TBird Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Within 3 short months Ozzie has shored up a dire secondary weakness with depthjust adding Arrington, see Arrington thread, and drafting Trey Walker. Walker was projected in the 5th round but Ravens seriously consideredhim in the 3rd round and knew he wouldn't be there for them if they waited longer than the4th so they used a 4th round comp pick on him. He visited a bunch of teams. Walker could be starting one day but for now he is needed backup if injuriesset in again and we still have Melvin who is raw but can growand Will Hill. See link for stats. BTW, Melvin was kicking Brady's ass so badleading by 2 TDs - twice and with NE using illegal footballs and bending therules on obscure plays so much the NFL changed the rules as soon asthe season was over. It took all that cheating on a guy who wasn't evenplaying football 4 weeks before. Ravens won with him playing in Pissburgh. Also, Elam has lost weigth and has no body fat at all and is ready to improvehis game. He knows time is running out. http://www.footballinsiders.com/texas-southern-cb-tray-walker-has-four-visits-with-nfl-teams/ Quote
thundercleetz Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/158585/recapping-rashaan-melvins-rough-game Melvin had a really rough game against the Pats. Granted it's hard to be tough on a guy who was an undrafted practice squad player, but make no doubt Brady exploited Melvin as the weak link in our secondary. As far as signing Arrington and how that affects Tray Walker: I think they will play two different roles for us. Arrington is going to play the majority of snaps for us as a nickelback. His strengths are covering the slot guy, or blitzing from the edge. Walker's going to make or break his NFL career on how efficient he is pressing receivers. If he has a strong camp, he will get time right away on the outside on the other side of Smith. Webb or Arrington don't have the ability to press receivers like Walker has, so if Walker can play, Webb and Arrington will play inside, with Walker and Smith on the outside giving us plenty of different blitzing options. On paper it's a good group with a diverse skill set. Quote
TBird Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 Great post and points. Yea, on paper. They had no secondaryprobs this time last year on paper-lol. By week 5 Jimmy andWebbie were gone and so was the SB. Billick always said it takesa lot of luck just to get into the SB. Melvin was picked on for sure by the best QB but my point was he wasdoing fine, leading by 2 Tds - twice with doctored up balls, trickplays and obscure formations with the bending of the rules tobeat him. Brady's QB rating was 113 vs Elam alone not to mention his missedtackles and they just won by a couple of points. Like Webbie said,we were doing something right for them to use all that trickeryand cheating to beat us. Quote
oldno82 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 If the secondary we have right now remained mostly healthy for the whole season I'd be happy. It would still be nice to add another FA or cut CB even if they're just average. Quote
TBird Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 Maybe after the 1 June cuts for cap savings. Mightget one there. Quote
TBird Posted June 13, 2015 Author Posted June 13, 2015 This thread was started before the OTAs where Walker has been abused repeatidlyby Perriman for long bombs and on shorter routes. He just runs by him and the entiredefense at times but always by Walker. In all fairness Perriman is one of the fastest men in the country and Walker will notbe a starter but I'm wondering now if he isn't another Chykie Brown. Gotta give him time but I'm not so sure about him. Quote
oldno82 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 That's where having one more veteran CB would come in helpful. Quote

TBird Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 I love this signing last year. He wasn't even playing football when Ozzie signed him.We won with him in Pissburgh and he's looking like a Corey Graham then Brady rapedhim in NE but it took the best QB with a trick play, the bending of the rules on some strangeformations and some deflated footballs to beat him. Theres a lot of upside to this guy. Quote
