  1. The Ravens are middle teir. they have major issues. They should have made the Browns quit by halftime.

LOL they are 3-1 you jackass, outside of Houston no other team in the AFC is wowing anyone. The Ravens are still the best team in the AFC North since the Bengals defense is worst than ours and the Steelers gave up 34 pts and lost to Oakland of all teams. I guess you can have sex with your boyfriend Skip Bayless and discuss how bad the Ravens are. I want to beat the hell out of you so bad.

  2. PLEASE!

    PLEASE DON'T HIT ME!!!! :bleh:

I stand by my "borderline look".

Here's what I mean by borderline: I did not say they are the same as the '96/'97 Ravens.

It has a good side. Just like the '96 Ravens, the 2012 unit is scoring at will...in fact better than "96 with 32.7 points per game vs 27.7. That's really friggn'n good!

So...the offense has the good look like '96 as far as scoring (and yards). It does not have the bad turnover/choke look.

The 2012 D is giving up the same yards.

It's the points surrendered that bothers me. 22.3ppg vs 27.7 for the '96 unit. That looks Borderline to me....as in "They don't have much farther to go to be like the '96/'97 unit D."

When was the last time you saw a Ravens defense give up that many points on average?

    Yea...back in the 90's.

The yards surrendered is huge (401 per game average). They are ranked 27th again this week...28th against the pass.

I'm stating the obvious here: If they don't tighten up the pass defense, if they can't find a way to generate QB pressure, then....well it's going to be a long season. Cassell, Rivers, the Mannings, Romo, Rthsslxsbrrgrrr,...even RG3 will have fun days sitting in the pocket picking the D apart.

The saving grace that I see is Webb, Reed and Pollard. They won't let the pass defense look as horrid as the '96 and '97 teams. They'll prevent teams from racking up the points.

Williams is as bad as Jenkins. I was at the game and saw him clear as day every snap. I don't know what happened to him between last year and this year but the Dude is really bad. Maybe it is the loss ofg Suggs. With no pressure these corners can't get the job done. The two work hand in hand so maybe all the blame shouldn't come Williams way.

I agree....Flacco won't turn Vinny and there is also Ray Rice to provide a very effective difference between now and then.

I don't mean for this thread and stats to be a dower. I just had a "Day-Jaahh-Vooo" feeling at the game Sunday night even though I kept posting "Don't worry. The Ravens are going to win" during the game.

And....Sunday night was the second most fun game I've been at...next to the 2000 win over the Jags at #1.

And...I do belive the D will tighten up and get better....but they better hurry after their "Get Healthy" game against the Brownies Thursday night because...here comes Houston.

I should hit you for including Matt freakin Cassell as a QB we should be scared of. Second of all we are 3 freakin games into the season, I'll go with what Ray said and see where the defense is at the end of the season. If this team plays great defense at the right time and win a Superbowl just like the Giants did last year then why should defensive rankings matter. You play to win games and championships not satisfy the fantasy needs of fickle fans.

  3. Joe is not Vinnie.

But I am reminded of Ozzie's comments about the 96-97 team to the effect that the 'Defense couldn't stop water'.

They couldn't stop New England's passing at all. There is zero pass rush. Too much is being asked of the secondary. We've GOT to put pressure on the quarterback. It was only when New England tried to take time off the clock in the last quarter that the defense was able to make a stand---sort of.

Not impressed with Dean Pees so far but I was encouraged how he brought the house on D the last time New England was in our red zone. We're going to need more of that.

As of right now, Atlanta and Houston are the cream of the NFL.

Those 96/97 defenses didn't have a winning mentality, they didn't know what consistent winning felt like. These Ravens despite their struggles on defense know when to man up and get it done in the clutch. Reed, RayLew, Webb and others can be clutch in critical moments in games. Guys like Deron Jenkins choked on a regular basis and as you said by quoting Ozzie couldn't stop water. This defense hasn't lost it's leadership or the will to win.

  4. The difference. This defense has plenty of playmakers despite it's deficiencies. They'll come through when they're needed.

People like Vmax believe that just because the Orioles are good again then the Ravens will turn bad. They won't allow themselves to believe that Baltimore could actually have to good professional sports teams, according to them only one can be good. Vmax seems to forget that while Ray Lewis is older physically he's much much wiser mentally than he was back then. There was no Ed Reed on those defenses. This defense despite it's struggles is still clutch and will not break like the 96/97 Ravens D's did. Vinny T was pretty much a stat piling loser for most of his career with his career year in 1998 with the Jets being the only exception. Don't even get me started with Bam Morris.

  5. Remember '96 and '97?

Vinnie and the offense were rolling up and down the field scoring points.

The defense was getting toasted giving up just as many and more.

