Terp Twins Transferring

Maryland sophomore defensive backs Elijah and Elisha Daniels are transferring schools, they announced Tuesday.

The twins were part of DJ Durkin’s first recruiting class in 2016. Ranked as three-star prospects, they combined to play in just seven games this season, with Elisha only appearing once, against Towson. Elijah played in the Terps first five games, but missed the next four before playing in a reserve role against Michigan State with starting safety Josh Woods out. Neither played in the regular season finale against Penn State.

Both probably entered Year Two with high aspirations. Elijah appeared in seven games as a freshman and made his first collegiate start against Ohio State. Elisha played in six games his first season and recorded two tackles against the Buckeyes in his brother’s first start. They entered the 2017 season listed as backups safety and nickel respectively.

The Terps lose Woods and backup Denzel Conyers next year, but are slated to bring back seven players in the secondary with starting experience, including Darnell Savage, J.C. Jackson, Antoine Brooks, Tino Ellis, Antwaine Richardson, Qwuantrezz Knight and RaVon Davis. Florida State transfer Marcus Lewis will also be eligible for the 2018 season along with 2017 four-star recruit Deon Jones, who redshirted this season after missing his final year of high school with a knee injury.

The Daniels twins are the second and third members of Durkin’s first class to transfer. Fellow Floridian LaDerrien Wilson left over the summer.

The Durkin experiment looks like it is a failure.
