers, and meanwhile this guy Leighton has become the most recent version of a newcoming goalie to experience some success in the playoffs. The Habs need to turn up the heat at home, I expect them to come out blazing and attacking in front of their fans.
  13. I vividly remember being cussed out by child-age phillies fans at the Yard; I also remember (back when I used to wear the Igglez gear) getting beer thrown on me at Three Rivers stadium during an intrastate NFL rival game, I of the green-cloth then. That last goal Halak gave up was real bad...; but, they'll go back to the Bell Centre and be hopefully rejuvenated. I agree Spen, they haven't look bad, but things have gone Philly's was so far...
  14. Wow, I just saw this. What a development for a team that had the virtual purging this season of every known name, to be in the position to take a player like Wall, or really whoever they think will be the foundation for real growth. NO KWAME REPEAT! NO KWAME REPEAT!!!!! http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2010/news/story?id=5199693 I've got no real rooting interest in the Wizards, except that they are really the only reason I watch the NBA the few times I do, or have done, recently (meaning, since they had Heywood and Jamison and Arenas, et al who are now gone). Let's hope this draft gives us reason to care about the NBA (judging by the lack of recent posts, most do not.) BTW here's a note I found citing a possible (but improbable) scenario in which LeBron could become a Wizard, especially interesting because it presupposes the Wiz winning the lottery, which they did. Imagine James with the likes of John Wall gallavanting in and around the verizon center? As Wizards? http://www.truthaboutit.net/2010/05/its-just-one-lebron-to-the-wizards-scenario-dont-think-anything-of-it.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TruthAboutIt+%28Truth+About+It+-+Washington+Wizards+Blog%29&utm_content=ESPN
  15. Wow, Gagne the recipient of a PP goal, hard work from behing, around, in front of Halak... . The flyers are feeling it, and the Habs are looking a bit tired; still competitive, but you wonder if they've got enough left in the tank to make this one a game and avoid going home down 2-0 in the series and giving Philly true home-ice advantage. I don't like the Philly fans mocking the "ole, ole" btw, classless... But that's just the city of brotherly love and their faithful.
  16. Early in the 2nd, Philly still up 1-0; Flyers are doing a good job getting back on D and standing MTL's progress at the blue line, preventing good penetration into the zone, forcing some awkward puck-dumpings which they get to before the Habs can even get wholly through the neutral zone... This is taking away from the Habs' speedy advantage on the rush; that's the flip side to the Flyers gangin' up in front of the crease around Halak when in the Habs' zone.
  17. Damn, if Miggy's throw didn't bounce to Wieters that would have been a (clear) out. Man, KC strings together 4 base hits, running on 2 outs gets them up 2-0. sigh..., and --- DAMN what a bunt! 3-0 KC --- of course Millwood had been pitching great....
  18. I understand the need to keep media speculation at a minimum and give teams (sports and medical) time to do their jobs effectively. I just wonder... But I'm definitely happy, given the way Webb was early last season, to know he'll probably be on track to start on time.
  19. I would be totally remiss not to mention my appreciation for the new Attman's Deli in the Warehouse, I totally took advantage of that last time I was at the Yard; a cloak-n-dagger is SOOOoo much better than a dog or chicken tenders.... It's not as good (less variety, not as quality) as Lombard street, and is more expensive, but still so tasty.
  20. here we go again; millwood pitching well but with no run support. This guy's gonna get pissed soon, I hope. Greinke is great, but the O's have done well against him in the past. WTF how about scoring some friggin' runs???!!!
  21. One of the reasons I've had a problem with Dio is that I'm a huge fan of Ozzy-era Black Sabbath, and I could never stomach the Dio-era Sabbath work (heaven and hell, mob rules, live evil, etc.) even though those albums were extremely successful and loved by all sorts of metal fans. But, just like lots of people can be "classified" by what versions of bands or their works they prefer, say, AC/DC with Scott v. Johnson, Van Halen v. Van Hagar (no contest there IMO), or the "Zeppelin test" (if you dig Led Zeppelin, try comparing and debating your favorite Zep albums and/or songs with another Zeppelin lover, and you'll learn a deeper side of each of you), I've always been Oz-matic and therefore a bit put off by Dio. also, Dio tended to come across as kind of arrogant and artsy, where as Ozzy just seemed like a lost dirtball (more appealing to me), so I found Dio somewhat polarizing and perplexing. The cryptic nature of much of his songs' lyrics also didn't help.
  22. I saw Dio back in 2005 (I think?) at Merriweather PP with Iron Maiden and Motorhead. It's really amazing how guys even at those ages can still rock out almost as they did 25 or more years ago. Dio was great that show, even though I was really more interested in the other two bands (who were also great, or at least up to their old standards.) I also saw Slayer a year or so ago (also at MPP) with Marilyn Manson, and shit they were awesome, and I used to hate slayer, but now much later I appreciate them (there were plenty of older guys who even brought their kids), I know a whole mess of teenagers that listen to old slayer and other 80's and 90's metal as well as the more recent genres to come out since the arrivals of Slipknot, System of a Down, etc. I know I'm getting old when these newer bands are covering the same songs I used to really bang to; scary but kinda cool. One of my students again today had "Holy Diver" playing on the school computer, and I asked him if he was playing it as a tribute to the fallen star, and he was like "huh? I dunno, it was just on [the computer]" and I said, "he just died two days ago, stomach cancer" and he just kind of stared and said, "oh, damn... nah, I didn't know". I think he was high as shit.
  23. I bet Mason "like" the most, imagining a likely improved and diversified passing game, with him not having to "shoulder" the burden anymore, and work with/mentor younger players with an eye to the future...
  24. wow, that is great news. I'm happy, trust me; I also wonder, was the original prognosis and timeline for recovery a "worst case scenario", which would facilitate a more probable "ahead-of-schedule" recovery? just curious, but it seems to me alot of players are recovering from really serious injuries with miraculous speed in recent years.
  25. I've got no real problem with $$ in salaries vs. revenues, but moreso with the lengths of the contracts. I mean, 13 and 10 years for Ovie and Backstrom? crazy. They're not gonna get snow like this year's very often, hope the two can "warm up" to the region's normal climate... that goal by Briere was too easy, why wasn't Gill throwing his body around to block that one? Philly's coming again with the toughness, the canadiens already look agitated and it's not midway through the first period...