Remember those 4th quarter meltdowns...the costly interceptions and then the secondary getting beat bad.

Well...this 2012 Ravens team better study their history because there are awfully close to that senario again.

All it will take is for Flacco to start doing Vinnie impersonations and it looks like Williams and Smith already have the Jenkins look.

Sunday night the defense made the stops that they had to in the 4th quarter and Joe and the offense made the plays for the win.

How close are they to morhing into the '96' and '97 Ravens?

They have a ton of excellent QB's to face this season.

Flacco is more clutch than Vinny was, Deron Jenkins was horribly bad. This team is more battle tested due to our runs to the playoffs, those teams didn't know what winning felt like. These Ravens despite their struggles on defense know what winning feels like, that is very very important. Don't you dare compare this team with those sorry Raven teams, I should cuss you out and beat the hell out of you for even thinking that. I'm sorry Vmax for going off on you like that but I hate that comparison.

  6.

First i dont care if the bucs have a winning season this year the owner is showing he actually cares and his plan is working. When he took over he said be patient he was building up the minors then the pirates so they stay good. The buccos have the deepest and most exspensive farm system and the players are starting to show up. So if i have to wait another year i have to wait another year. With the prospect the bucos have and refuse to get rid of they will be good for many years to come. I love that appeal didnt sign this year as the pirates now own the number 9 pick as well in next years draft.build from within like the steelers and pens do though the pens will make free agency moves their core is crosby malkin flower and letang all drafted by the pens. now onto you crave yes in week two the ravens hold the tie breaker after week three it will be a different story when brady puts up yet another 500 yards on the ravens defense or laxk there of i should say. P.S. Im happy to see the board back up and running. Also flaccoforever this is a football topic not a baseball topic and since all my post that are off topic get removed or moved i was trying to stay on topic

So are you going to go in hiding this week since your Steelers choked against the sorry Raiders LOL. Choking seems to be a theme in Pittsburgh these days LOL.

  7. and what teams fear the ravens 27th ranked defense. and crave the last time the ravens came to pgh they got the help from the refs. thats why i find it funny you cry ove an actual flag being thrown against jones

Yet again you ignore the shot I took against your Pirates, gearing up for another losing

season. Your precious Steelers will be exposed by a real team, if Rex had kept Tebow in

the game he would have gutted you like he did in January.

  8. Blah blah blah the ravens arent sweeping anyone this year. For once yinz get to see what it is like to play all the other number ones. Vick picked you apart imagine what brady is going to do. Big ben is going to shred that pass defense and theres not much they can do about it. Vick had one wr and a te the steelers have 4 wrs and a te. I hope ray ray like being on the field all game long because he will be. The steelers dominate TOP

LOL you are so funny, nobody is afraid of the Steelers. I find it funny that you ignore the shot I took at the Pirates, humbled much? LOL Flacco and Torrey Smith will make Ike look foolish and Troy will be wishing Todd Heap was still a Raven after Pitta and Dickson make him look silly again LOL.

  9. Yeah your right i dont always wear my steelers hat and i dont have the steelers pirates and pens plastered all over my car or anything i dont own 4 real deal authentics including this years throwbacks that get worn every chance i get. You forget im the one who posted not to worry when yinz lost to the seahawks last year. Im a true fan and kinda go into a cacoon when the steelers lose. Born and raised in western pa and very proud of it. I wasnt even going to post anything until i seen the thread of yinz crushing the steelers for losing week one. Like i have said many times i check in here a lot but i dont post unless i have something to say. I was here more this off season then you were.

How are those Pirates doing again? Oh that's right they are choking and staring another losing season in the face LOL. My Orioles swept your Pirates and the Ravens will sweep the Steelers again. We taken over Pittsburgh LOL.

  10. I wish we were playing the Steelers today instead of the Eagles. Flacco knows how to finish a 2 minute drill against the Steelers.

Better yet I wish Tebow would have started for the Jets and Ike Taylor would have got embarrassed by another big Georgia Tech WR in Stephen Hill LOL.

  11. Um the steelers have more afcn titles then the rest of the division combined so if you think im going to bow down because you won one you are nuts. Step up to the big boy table three super bowl appearences since the ravens have been to one. Beat us in the playoffs and come talk to me something no team from baltimore has ever done go three and zero in one year against us and come talk to me. Yinz jag offs just dont stack up. Come on lets hear how you swept the division and the steelers you know the same thing the bungals did once.

What have the Steelers done lately? Oh that's right they got schooled by a fullback playing QB in the playoffs last January. We were waiting for you guys in the playoffs but that fullback named Tebow got in the way. It would have been nice if your Steelers had actually taken him seriously but typical Steeler envy got in the way LOL. We're not afraid of you guys, we'll beat you down again this year. LOL look at you celebrating a win over the Jets, beat a real team and then you can brag.

