dc. Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 1. Zrebiec has an interesting article up about who's to blame for the failure of the young talent, especially the bats. I think he never nails it down as hard as he should/could: it's the fault of not having good bats around them. THey are all pressing. 2. That is very much confirmed by an O's Insider blogpost on the Sun detailing scout comments on Adam Jones: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/blog/2010/05/scouts_talk_adam_jones.html 2 of the 3 are VERY positive about Jones - pretty much saying he is pressing and the team situation is hurting him, like any hitter, and that he will snap out and become a great hitter/player again. The third isn't quite as positive, but still acknowledges that the Jones of last year may not be entirely gone. Quote
dc. Posted June 1, 2010 Author Posted June 1, 2010 Zrebiec has added comments from the same scouts on Wieters and Reimold as well. Again, overwhelmingly positive - almost unbelievably so. They all come down to the same ideas though: injuries, a bad start, bad players around them = a group of young players who are pressing and in trouble because of it. Oddly, I would say that Jones' comments were perhaps most negative - scouts "very worried." Reimold got a lot of passes because of his injury and most said they expect him to turn into the 25 HR, 280 avg guy we saw last year. All three said Wieters was going to be the superstar offensive catcher we want. Largely, though, "unfair" what has been done to him in this community (too much hype too fast) Quote

REEDPIXOFF Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Since when (recently) has this not been done? this franchise is grasping to hold and promote any ray of hope...; the marketing is as bad as anything else. Yesterday I saw a commerical on MASN promoting Derek Jeter...why the hell are we promoting the Yankees players? Another horrible one is Adam Jones being a 6 tool player because he can chew gum. Everything about this organization is disgraceful. Quote
dc. Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 Generally they aren't promoting other players, so much as match-ups between other great players and our "great" players. But it can be hard to tell at times. Quote
millz58 Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Yeah, "A-Rod and the Yankees vs. A-Jones and the O's" is almost self-mockery, if it were from an honest, non-delusional sort, not the guys the O's have in PR and advertising; coming from them, it's simply sad. Quote
