  1. 3rd in total D..

Yep, enjoy! We wont see another Brody Croyle led team all season (well, maybe detroit lions !).

Next week, San Diego. if Brody Croyle can lead a 90 yard TD drive againts our vaunted D (in our house, no less), what is Philip Rivers going to do to our D. Unless Ray Ray and company were told to "kick back and relax", our D will get shellacked next week. Put on your seat belts next Sunday !

  2. It seems the Jets are going to sign every FA/cut player this year lol. Seriously, are the writers getting bored or what? Everytime someone is available there's a sports writer out there....."hmmm, I'll think he'll go to the Jets".

I seriously doubt he comes back to Bmore.

Thats fine. He was good in our system here; average in Texas. We need an upgrade at DE; not a lateral move.

We need to get better here/ Anthony Weaver ? No thanks.

  3. The pitching is here... it's just another year or two away. And I'm fine with that.

Again, Matusz, Tillman, Arrietta, Patton, Hernandez, Bergeson, Erbe... the list goes on and on... not to mention those we have already seen in the bigs (Ray, Sarfate, Johnson, Cormier, Albers)

Andy's philosophy is to buy bats and raise arms. So far we're raising both, which is hard to be unhappy about.

The bats are here now... and still coming (Wieters, Montanez, Pie, Jones, Snyder), the arms are on their way. We just need to hold on to them and get them to the bigs.

Yep, like I said - as long as we score > 6 runs a game, we are good !

  4. I like it. Roberts is worth a lot more to us than he is to any other team. I am glad to get this distraction out of the way. Hopefully we can turn this thing around.

It will take a few years to completely turn (or rescue) this Titanic around but Roberts is a step in a positive direction.

Still, we have to get some pitching...big time. I hope we consistently score 6 runs a game. :o

  5. Rolle has been a real weak link on this defense for the last two seasons.

He cannot play up on his man, he always gives a 10-15 yard cushion to avoid getting beat deep, and thus he gets his ass beat over the middle. He can't tackle. He can't run. He can't hit. And he found himself turned around multiple times in big plays this year that really, really hurt the Ravens (running AWAY from Chris Johnson on his big 40 yard catch in the playoffs, falling over his own feet in the final drive by the Steelers in week 15, etc).

I think it's time he went.

Yep - the Rolle coffin nailed. Lets hope FO is on same page !

  6. It's all speculation...it certainly could be reality...but it's just in the specultaion stage.

The Ravens need to keep Rolle because they have no depth behind Walker and Washington. Actually you can't count on any of them to stay healthy all season (Rolle included). Rolle's $4.5 mil CAP figure isn't too high.

Mixed feelings. Do we need Rolle's leadership/experience while we turnover the CB position ?

Or do we bite the bullet and move on.

Given Rolle's declining health and productivity (not to mention salary), I say we bite the bullet and move on.

Oz and Co need make sure they pick up a stealth CB in the draft PLUS a legit FA CB.

  7. Max, you are starting to worry me about Brown. I see Brown as an emerging All-Pro. Hopefully we will pay him as such.

    Tcleetz.

I echo you concerns. We do need to stop screwing around with Brown and lock him up.

We get an OL once and for all and now we are going to muck it up.

Just do it for Gods sake ! ;)

  8. Aaron Wilson is on the Fan, Suggs will be Tagged Thursday morning..Take 10.2 mil off that Cap #. Plus the fact that Suggs has made it public that he does not want to be franchised.

Next: Ray gets the big payday, maybe we keep Jason Brown, and Scott and Leonard are probably goners !

  9. So, if I know anything about the cap, we've got 27 million?

Correct, and more to come when Rolle is released

So, Crav, with the $ 30 M + pending, we can do the following:

Sign our LB trio, Jason Brown and Jim Leonard

Snag FAs CB Asimago, DE/LB Peppers and WR TJ Houzmenzada

    Sign all our draft picks

Yep, that should do it ! ;)

  10. I really like Fabian, he had a hell of a camp.

Me, too. But one way or another, we have to acquire or draft at least one other 1 legit, healthy, shut down CB for next season. Selfishly, I'd rather us pick up a top flight CB in FA and draft another in the 1st round.

We just cant go another season with such a patchwork tandem of CBs. Thats all.

  11. I was discussing this in the draft forum. Pettigrew would certainly be a great value at 26. He isn't a downfield threat, but he is an athletic, reliable pass catching tight end who plays with a mean streak. Even more importantly, his blocking and strength are considered elite for the tight end position. Something that I am sure our guys will value very highly. However, Pettigrew does have attitude and off-field issues, which could go against us drafting him.

If we Sip and Heap are healthy next year, I say we go with that or maybe TE later in the rounds. We have way too many other needs than TE right now.

  12. Crav,

It is indeed a year long proposition. Its great to hear the FO admits its weaknesses and holes and they have a plan to

address them. I like that they are looking at TE, esp since Heap's health and effectiveness has been questionable the last few years. However, this team cannot afford to pass up on a legit CB or WR (unless we first secure through FA).

In my mind, our team needs to do 3 things:

Address/lock up/resign Suggs, Brown, Ray and Leonard.

Fill holes vacated by expected losses of Scott, CMac and Rolle though free agency

Draft in the order of CB or WR, WR or CB, DE, TE, OL, etc.....

    GO RAVENS !

