Yep. I have no issue with a properly written stand your ground statute. Say I am down on Calvert St down in the city. A guy steps out of an alley and attacks me. I have never been a fast guy and knowing that I should not have to turn my back on him to run away. I could be attacked from behind. Now if armed I could pull a weapon. I would back away and if he still moved forward to attack I would fire. I will not give an attacker my back. Obviously this would be if MD had carry permits and a stand your ground law.

In the past the burden of proof for self defense was on the defendant. I think that is how it should be.

Dee is absolutely correct in what I am saying. Say Zimmerman had been on lets say perscription drugs. That could have been neglegence. SOP is to get all the background on a shooter and they did not.

I am for responsible gun ownership. I think people should be able to own AR's or onything else that can be used by the police. People don't need anti personel or nukes. I think realistic background checks should be done. I would also have every weapon sold have 1 spent round and casing to hold as a sort of finger print for that gun in case it is used in a crime. I have no issue with a database of who owns what. All of that said the govt can't be allowed to roll up and take peoples guns like the guy from bmore county where the illegally comfiscated them or what the NJ authorities tried to do with a family up there to demand to see all their guns. I do think the NRA has become dangerous. They say that people on the terrorist watch list should be allowed to own. They don't want any backgrounds because they want nuts to buy weapons and use them to scare others to buy them too. They don't work for their members. They work for the manufacturers.

What that verdict says is that children, women, and other potential victims should not flee or fight back against pedophiles, stalkers or rapists. People have always said to fight back against predators but now if you do they could be hurt and have to defend themselves.
