  1. I wouldn't want him for more than a $1 million/year for 2 years. He isn't going to be on the field that much with Pierce and Juschzyhlrrtmt playing.

I loved having Leach on the team but he's not a necessity.

He's 32. I think that tells the story.

Maybe for a mil a year like oldno82 says. The offense could use 1 more nasty, hardnosed hitter.

I bet he wishes that he took the Ravens offer. I'm sure it was a lot higher than he's being offered now. I hear it was for $2 mil+. He'll be lucky to see $1 mil now...maybe vet min. Teams just don't use fullbacks.

Previously the Ravens signed him in August, I think, and maybe he'll wait for another "August deal"

He sure could clear out a running lane and quiet the linebackers...

I'm pretty sure they offered him 2 million plus another million in incentives. Supposedly that offer is still on the table.

Report: Ravens offer to Vonta Leach remains available

  2. Donovan McNabb said on NFL Total Access tonight that the Ravens would finish third in the division behind Cincy and Pissburg. He predicts that we will not have ten wins this year. He's a worthless commentator. I knew I always hated that guy.

And to answer the original question, I think there is no doubt that we are "better on paper" this year than last. There is no question the defense will be better and if we can make up for Boldin's production the offense will be better as well. Go Ravens!!!

  3. We are facing a lot of throwers this year as well. There ought to be a lot of chances for the front to get their sacks and for the DBs to get their picks. I don't think a lot of players are going to be running on us either so that should all contribute to seeing the QB drop back. Once he goes back it's just a matter of time before he goes down. Yeah, I'm real excited about this defense again. It was heartbreaking last year to see all of the RBs putting up the huge numbers against us week after week, but it worked out okay, I guess.

  4. He played down last yr.

He couldn't catch the ball last year. Flacco has a tendency to stop throwing your way when you fail to catch balls that he puts in your arms. Dickson just had problems holding onto passes, early on especially and Joe lost confidence in him. Especially when Boldin catches everything that comes his way including the ones he probably shouldn't catch. I think Dickson can easily get back into the swing of things and be a big part of the passing game this year.

  5. I just don't understand why he would bring this up now. He is just rubbing our face in it and I agree with the people who say that this will come back and bite him. He has other clients and will have to deal with those he is maligning again in the future. I promise you that I would remember his attitude and use it against him some time. What a jerk.

  6. Whats the value of the deal?

Two years with a maximum value of seven million. I have to believe it's encentive laden. We're not going to get caught with our pants down again by this guy. Sounds like a good deal for everybody concerned. 3.5 mil for a good LT is not bad.

There is a signing bonus involved as well. Still sounds like a good deal.

  7. Didn't JJ take like five years to become a starter? A lot can change in five years. I think he will be a workout warrior and a ST ace before he becomes a great edge setter, i.e. another JJ. His former coach really thought highly of him for playing through pain. The more I hear about him the more he reminds me of Jarret. I think he is a typical Ravens player.

  8. So, what undrafted free agents do you think we will pick up and turn into stars this year? You know they are on the phone right now with some of them making deals. And you also know, with their history, they will find some really good players out there.

  9. I think the Ravens wanted Ed gone for the money he wanted to make. Oz lives and dies by "right player, right price." And Ed certainly deserves to make as much as he can. I don't really blame either side for this parting of the ways. I sure will miss Ed playing center field though.

  10.

@billbarnwell: Dumervil deal for Ravens the opportunity benefit of dumping Boldin, not overpaying for Ellerbe. Saved for a rainy day and it came early.”

“@AdamSchefter: Elvis Dumervil got $1 mil base salary this season, plus $7.5 million signing bonus. He makes $8.5 mil this year, with cap number at $2.5 m.”

Cap number at 2.5 is how we are affording him this year. Gonna have to restructure Suggs/Ngata long term though. I love Dumervil but this move is just interesting. We really had the starter opposite Suggs already in Upshaw, and typically that was a run-stuffer on the other side... We've never had two pass-rushing studs on the ends of the 3-4 like this.

Upshaw will probably play more on early/running downs with Elvis playing on passing downs. All the talk about the demise of the Ravens 'D' is just a little premature. Now we need a good veteran ILB and Safety, add some young guys through the draft and our defense is going to be fine.

  11. Free agent pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil has agreed to terms on an multi-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, reports Mike Klis of The Denver Post.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dumervil will receive a five-year contract worth up to $35 million from the Ravens. Dumervil will receive $8.5 million in the first year of the contract.

Dumervil was scheduled to earn $12 million from the Denver Broncos
this season before agreeing to take a $4 million pay cut to remain with
    the team...

  12. John Harbaugh is all class...I am SO glad we have him rather than his hot-headed brother. Plus, John's shown an ability to learn from his mistakes and correct them.

Me too. And I am sure glad we don't have Garrett from Dallas.

  13. I was actually mad that Reed tackled Gore at the 5 (or whatever it was), because I wanted to let them score and leave Joe with as much time as possible. I had zero confidence whatsoever that they could stop them for four downs. Incredible.

That is exactly what I was saying. Let them score, since I figured they would anyway, and have enough time for Joe to lead a valiant comeback. That's pretty much what he was thinking as well.

  14. My wife actually had her eyes closed she just couldn't bare to watch them loose the lead. I knew it all along, NOT.

When they got it down to 4th down, I figured Kaepernick would just run it in. I still can't believe Gore never got his hands on the ball on any of those four downs.

After the stand I was screaming at the top of my lungs until I realized there was still time left. Koch's dance in the end zone was absolutely brilliant.

  15. So, do you think Flacco is elite now? This playoff run is probably going to cost us north of 15 million a year for Joe's services. He's probably worth it if he could just be a little more consistent.

So what does everybody think? Are we going to franchise Joe for the next year or will they be able to work out a contract by March (I think)? They have a pretty good record of signing their own. I hope they get it done. The tag is hated by players and ties our hands in so far as salary cap space is concerned.

  16.

Well, I wasn't picking the Ravens. I couldn't even watch the fourth quarter! But I'm proud to be a Ravens fan!

You didn't pick them, but you weren't actively rooting against them either. It just seemed like everyone was hoping for a Broncos win. They so wanted to see another Brady/Manning matchup.
