Head Coach John Harbaugh has preached it since he took over. The starters are going to be the best players. It doesn’t matter if you’re a top pick or an undrafted rookie free agent. Harbaugh raised that philosophy again in training camp when discussing the competition at outside linebacker opposite Paul Kruger. The starting job is not automatically Courtney Upshaw’s.

Here’s one training camp battle that wasn’t too hot at the start: Nose tackle Terrence Cody vs. veteran Ma’ake Kemoeatu. But after another strong practice at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Sunday – in which Kemoeatu rotated in with the first-team defense – it appears closer than expected.

Expected to miss the rest of the preseason due to sprained right shoulder, tight end is itching to return sooner rather than laterA lot of NFL players view training camp and the preseason as a necessary evil and welcome the beginning of the regular season. Since he arrived in Baltimore, Deonte Thompson has created a buzz. The undrafted rookie wide receiver earned a spot on the roster during an open trying at rookie minicamp in May and he was then a standout at Organized Team Activities and full minicamp.
