  1. Not sure if you're serious there or its your dry wit, Spen. Don't mind either way.

But I never really cared nor paid attention to HFCS versus Sugar until a parent of one of my swimmers, who is a doctor and researcher, started telling me all the differences and this and that. And I started to really figure out the difference. It's digested in your livers, not your intestines, and strains your body, etc etc.

And what truly pisses me off is that government subsidies to the corn industry are the only reason we have HFCS. The subsidies are so ridiculously high that there was so much excess corn, they decided to figure out a way to make it used more.... just to pad the farmers pockets anyway. Ditch the subsidies, give me sugar! Especially now that ethanol products are making corn even MORE valuable to produce, which is creating somewhat of a shortage of wheat products (which is why your bagels and bread are costing more - wheat producers are making corn).

No, I am dead serious in my dislike of it. I read up on it years ago and it pissed me off. I have since read at least one article pondering a correlation between HFCS and the rising weight of Americans.

I like Iced Tea but only drink my own. There is no reason for a 16 ounce bottle to have 200 calories. If it was non sweetened and I added my own sugar it would be 30 to 45 calories. ( I think each sugar pack is 15 calories)

I have noticed a bit of a backlash beginning against HFCS. Numerous store products proclaim they are HFCS Free. Its a start.

It's always his dry wit. ALWAYS.

Not this time! I was on my way to bed when I posted that and was tired or I would have posted more then.

  2. I dont think Letterman is in on it but I too think its a Kaufmanesque joke....though I dont think anyone is going to find it funny in the long run.

Joaquin is no Andy Kaufman. And thats both good and bad.

  3. I am not even convinced that kids are more irresponsible or poorly behaved today than they have been before. Different kinds of trouble perhaps, but the kids (an adults) in previous generations misbehaved too. Some of the stories told to me by my fathers and uncles of their adolescence lead me to believe that my generation, at least people I knew, did not get into as much trouble as they did.

Another big difference is that if people at a Colts game 40 years ago drank their case of beer and caused trouble or got in a drunken fight (and it did happen) there were not cameras all over the placed to record it for all to see.

Its like how kids cannot do anything nowadays because everyone is convinced how much more dangerous the world is for them now but by most studies crimes against children has stayed steady or gone down a bit in the last 40 years. The difference is that if a kid (well a white kid) is missing in Denver with all of the cable news channels and general tabloidy new sources we have it will be a big story all across the country.

I think the access to news (and video) from across the country often creates the illusion that crime, behavior and people in general are worse now than they had been in years past.

And I dont think an normal healthy person's behavior is affected by song lyrics or video games.

  4. Or the beautiful innocence of the 1967 Doors song "The End".

I hope it was obvious I was joking about the music lyrics, though I'll never believe them when they say "Yummy" is not about oral sex.

Every generation blames the increase in social problems, whether a real increase or just seemingly one, on the on the music and the entertainment of the generations after it.

The thing is who wants to go into a 45 min beer line every half hour?

I dont know, possibly the same people who will wait an hour for a Port-O-Pot? If they really want to cash in, maybe they will have a lot of vendors.

  5. Again I comment on the very reasonable beer pricing. $3.50 for a 16 ounce beer. People can still get bombed if they want for a reasonable price. Now if people still get out of control this year I am sure the prices will skyrocket next year.

Its the truth, look at the lyrics from the 70's to when the kids today and the lyrics of today..And for every decent rapper (Will Smith) I can pull you 50 negative starting with 50 cent

Songs and lyrics were much more innocent then. Harmless innocent songs like:

    Yummy, Yummy, Yummy.

I got love in my tummy,

And I feel like a-lovin you:

Love, you're such a sweet thing,

    Good enough to eat thing

    And that's just a-what I'm gonna do.

Nowadays there are songs about oral sex and stuff.

  6. I did a little more reading/research on this...

Apparently the price is .002 DOLLARS. That is what is written. That is what is advertised.

The problem seems to have stemmed from a few representatives who have made the mistake of saying it the wrong way.

So the guy who's bitching was told the wrong price originally on the phone, but his paperwork and bills should all say and advertise the correct price.

Again. Hilarious. And the frustration is understandable. And I'd fight to get what I was TOLD over what was written, as well. But at the same time... just freaking be aware yourself.

I was wondering about that. I deal with telephone tariffs all day long and most cost per use items are per access minute. I don't deal with many Canadian companies so I didn't know if they were different.

  7. Nor do I. It doesnt bother me either way, I have never been. I can see those that usually go being angry its going to cost more. Hopefully different places still have bus trips in and out.

It also doesnt bother me too much because most sporting events I know of you can't bring your own drinks too.

I know people like Cravn (I think I remember his telling of going to see a baseball game with Edgar Allen Poe a long time ago) can remember when you could bring your own alcohol into events, but its been long gone.

ZZ Topp will be playing, and no beer..LOL

People can still drink there, in fact $3.50 for a 16 ounce beer is a very fair price for an event.

  8. My favorite post from the facebook account "WTF? whats the point if everyone isnt completely shitfaced?"...

Ummm, there is a major horse race that day.

Im sure this was done partially at least for cash to be made from their alcohol sales. Who knows, maybe the infield will be populated by people who are there for the horse races next year.

If the other two races do not have the same type of infield party as Preakness does I can certainly see why they wanted to change this one. Every year someone or many people do something to make themselves and the event look stupid.

  9. And Spen is right - if your TV is digital, you can still get the signal via the airwaves... a digital, not HD, signal.

You can get an HD signal too. We had a thread on here a while back about it, Revo (I think) and I both tried it. They advertise that you need an HD antenna to get over the air HD, but you dont. I am sure its a lot better to have a mounted HD antenna but I could pull in a few of the stations. I was messing around when I got a new TV about a year ago.

  10. Wanted? Not quite. Stay out? I'd love to. Never have to deal with the garbage associated with it again? My dream.

    But should it be?

Should it be? Well I was just stating that speeding is widely accepted and normal. As for should it be that's an opinion question, I can see some instances where I think the speed limits are too strict or low. I assume you are looking for the answer that speeding shouldn't be normal or accepted because its breaking the law. Sorry.

I do think most driving infractions are more serious than smoking pot.
