Ray Rice says he feels like he’s stuck in another lockout. The Ravens’ franchise running back has sat out voluntary offseason workouts as he awaits a long-term contract. He’s been working out on his own, but it’s not the same as doing it with teammates in Owings Mills, Md.

Often times early in organized team activities (OTAs) and camps, it takes the offense a while to find its legs. There’s timing that needs to be established, especially between a quarterback and his targets.

Michael McAdoo reportedly suffered a torn Achilles tendon during organized team activities on Thursday, according to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times.

Ocean City was painted purple and black on Friday, as the Ravens continued their inaugural weekend Beach Bash.

First, Sergio Kindle had to overcome a head fracture. That’s done. Next up was getting his body back in football shape. Done. By the end of last year, Kindle said his biggest remaining hurdle was learning the Ravens’ complex defensive scheme. Now he believes he finally has it.

Besides seeing limited action in a pair of preseason games last summer, Michael McAdoo hasn’t played a meaningful game in nearly three years. After going undrafted in the 2011 supplemental draft, he was signed by the Ravens as a rookie free agent, but the outside linebacker spent the season on injured reserve. And in two seasons at North Carolina before the NCAA suspended him, McAdoo made just 29 tackles and three sacks.

With so much time away from the game, Michael McAdoo wasn’t sure what to expect from himself. Turns out, he feels he’s off to a good start.

Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron sees Michael Oher growing into something more so far this offseason. “I think he is really starting to mature into a great player,†Cameron said after Wednesday’s OTA practice.

Ramon Harewood has been with the Ravens for two seasons, but the 6-foot-6 offensive tackle has yet to play a single snap in a game that counted in the standings. He has spent the past two seasons on the injured reserve -- he had knee surgery in 2010 then an ankle injury in 2011 -- and will try to lock down a roster spot this summer.

Jacoby Jones looks to be the Ravens’ first option at punt returner and kick returner heading into 2012. Even though Jones didn’t return kickoffs last year with the Houston Texans, Special Teams Coordinator Jerry Rosburg confirmed he is working at both positions.

The former Poly and Maryland player says he has gotten "bigger and stronger and faster"The continued development of second-year wide receiver Torrey Smith has been evident at the team’s two organized team activities that were open to media. Tandon Doss, who has buffed up a bit, has also caught my eye. And then there’s LaQuan Williams, now in his second NFL season, who continues to exceed expectations.

The Ravens have a tight competition for the starting left guard job, which isn’t expected to end any time soon. Three players are vying for the spot and nobody appears to have set themselves apart yet.

The Ravens special-teams unit struggled at times last year, and fixing those mishaps has been a clear priority this offseason. They brought in a handful of proven veterans and the coaching staff has already seen the benefit of them leading the pack.

I feel like I have to preface every one of these post-OTA observation blogs by offering the reminder that drawing any conclusions from these workouts would be foolish on my part. Still, some players clearly make a bigger impression than others and I can say without hesitation that nobody stood out more in yesterday’s session than second-year wide receiver LaQuan Williams . First of all, conditioning was not the issue for him, but Williams looks even leaner and much more explosive than he did during his rookie season. And during drills, Williams showed great speed and tremendous hands, even making a one-handed catch in traffic at one point on a Joe Flacco pass. Williams also beat Lardarius Webb on a couple of occasions along the sideline. With 12 receivers on the Ravens’ roster and the addition of several accomplished special teams players, Williams likely faces another uphill battle to make the team. But something tells me that’s just the way he wants it and he’s more than up for the challenge.

Terrell Suggs' iinjury isn’t throwing Pees off his tracks. The Ravens defense has no choice but to move on, and Pees is making minor tweaks to fit his Suggs-less personnel for however long the reigning Defensive Player of the Year is out. He’s still installing the same overall defense, and will be gauging in OTAs who is best prepared to take over.

The Ravens made their first official move to give veteran kicker Billy Cundiff some competition when they signed rookie Justin Tucker Tuesday. But on Wednesday, Head Coach John Harbaugh made it clear that Cundiff is still the frontrunner to be the starting kicker.

The Ravens just wrapped up their fifth day of organized training activities (OTAs), and the two-hour practice was open to the media. Here are some of the highlights and observations from Wednesday’s open practice.

The Ravens scored two touchdowns or less three times, all resulting in losses against Tennessee, Jacksonville and San Diego. It was largely held in check in a loss in Seattle too. Those blips are what Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron says need to be eliminated for the unit to take the next step in 2012.

Despite offseason hip surgery, Williams has been present for both weeks of OTAsRavens cornerback Cary Williams attended Wednesday’s organized team activity, marking the second straight week he has been on hand for the voluntary workouts. His presence was notable because he is recovering from offseason hip surgery and also because of his clouded contract situation.

Another Ravens organized team activity just came to an end, and coach John Harbaugh , along with the team's coordinators, met the media following it. We'll have plenty of coverage on our site later but here are a few notes to tide you over until then:

Some surprises among missing Ravens, but there could be explanation laterThere was a much lighter turnout at today's Ravens voluntary OTA (organized team activity) than a week ago. By my count, 19 of 90 players on the roster are absent today.

Every season, there’s a player who rises from having nearly no role to one of prominence. Last year, tight end Dennis Pitta went from having one catch in his rookie season to 40 catches for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Nose tackle Terrence Cody went from one start and 13 tackles to 16 starts and 34 tackles. The process of taking that step into the limelight begins now, during the summer OTAs and camps.

After assuming the reins of the annual softball game that had been run by left guard Ben Grubbs (who is now playing for the New Orleans Saints ), Ravens cornerback Lardarius Webb was a little curious about Sunday's turnout at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.
