cravnravn Posted September 2, 2010 Share Posted September 2, 2010 NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard is responding to a rig explosion and fire south of Grand Isle. According to the Coast Guard, it happened 80 miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana. WWL-TV says it is offshore, west of Lafayette and about 90 miles south of Vermilion Bay. Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel says the blast was reported by a commercial helicopter company about 9:30 a.m. CDT Thursday. The Coast Guard says that 13 people were on the rig and that all have been accounted for at this time.