  13. Here's more speculation on the Ravens off season plan...

I still feel Suggs and Brown are #1 & 2 on the need list....of course I want Ray, Bart, Koch, and Leonard also...:)

I heard Rod Woodson in his interview with Suggs keep saying the Ravens will tag him (on NFL.com)....that is a very real senario.

The rumor on Ray is that he wants a $20 mil signing bonus...the Ravens are offering $15-17.

It looks like the Ravens will part ways with CMac saving $8 mil. It's tight, but the funds are there to keep most of these players (but not all).

I don't see a ton of CAP space getting tied up with Leonard, Koch and Landry.

Any and all of these guys may hit the market to find their value and Brown is the one I worry about as far as getting offered crazy money for his position. We've seen it happen before with Pashos and Weaver. Ozzie needs to put the squeeze on Jason...offer him a great "One Time/TODAY" contract with it being withdrawn if Brown goes to market.

Money has to be ear marked for the draft picks...yea....it's tight.

"Who knows if I'll be back..."

    44108778.jpg

Max, agreed. We need to keep Brown - he's THE GLUE to our OL. Without him, we are starting over.

I dont care how well Chester played. He's no Brown. Oz, find to way to lock him up !

  14. Where'd the message go?

Crav, Strange stuff dude but here is my verbage:

In my opinion, its probably time we moved on w/o Ray. Look, I would love to keep this warrior but, as everyone has stated, his best days are clearly behind and we need to go in a newer direction. This team has many rising stars - Flacco, Jason Brown, Suggs, McClain, Leonard, etc.....- and we need to find the resources to sign and keep them for the long haul.

If Ray wants to stay he can. But if he feels compelled by God, Money or other reasons to move on, then by gosh, move on. This team needs to act in a financially prudent way; not like the nuckleheads in DC or Dallas.

This team and Harbs have a mantra in place - its about team and getting better. On the surface, Ray doesnt appear to be part of that program.

Its time to move on, get younger, better and think about a new face/look on the franchise - maybe Joe Flacco. maybe Ed Reed. Either way, I am ready to turn the page and embrace a great team with a very bright future.

    Go RAVENS !!

  15. I was sort've meaning to draw the comparison between Harvin and Holmes in my last post... They're probably about the same size and speed. I don't like calling Harvin a "deep threat", because like holmes, he's so much more than that. Great catching ability, and a playmaker whenever he touches the ball. He's a much better receiver than Ted Ginn, and Miami took him in the top 10. If it wasn't for his injury history, he would be a top 10 guy himself.

I'm excited to take a receiver either way. I just hope we don't wait until the 6th round.

We wont wait until 6th round for WR. I would very surprised if we do anything besides CB-1st round, WR- 2nd round, or vice versa. Those are our most glaring needs and Ozzie will deliver !

    GO RAVENS !

  16. Don't sleep on Steve Breaston. While Larry Fitz is the unbelievable talent, and Boldin is a pro bowler, it's possible to take the two guys out of the game... at least for a while. What happens then? Your #3 receiver goes off, especially when he is a super-fast, agile guy like Breaston. His speed (and quickness) allowed him to get open over and over (the same way Eddie Royal did all year for Denver). Santonio Holmes is another guy who is very fast and knows how to get open.

Flacco can buy time in the pocket, but if he doesn't have an open receiver to throw to, it's all for naught.

And Cleetz, I like Nicks also, but don't sleep on Harvin's ability to get open. That's all he does is get open. You know, when he's healthy. You guys can be the experts on Heyward-Bey, but I've watched every snap of Harvin's career, and the guy is a ridiculous playmaker who plays in a "you'd better get open when the QB is running around" offense. (See: Tim Tebow)

Harvin is a high risk, high reward player.

Before going to Fla, Harvin played 20 minutes from my neighborhood at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach. He was unstoppable in HS but had a history of being dinged up (knee injuries I recall). He's a fast cat and playmaker.

I'd rather have the big possession Boldin type guy and draft him or acquire him via free agency.

  17. Denver, KC, and Oakland should not be a problem with our defense and physical run game.

Neither should Detroit or Green Bay..Palmer is going to be up in the air, I find it hard to believe that 4 months ago he needed Tommy John surgery, now somehow hes miraculously healed. Not buying it, so theres 2 more in the W column. Cleveland is Cleveland, 2 more there. If the Colts lose Harrison, then all of a sudden they have become smaller at the WR spot with Gonzo & Wayne..This could definately be a 13-3, 14-2 season for us.

    13-3 or 14-2, Crav? I surely thought you'd have us at 15-1. :P

  18. While we might need a deep threat, that is not how the Cardinals were effective. The Cards receivers were effective last night by having receivers who could go across the middle on crossing routes and make catches in traffic, then turn up field. The Cards receivers also have a very good awareness on how to get open in zone coverages when the QB is under pressure.

Derrick Mason is a tough receiver who does go over the middle, but he just doesn't have the size and relative aggressiveness of Fitz and Boldin. With that said, Hakeem Nicks sounds like the perfect receiver for us. He is very polished, has soft and extremely strong hands, size, and has a great understanding of route running and how to get open. I would much rather have Nicks than DHB or Harvin.

Dont think we necessarily need a deep threat (while that wouldnt hurt); we need a beast across the middle.

Since the Stealers are our true competitor, its obvious we need a physical guy who can be successful against the Stealers secondary.
