  1. School, I hear you but where's the pain in giving it a shot? We're talking about trouble he go into last yr. so he took the yr off. Guess what? No trouble. So he's not in football shape. Let's get him in football shape. If there's something there to help us win games, we'll find it. If he has nothing, then he's cut. If he gets into trouble, he's cut. It's about winning games and getting guys who help you do it. He's had issues but if he's a good player and has put his issues behind him, I want him. I don't want him to be another Burfict. We didn't take that shot on him and here he is knocking the snot out of Ray Rice. He could've been a Raven. And he's not having off field issues as was thought he would. Give it a shot and see what's there with R McClain.

You may be right BG, I just hope he doesn't cause us to miss another good player while counting on him and then he trashes us....

    Happy Easter to you, buddy.....

  2. Here's my contribution on CJ and his raw deal:

It's not one because he's been score by GM'S and player personnel depts to be toast. And you can doubt that but if you doubt it, you're doubting the scouts you love so dear.

And it's still crap to say GMs just know every guy they want. How? Hint: starts with s and ends with couts

Something is seriously wrong with you dude.....I have one for you, who gives a green slimy snot bug either way ????

You should leave that little pipe alone man, you're talking goofy now....

  3. You don't think scouts play a role in signing vets? Bull beyond bull. Scouts play a role in all parts of the league... How do you think teams gather info on which vets for their schemes? You think the GM has time to personally scout every possible free agent? Who helps teams prep for games week to week? You think coaches compile and break down all that video on their own?

Scouting is behind all of it. Vets as much as rookies if not more so. Certainly different scouts, but still scouting.

No one has paid CJ because every about who watched him his last two years in the league said the same thing: toast. And yes, probably adding to that were the personal and personality issues, but as you said in the last argument- that's part of scouting!

You may well be right - he might have something left. But I'd you think he hasn't been hired and that scouts have little to do with it, you're lost on how pros evaluate talent.

BTW - guess who'll be at every CFL game CJ plays? Scouts from almost every team and pro scouting service - for CJ and any other signs of life.

Man I wish you would pay attention to what I said before you comment.....How many times do you need this explained ?

"I said PRETTY MUCH on their own" not totally on their own, but when a team is bringing in a vet from another NFL team, the GM knows most everything about him already, so the scouts don't have to do as much....And again, this thread is about CJ getting a raw deal....If you have something to contribute to that subject, let's hear it.....But stop with ludicrous stuff about the scouts, that ship has done sailed...

  4. Doing well in the CFL doesn't exactly mean he would do well in the NFL.

Granted, but some players do come from there and the likes to the NFL and do alright.....Ricky Williams CFL , Curt Warner in Arena and NFL Europe and I'm sure there's more that came from these basic farm teams for the NFL.

I'm not saying CJ is even on their level now but it will give an idea of what he is capable of doing ....

  5. Seriously, do you not see the hypocrisy there?

Scouts are scouts. If they thought he could contribute they'd pay him just like if they thought a rookie could contribute they'd draft him. It's the same process, but with a vet they have MORE info. And they still don't want him. Shouldn't you trust that more?

If not, then you're arguing exactly what I did in the other thread: talent evaluation in the NFL - even of vets with years of experience- is flawed by a system that has few checks. You are arguing for confirmation bias right now - that once someone said he couldn't play, everyone went that way and refused to see another outcome. Certainly there are other outcomes and they show that talent evaluation is flawed by flawed data -- in this case you are arguing that flawed data is the weight put into his "character" ...

Never discount one part of the process!!

Scouts have little to do with bringing in a vet, the GM pretty much handles that whole process, but I never said that scouts don't miss it or that they don't count or anything of the sort.....This isn't even about that man, what's wrong with you, are you suffering from Confirmation Bias or something.....My point in this thread was that I think CJ was treated unfairly by Miami and the powers that be....Nothing to do with the process of bringing rooks out of college.....You said you were done with that when still in the proper thread, is this a relapse or something ?.....Try to stick to the topic.......

  6. All I'm saying is that scouting applies to all levels of players and talents... If there is talent to be had, some team would be squeezing every once of talent out of that lemon. Sure his history is playing a role (one piece of a puzzle) but given how many personality issues exist in this league, my bet is he just can't play.

As Papa said, it's been almost three years... He had a pair of resurrection chances and failed both.

Not the same as starting from scratch with a rookie as it is with a seasoned vet.....They already know what he is capable of or not, and how smart he is or not.....All we have to do is see how he does in the CFL this yr.....If he gets cut from there, I will concur that it was because he was washed up, if he does well, it will substantiate my thoughts on the matter.....

  7. OldSchool, I thought you trusted the process here? The league, the coaches, the scouts... They don't think he can hack it. You think it has to do with his charges? "Just one step in the process"

If he could play, someone would sign him... Or its the process faulty?

You know very well the process we were speaking of was unknown talent coming out of college, not vet players.

And CJ may be washed up as a starter, but I find it hard to believe that he couldn't suffice as a depth player at this point in his career.

I may be way off base with this but it looks to me as if he was treated unfairly because of the charges brought against him, that's all.....

But let's see how he does in the CFL, that will tell rest of the story....

  8. That same argument was made last yr and they didn't cut him. He didn't embarrass the team since he never made it there. Also if he gets busted for 30 mph over the speed limit they will ignore that too. If he is nailed for rape, murder, or something else big they will deal with it when they get to that bridge.

