varaven45 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Man, who opened and relieved today for Cubs; Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson ? Don't recall seeing that from Arrieta and Strop while in an Os uniform. I guess paybacks are hell and when you are on last place team, you can let it all hang out eh ! The start of this series is beginning to feel like last weekend in Cleveland. Let's get our act together guys
dc. Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Both had potential. Strop was lights out for his first full season of play. Arrietta is playing way over his head this year but maybe he's just an nl guy.
thundercleetz Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogpost?blogname=chicagocubs&id=26797&city=chicago&src=desktop&rand=ref~%7B%22ref%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F%22%7DBut that wasn't always the case. He couldn't command his stuff in Baltimore, leading to a career-high five walks per nine innings pitched last season. The further he gets from the trade the less Arrieta likes to talk about his struggles in Baltimore where he and former pitching coach Rick Adair didn't see eye-to-eye. It wasn't a hostile relationship, but it didn't bring out the best in Arrieta on the mound. "There were some things there that inhibited my ability to take that next step," Arrieta said last year. "There were things going on there that kind of restricted me a little bit." Which means the change of scenery may have been the best thing for him.
varaven45 Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Yep. It's another lackluster weekend in the Midwest; time to get the heck out if dodge and come back home. Damn ugly series; damn ugly
ForceEight Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 It's nice to be able to afford a weekend series like this. How often does a series loss not really hurt your feelings in late August?
varaven45 Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Except for when you lose to the bottom feeding Cubs with 1 count it - 1 hit - today. That's about the most pathetic, listless effort I've seen all year.
cravnravn Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Boy that was igly, 4 runs in 3 games, was that our first visit ever to wrigley?
varaven45 Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 IDK but hopefully our last. Hopefully, Buck and Co put this hangover series behind us, return to Baltimore, and resume playing the game of baseball.
varaven45 Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 Okay so was the meltdown during the Cubs series an aberration or a harbinger of things to come ? I guess we'll find out tonight eh .
thundercleetz Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Most depressing series of the year. We lose Manny for the season and our former busts Arrieta, Strop and Wada burn us. Really depressing.
varaven45 Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 Cleetz, We will soon find out about the true character of this team. I suppose you could view tonight's opener vs. Tampa as a rite of passage.
cravnravn Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Cleetz, We will soon find out about the true character of this team. I suppose you could view tonight's opener vs. Tampa as a rite of passage. Well if last night was an indicator. We will be just fine
varaven45 Posted August 26, 2014 Author Posted August 26, 2014 That was a nice rebound and the bats really came around eh ? Just one night though . Runs will be at a premium tonight vs Cobb. He's in a groove right now. Chen must be on tonight to keep us in the game.