  12. And the steelers didnt have troy harrison or mendy face it the steelers and ben can throw it all over the yard and go no huddle and notmget confused andthe ravens cant cover. The eagles struggled to beat the browns pretty much didnt have their best wr and still threw it all over you a lose is a lose.

Go ahead and enjoy it now, we'll kick your ass later this year. We're still the best team in the North, your precious Steelers still have to take the division from us. Enjoy your little win over the sorry Jets. By the way Ben threw for good yardage against us last year and we still beat the Steelers twice so I wouldn't gloat about that too much. How did your defense look against a real QB with real weapons last week? Yeah that's what I thought, this is a marathon not a sprint. I would keep my mouth shut if I were you, beat the Ravens first and then you can talk.

  13. BACK IN FIRST AND WILL BE THERE THE REST OF THE WAY. the ravens cant cover and the steelers can light it up passing it spells trouble for yinz

Yes beating the Jets without Keller or Revis makes them bigtime, Oooh I'm scared of you guys, NOT. Technically we're still in first since our loss was a non conference lost, you still lost to Denver which is a conference loss. Go and gloat about beating sorry Sanchez without his security blanket, lets see what you do from here on out. You still have to beat and take the division from us, last time I checked we are still the team to beat in the North.

  14. I was reading a Bengals fan forum after the game. Talk about hilarious. Nearly all of them say Ginger Dalton is a better QB, and if he isn't now he will be later for sure. It cracks me up because I remember reading about how great Carson Palmer was for so many years on their forums. They were talking about how many Super Bowls they would win with Palmer!

One of them said Flacco can't handle the pressure. Laughable. He looked really worn down by the pressure when he stomped the Steelers at Heinz Field last year with an epic 2 min drive. Or when he threw the game winning pass to Lee Evans in the AFC Championship game. Sorry to state the obvious - but Bengal fans are idiots.

Don't worry about Bengal fans RD they get overly cocky every year they come off a playoff performance (despite going one and done again LOL). They thought they were the real deal prior 2010 after they swept the division in 2009, how did 2010 work out for them? 4-12 Flacco sure as hell handled the pressure on Monday night, he was on the money when the Bengals defense pressured him. I don't know what game they were watching but our QB outplayed their redheaded QB by a mile. They don't realize that they have to actually make the playoffs in back to back years and win a playoff game before they start hyping up the Superbowl talk. They had a golden opportunity on Monday Night to make a statement especially when they got within 4 early in the 3rd quarter, they choked like the scared cats that they are LOL. Another thing working against them, Skip Bayless a.k.a Mr. Jinx has them in the playoffs over us.

  15. Max, what is going on here?????

The Eagles could barely match-up with the Browns and now we need to be scared of em?????

This Eagles team is clearly in trouble. We are going to hand their asses to them. The Giants and Cowboys......that's another story.

Yager you might be right about the Cowboys, according to Skip Bayless we're not even in their league (sarcasm). Seriously I'm not scared of the Eagles, Cowboys, or Giants. The 2008 Ravens went 3-1 against the big bad NFC East and the 2012 version won't back down either. The NFC East is tough but they have to face the Ravens too.

  16. Kevin Byrne is trying to help us get it through our thick skulls that "We are Good!"

    [/b]

    Bengals_Ravens_Football_113792_team.jpg

Well according to Skip Bayless we have no chance of making the playoffs and Joe Fluko (his nickname for Joe) is one of the worst QBs in the league. It's very refreshing to hear from guys who were actually NFL executives analyze our team instead of jerks like Bayless who think they know everything.

  17. That proves nothing about what Cam is doing.

He's not going anywhere anyway so what does it matter, get it together Skip Bayless. I'm calling you that from here on out, it would be disrespectful to Mike Preston to name you after him.

  18. This seems rather ridiculous this late in the game. Maybe the coaching staff is seeing something that we're not. Does Cinci have some really fast rush ends? That's the only thing that I could think of that would bring this on. Perhaps there's a matchup situation that doesn't favor McKinnie????

Yes the Bengals have speed at defensive end, the Ravens are running an uptempo no huddle offense (they aren't playing around). Oher and K.O. at the tackle positions allows them to run it full throttle, McKinnie at this stage doesn't quite allow them to do that. You guys have to stop thinking about what Oher did at LT in 2010, this is not your regular Ravens offense they are running. Preseason was a taste of what they are planning to do, McKinnie can handle the preseason no huddle tempo but clearly they don't think he can handle what will come in the regular season. Hopefully after Monday night you guys will have one of those "I see what they are doing now" moments and stop worrying so much.