30 mile over the speed limit could potentially kill somebody, so with his past antics, that would be enough to boot him outta here.

  9. He stopped playing well in Cincy then sucked in NE. He had what 4 yrs of no production?

I didn't say he was still starter material but still talented enough to get a job as a backup at least.

  10. It's not hurting our Ravens to give this a shot. It's all win if it works out and minimal loss if we have to cut him. And at 24, there's some guys coming out this yr that are only a yr younger. Let's get him in shape, around a positive winning organization and see what he has.

BG, after all that has gone on in this guys troubled career, he gets another chance to prove himself worthy to play at this level.

What does he do to show his appreciation, show up 22 mins late, and not only did he fail the conditioning test, "he quit" on his own.

Harbs was really disturbed over that, so I have no confidence whatsoever that he will be of any use to us at all.....

Waste of time in my opinion, unless they can sucker someone into trading for him....But that's unlikely also.

  11. He stopped producing so he can't play in the NFL.

Miami signed him to a deal and when he was arrested for domestic violence, his only trouble ever, they immediately cut him and noone will touch him.....You mean to tell me that not one team could have used him even for depth ????

    I ain't buyin' it....

  12. black balled? he couldn't cut in NE, known for resurrecting careers. Oh then there is his age and attitude... there is no comparision with Smith.

I was comparing the violations and just think CJ got a raw deal as compared.....

NE hardly went to him in games and he did not fit their system very well for whatever reason.

He was never great but a solid wr in Cincy.......Miami blackballed him for 1 domestic altercation and let the Richie/Martin thing go on right under their nose, and turned the blinded eye....That's the kind of uneven treatment that disturbs me about this league....

A guy can kill dogs for sport ,do time for it and come back and be a starting qb, yet another can have a domestic dispute and he is doomed to the dungeon forever....Absurd.

  13. By Jamison Hensley | ESPN.com

"It's just going to be fantastic. I can't wait to do it," John Harbaugh told The Baltimore Sun in Oxford, Ohio, where he is going to have his statue erected Saturday at his alma mater, Miami (Ohio). "Dad is going to be out there. He's going to be the unofficial official."

    You go John !!!!

  14.

The Harbaugh family is planning a little preseason get-together.

This edition of Brother-to-Brother will take place prior to the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers facing off in their Week 1 preseason meeting on Aug. 7.

The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows reported Friday that Jim Harbaugh's 49ers are planning to travel to Maryland to practice with and scrimmage John Harbaugh's Ravens before the preseason edition of the Harbowl.

It's not unusual during the preseason for teams to work together and scrimmage prior to their meaningless matchups. However, it's just more interesting when it's the Harbaugh brothers going at each other.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000342259/article/report-49ers-ravens-plan-to-scrimmage-prior-to-preseason

I don't like it, they play dirty and could cause an unnecessary injury.....Why would a team travel that far for a scrimmage ?? absurd....

Our scrimmages are with the Skins and Eagles, let's keep it that way.

  15.

Of course you are! I just wondered if thats what Boomer said. He didnt and I figured if he was saying it tongue in cheek he would have explained his comments that way so I think he was probably stating his true feelings C section comments included. Thats my opinion.

Next question. Do you think Boomer is some sort of god or diety? You capitalized "He" in your post and I am wondering why.

Well if he was that stupid to say that other than tongue and cheek, he better brush up on his pick up lines cause he's gonna need them before he gets any wahoo from his wife, that's for sure....And no, the cap was a typo....

  16.

Could you please cite the source where Boomer said it was tongue and cheek, or explain how you drew that conclusion? Ok, thanks.

No one said it, I watched as He paused to think of an extreme illustration of how important it was to him personally to be at his extremely high paying job that affords his family the extended luxuries they have because of it, and used an over the top example.

And I did conclude with, In My Opinion......I am entitled to one, aren't I ????

  17. Whats douchie the C-section comment or just his overall attitude against paternity leave? Could you imagine if Joe took two weeks off following his sons birth....

Boomer said first of all, he had a legal right to do that, but that's not what he personally would do.....The C section was a tongue and cheek comment that would certainly offend many women, but understanding that they both made it clear that "if" all was well with the mother and baby, he should get back to work after 24 hrs, and understanding that the guy they speak of can certainly afford hired help to take care of them in his absence, I totally agree with them.....The C section comment was over the top, but taken too seriously IMO.....

  18. I think he does. It was only a few yrs ago he actively campaigned for Buf. His problem is the league knows he is a paycheck coach and will quit on a team when things start going downhill.

I don't know where you get the "quit on a team" stuff from.....Billick did pretty well with total bum qb's and #3 wr's....I never saw him quit.

And he is a SB Champion HC.....You would think he would get a look before losers like Caldwell, Phillips, etc.....

  19. This guy gets cut immediately and black balled from the NFL after a simple domestic violence case, and Aldon Smith has gun charges, bomb threats, etc and still gets to play.....Don't seem like an even playing field to me....

    How about you ???

    Blb5wq6IMAA9g9M.jpgOCHO OUCHO !!!!

  20. Need a BIG FAT # over top of the Pats.

I know a lot of other teams that would love to buy a wild card spot.

When you consider that the Pats were cheating through the first 5 yrs or so under BB, and they still only have 1 more SB win than we do, I'm pretty good with that....Nice piece of info, I don't think any of us realized that we ranked that high....
