What that article lacked were the actual numbers... Flacco overthrows the deep ball plenty. It's annoying as hell for sure. But he also throws it significantly more than most other QBs, I think. It's the only route Smith really runs.

 

3rd and 2? Let's throw it 20, 30, 40 yards downfield.

 

So his percentage on those is just below average, but the number of misses is way above average... that means his number of throws deep is way above average. Because we don't thrown anything 5-15 yards in midfield.
